The film starts off with the protagonist of Howl’s Moving Castle, Sophie, a timid and unsure 18-year-old girl who works in her late father's hat shop. She has a chance encounter with the mysterious wizard Howl Pendragon, who rescues her from some menacing soldiers. However, by doing so she is then visited by the Witch of the Waste who puts a curse on her, transforming her into a 90-year old woman. Unable to tell anyone of the curse, she sets off on her journey to the Waste, to beg Howl to lift the curse. On the way she meets a magically animated scarecrow whom she names Turnip Head. Together they find Howl's moving castle.
Howl (voiced by Christian Bale, hubba hubba) and Sophie, the two main characters in the film
(old Sophie)
these are some other dudes in the movie, the scarecrow, known as turnip head is pretty awesome
i love Calcipher, the little fire demon
it is also a book! i just read the book last night
it was pretty awesome, really reads like a fairy tale, and has a totally different mood and story than the film, while still seeming to movie in the same general direction, its not very long, and i think it was rather entertaining.
the first time i saw Howl's moving castle, i caught it midway through the film. i was so confused.
i got to see it again later from the start. that didn't help.
it's an amazing film all the same, Miyazaki's stuff is always good.
The same thing happened to me with Spirited Away
I mean I got the basic premise of the film, but then something new would happen (people were pigs I guess, then they weren't, and someone turned into a dragon and was bad at first but then fought something else I guess) and I would be all 'wat'
the book really was fantastic, an excellent children's book. i read it all last night and really enjoyed it. it was interesting and fun to see more development into the characters, and to see exactly how they were changed for the movie. Such as Michael, he is a completely different character, other than being howl's apprentice
i actually haven't seen the cat returns, i have just always seen it lumped in with all the others
i own:
My neighbor totoro
kiki's delivery service
castle in the sky
spirited away
princess mononoke
howl's moving castle
Nausicaa of the valley of the wind
i need to pick up porco rossu, and i have been meaning to see the cat returns

I've also never seen The Cat Returns - that, Pom Poko, and Only Yesterday are the Ghibli movies I haven't seen, and I still need to buy Grave of the Fireflies on dvd.
I love Miyazaki films. The first one I saw was Mononoke. I loved Howl's Movind Castle. Spirited Away was good so I don't know why everybody seems to hate it.
The movie is so good because you're cheering Totoro and Satsuki on and everything but it's not like there's really a bad guy or any real danger, it's just because Totoro is great.
belruel i am issuing you a ticket for an excessive silliness violation

some people like to hate on films that don't straight up tell you what's going on; i simply adore spirited away, its my second favorite miyazaki film
I always adored Spirited Away and I didn't understand why people didn't like it. It was cute and had good animation.
I've never seen My Neighbor Totoro, should I netflix it?
I loved Totoro.
me too, it is a cute heartwarming movie that kind of gently moves forward, good for a nice relaxing night in with some snacks and maybe someone to cuddle with

I hate it because of the scene where No-face starts eating everything
I hate it more than I did than The Witches when I was 7
I almost managed to watch all of Princess Mononoke once, but it was Christmas and my parents were around and damn that's a long movie.
Absolutely love Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away, they're so full of life!
it would have really sucked if i hadn't seen anything leading up to it
so go watch it from the beginning koshian

i saw the first 10 minutes of kiki's at like 3 am one time
all i remember is an old lady panty shot of the 8 year old main character

Also it is the wrong Miyazaki (unless you meant next Studio Ghibli movie and not next Miyazaki movie).
Um...
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Laputaa
My Neighbour Totoro
and Porco Rosso
I think those were the major Miyazaki ones
the story isn't that hard to understand, maybe you're just a big ole piece of dumb
kiki's delivery service
the cat returns
kiki's delivery service is so damn cute
If faith is just a silent tribute, mine is just a desperate act.

The Cat Returns was a different guy.
Laputaa is Castle in the Sky
I forgot about Kiki though, I loved that.
And is the Cat Returns a full movie or just a short?
