I guess it could be fun, but the art design is just deplorable. It actually could have been interesting to see an updated 80s horror vibe. As is, if they took out Rick it would just look like a new Suffering or some shit. And what's up with the John Cena look, anyway?

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.

I can't bear to look. I already saw the pictures in the magazine where he's a meaty mess and he's growing all his shit back like Prometheus in GoW2 (which is like health recharging.)

The sound of eight hooves reaches his ears, comes from the heavenly light, two wolves howls fills his heart with fear, and he sees two ravens fly. Down from the sky a warlord rides, like fire his one eye glows, and just before the preacher dies he knows his god is false.

I love the look of this game. It's been far too long since we've had a game where we can the punch the crap out of scary beasties. Fills me with a sense of nostalgia.

It's been seven months since the last post.
Haunted by guilt and tormented by Nightmares...Nightmares of...
Delay after delay and the infernal temptations of the Mask.
"This thread doesn't have to die, forumers."
    "We can save it."

    "You need this game."

So...apparently this is out now? Has anyone played it? Read any reviews of it?

Theres a quicklook at giantbomb, looks like a mediocre brawler with gorey themes. The mask is kinda annoying, too.

....I'm pretty sure that's the voice actor that did Darkwing Duck and a hundred other Disney cartoons.

    SOLD

Yeah, I dunno, looks like it could be pretty fun in a mindless way.

I'll probably rent it, or buy it when it's really cheap.

Well lets face it, Splatterhouse was never known for it's amazing gameplay. It was about being over the top with a sick sense of humor, and that's the vibe I'm getting off of this.

Also, apparently this has complete copies of all three of the original arcade games (including the ultra rare arcade version of the original), which as a very nostalgic Splatterhouse fan makes it worth the price of admission on it's own frankly.

Looks like it could make a good rental. It has a really really forced atmosphere in places (HEAVY FRIKKEN METAL) and it seems pretty glitchy, but at least the glitches look like they're just relatively minor graphical/audio things and not something worse. Plus, look at all the blood.

EDIT: Hah! Just got to the sidescrolling bit of the Quick Look. That's a pretty neat touch.

Reviews look to be mixed, but mostly positive. And I think the mask's voice is Jim Cummings.

    edit: Beat'd.

Rented this and beat it over the last few days

The gameplay feels kind of like a stripped-down God of War and the Splatterkills get kind of repetitive, but it's great fun if you like endless beat-em-ups. Cummings also did a pretty good job with the VA work.

But! Most of the platforming bits are complete BULLSHIT, and just about everything is an insta-kill during these. This wouldn't be quite so bad if the loading screens weren't over a minute long each and every time you die. I've heard it's better if you install the full game to your HD, but I wasn't able to check.

It's fairly short, maybe around 7-8 hours (give or take an hour of LOADING SCREENS) for the campaign depending if you look around for collectibles. The collectibles are naked pictures of Rick's girlfriend. So, yeah.

Just poking in here to say it was a really solid rental; the story is pretty well done, the voice acting is good, the gameplay, while repetitive, is very satisfying. Plus, some of the one-liners are very funny, and while they are repeated, the game devs were nice enough to put in alternate takes, so you get a different emphasis during the repeats most of the time.

The key thing that is annoying about this game are the load times. I installed it to the xbox and it still feels like a 30 second wait. Aside from that, it is enjoyable. I like that you can still splat the monsters against the walls.

Also, it comes with the 3 old Splatterhouse games and the the first one is actually the arcade version.

So is the general thought about this is that it's worth a rental? I've been looking forward to this reboot forever. I remember the fond days of playing the TG16 version for hours on end and getting my ass handed to me around the 4th or 5th stage. Does only the PS3 version contain the 3 other games or does the 360 as well? I'd probably go with the PS3 version anyway, seeing as how that's becoming my single player go to machine as of late.

The 360 version also has the old games as well. The "Lens of Truth" site also has a comparison on it.
