I've been having weird connection issues for the past few weeks. The most obvious symptom is that I've been getting a lot of dropped connections when using IM clients. If I'm writing an email in google the pane on the left showing googletalk info will be almost constantly telling me "unable to reach gmail..". I was getting this on AIM aswell. Oddly enough, it seems to be less of a problem when using AIM on Ubuntu, but I haven't really tested enough to say whether that's just me imagining things or not.
I got a 360 yesterday, and tried to plug it into my network. When tested the first couple times, it failed on the MRU check. After that, it failed several times on the IP check. Then the MRU again, back to IP, etc. I gave up after 20 minutes or so, I couldn't figure out what could have been wrong. I turn it on today... works first time. Weird. So I make my Xbox Live profile, set up sharing from my computer for media, play some GTA online, everything is going smoothly.
Then about ten minutes ago, while browsing through music, I lose my connection to my computer. And Live. I have internet on my computer, there just seems to be something screwing with the connection between my router and my 360.
So my first question is, any ideas for pinpointing the problem? The network in this house is like so: Modem -> Router -> Switch -> PC + 360. (There's another PC coming off the router in a different part of the house).
My next question is, can I access my save info on an Xbox Live account if I can't connect to Live? I didn't think this would be an issue until I tried to play GTA and it wouldn't let me load my profile >.<. I'm sure I'll have access to Live again soon enough (it went up then down again while I was writing this), but I don't want to lose the ability to play every time it's down.
