    Actually, not like CAD. CAD is due to bad art. Dinosaur Comics is about the writing, the reused comic panels only add to its charm.

    See the joke here was that CAD is terrible

    It's a joke because the art of CAD looks bad and the artist has shown no improvement since he started.

    I think the art changed for one arc, where they get into discussions of the reality of evil twins. Later they visit the Parallel Universe, or whatever, where the images are flipped from normal order, and everyone has a goatee.
