Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
65 years have passed since the time of troubles - the fall of the last great emperor at the hands of an invading Orcus, Demon Prince of the Undead. With the empire's armies thrown into the breach between this world and the Shadowfell, nomadic and barbarian tribes from beyond the Great sea to the West invaded and pillaged. Only recently have they left for their icy home beyond the waves.
Mandatory Worship of the Raven Queen now a thing of the past, local dieties and tribal religions are springing up to fill the gaps once held by the pantheon of the Raven Queen, Bahamut, and Corelleon. New territorial gods, bloodstained with faces painted with Woad, sit as graven images above the mantles of houses from Laonland on the North Coast, to the Pragonssen forest in the south.
One small hamlet clings to the old ways, and the old temple, now held together more with ivy than with mortar, still holds services for the three Old Gods of Death, Justice, and the Arcane. It's militia falters, but the people have entrusted their hope to 5 young adventurers, gifted with the spark of destiny, who have recently come of age in this small collection of faithful from every race...
You are the Heroes of Theafast.

How are people factoring starting hit points? I'm sort of confused because as far as I can tell for fighters its 15 + constitution modifier, so I must be missing something . . . .

I notice two things majorly wrong:
-As already mentioned, your hp is 15+Con, not 15+Con Mod, so you should have 29 hp, and your healing surge should be worth 7.
-As a fighter, you start with proficiency in all but exotic, err, superior, weapons. So you're already proficient with the Longsword, pick yourself a new feat. Damn humans.
The only other thing, is you should probably pick up some form of ranged attack, just in case.
Re asuma: Some healing abilities would be good, I think there are a couple that let you hit people and heal. I was planning on multi-classing to Warlord eventually, but if you don't want to be the sole healer, I can do that sooner rather than later.
Thanks, I kept reading it as con mod even though it is clearly con score. With weapon proficiency I was reading that class skill not a the feat weapon proficiency but as the basic ability to use the weapon types, simple, military, etc., not as the proficiency in a particular weapon such as with a long sword.
I used the 22 point system and it looks like everyone's ability scores come about about the same
I am rolling a cleric. But like I said. Most of the abilities I chose are more combat based.
Do I need to make a pure healer? or am I ok. I dont know enough about the class to know if its going to be a problem or not

You're probably OK.
The real need is the 2/Encounter Healing Surge + 1d6 + Wis as a minor action.
In the video he mentions being able to insert a variable in your macros (all the numbered buttons on your macro bar).
So I could do: Attack roll [1d20+3+mod]
and when i run it i would get a pop up that asks for the vale of "mod". That way if a get a situational bonus or penalty I could add it to the roll all clean like. I get "invalid" when i try to run one.
Its no big but since it was in the video I thought I might be using an old version.

he's actually talking about Token Macros.
Which would be really nice if you were an anal retentive GM with no friends who made a macro for every monster, or ran like 50 characters.
Since you're not either of those things, just stick to the globals with a hard-coded value. If you have a bonus, just say so.
Ok so I finally got around to finishing my guy up. Lemme know if the origin is taking too many liberties.
Coming from the Eldarin manor at the edge of town, Kilmihil was a late addition to the group. At one time, the feywild crossing on the manor grounds was once close enough to enter with hardly any effort. Now the passage has grown dark and dangerous. First son among the Eldarin children raised in this outpost of feywild, Kilmihil has been sent to see if any other connections have faded so too.
Raised among his kin, Kilmihil is silent to the point of rudeness among humans. He considers them short lived and useless, an opinion given to him by his teachers. Youthful and arrogant, but able to put his trainers on their backs.
I'm sure that reads horrible, I'm half asleep. I'll try to clean it up later.
Here's my tangled web profile, anyone want to check to make sure it all looks right?
Appearance:
Zharash is a towering Dragonborn who, although already obviously in shape, has not quite yet filled out all the way, due to either simply his youth, or having o skip meals once too often. His scales are primarily a dull gray, closely matching unpolished steel, with a few groups of rust colored scales on his lower arms and hands.
His armor is utilitarian, marked only on the right shoulder by the symbol of his clan, two lightning bolts in a v shape, in woad.
During the few times he is in public unarmored, Zharash typically wears a loose robe like garment of rough undyed wool.
Background:
The Skybolt clan is a modestly sized clan of semi-nomadic Dragonborn who combine herding with mercenary work and trading in order to survive. More recently, the clan has fallen on hard times as the amount of mercenary work has dried up due to the loss of many major civilized settlements; this has resulted in the Skybolt clan recently stooping to de facto extorting smaller settlements for protection, a practice that many of the clan feel is beneath them, but that the clan chief insists must be done for the survival of the clan.
Zharash was one of the most outspoken critics of the clan chief's strategy and despite his youth, his standing as one of the clan's up and coming warriors allowed him to take the lead in opposing the clan chief. Fortunately, Zharash realized that the clan was polarizing, and that any attempt by an opposition led by himself to unseat the clan chief would result in the fragmentation and likely dissolution of his clan, as Zharash was not strong enough to best the clan chief in single combat and thus could not claim control of the clan as tradition dictated. As a result, Zharash left his clan and everything he knew in life, swearing to return when he had found a better way of life for them, and had become strong enough to challenge the clan chief.
He spent roughly a year wandering, engaging in various odd mercenary jobs, before ending up in Theafast. There he was introduced to the teachings of Bahamut, and having found a god who's view of how a warrior should act matched his, immediately converted from the halfhearted worship of his clan faith. While he is a recent convert, Zharash is very interested in learning more about his new, and far better, god. Indeed, he has spent over a month now in Theafast studying with the priests at the temple there and generally helping around the village. As such, the massive Dragonborn is a more familiar site in the hamlet, and children are now much more likely to run towards him than away.
Personality Traits:
Zharash is considered large even by Dragonborn standards, among other races he seems positively gigantic. Zharash had never seen a halfling before setting out to adventure, and is quite astounded that anyone could be so tiny. He takes special care to watch where he steps around the little folk.
When bored, Zharash likes to spend time whittling, and at least a few half finished statuettes can be found in his packs at all times.
Children of all races seem drawn to Zharash, and he is often coerced into telling stories and otherwise entertaining them, to his obvious pleasure.
Notes:
-If this takes off as a campaign I'm planning on picking up at least the first multi-class feat for either Warlord, Cleric or Paladin, depending mostly on how RP ends up going.
-Likewise, at some point Zharash is going to want to go back and confront his clan chief, but not for a pretty significant number of levels.
-I deliberately left the size of the clan vague, that way at some point the Skybolt Clan could be used as antagonists (If they get desperate enough they might hire out to a villain) without me feeling too bad if we have to kill a few of them.
-Zhar is probably related to the clan chief some how or another, maybe an uncle or something, I dunno.
-I will be so stoked if someone plays a Halfling, you have no idea. The thought of a giant near seven foot tall 340+ pound (he'll gain a bit of weight as time goes on and he fills out) Dragonborn ad a four foot 70 pound halfling getting into scrapes together amuses the heck out of me.
Yeah, they mesh fine. I'll spend tomorrow getting everything all together.
However, I just got tickets to the local soccer game tomorrow night, so I might be on a bit later. We'll plan on 10:30 - 12 EST for this first session.
Heath Lightfoot had his Human mother and Elf father brutally murdered in front of him as a very young child. The murderer taunted him saying that this moment would live with him for the rest of his life. Then with that the Man disappeared from sight, as his house burst into flames.
Heath to this day hasn't forgotten the words his parents murderer had told him. Though his memories are fuzzy he does know that the person who killed his parents is a humanoid, whether pure human, elf or Eladrin, hes not sure. The only worthwhile keepsake that he was able to gather from his home after it had burned was a single silver ring with a crest engraved upon it.
The local church of Bahamut took the boy in and cared for him for his whole adolescent life. Growing up in the church, he learned of the god named Bahamut. and was also trained by the monks of the church how to defend himself and others. Only as Heath grew did he begin to see the world are not black and white, where was the justice for the man who killed his parents? Heath left the church to find his own answers and in his searches he learned of the goddess Sehanine who teaches to seek your own destiny, horizons and experiences. With that knowledge Heath swore his allegiance to the god Sehanine.
He wanders now to find and kill the man who murdered his parents. To learn of others, himself, and the world around him.
anyone interested in setting up some sort of VoIP system? I don't have a mic, but if enough of us wanted to I'd grab one. I think being able to talk to each other without typing would help the group gel.

PA uses ventrilo extensively (SE and G&T both have their own dedicated servers I think) .
I have a mic and am comfortable with VOIP, but it's really Legionnaired's call.
On an unrelated note, can someone help me understand the aliasing thing in MapTool? I read the stuff on the site, but I can't seem to make heads or tails of it. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person that plays D&D/is on the PA forums without any grounding in computer programming.

Aliasing allows you to create a "shortcut word" that stands in for a bunch of typing and rolling. For example you could alias "sword" for "sword attack [1d20+3] damage [1d8+3]" thus saving typing
I don't think players really need aliasing, I recommend using Macros, you then have a button with the word sword on it that rolls the same, no typing at all Its easier all around.
you can read more about both here
EDIT: the player start video is even better however don't use mods for your rolls, thats in the next version.you will get an error in 1.2
Here are some of my macros
Spoiler:
I gave them titles and even color coded them to match the Will/Encounter/Daily statblocks. You can edit the button by right clicking.
Magic Missile button
/me fires a blue shard of energy with a flick of his wrist
/s Magic Missile Range 20, Single Target
Attack Roll [1d20+3] vs. Reflex
Force Damage [2d4]
Hope that helps! I think Legionairered was going to stick with the maptools chat for now....

Thanks a bunch, I totally missed the fact that right clicking on the macro buttons allowed you to edit them. Probably because that isn't specified anywhere in the documentation, grr. I think I can figure it out from here.

Yeah, the documentation for this absolutely sucks, but I've just figured out how to drop dungeon-tile jpegs onto the map and set field of vision.... the end result is absolutely slick.
What server are we meeting up on? Or all that in IC thread? Also, there are thunderstorms going on around me so I might lose power tonight, I doubt it but it is a possibility with this weather.

I assume you rolled a paladin?
I hope so, your the only healing we have and I am squishy soft...
no pressure
15 + con score
so you get 29

That's huge.
Thats all you had to say
The smitinest Cleric is a better healer than the healingist paladin.
I'll make a scan of my char sheet and email Legionnaired a copy.
I've got it covered.
is that correct?
Doing the Macros, yeah it should speed things up. Though or some reason it thinks mod variables are invalid...
For me (as an example)
if i do
/roll 1d20+7
that works just fine.
So I could do: Attack roll [1d20+3+mod]
and when i run it i would get a pop up that asks for the vale of "mod". That way if a get a situational bonus or penalty I could add it to the roll all clean like. I get "invalid" when i try to run one.

I can change to be a village native or longer term resident if that fits better.
