Chromehounds (This product is a work of fiction)
ch41nb2.jpg

What is it?
Chromehounds is the latest mech/giant robot action game developed by FromSoftware (makers of the Armored Core series) and published by Sega. from the Sega site:

"Chromehounds brings intense multiplayer HOUND combat to the Xbox 360 for the first time ever. In this massive global conflict, three nations with opposing political views have erupted in an all-out war. From the cockpit of a giant metal "HOUND", you must power your tower of heavy artillery through giant war zones while backing five others on your squad and dodging the firepower of six other live players via Xbox Live. One team member will be elected Tactics Commander and lead the team through the fray via voice commands. You are responsible for arming and customizing your massive mechanized weapon, but overload it and you won't get very far. Your teams' successful completion of missions will open up valuable new items that will bring you all that much closer to victory. Chromehounds also offers numerous single-player missions, plus training modes for team combat and HOUND control familiarization.

Features:

Multiplayer combat mode allows players to build squads of up to 20 players and take to the field in clans of six for head-to-head battle with opposing clans. Conquer enemy territory to advance towards world domination.
Single player action allows players to sharpen their tactics and create a HOUND that best suits the battle. Take on the role of Tactics Commander and strategically transform your team of massive HOUNDS into unbeatable war machines.
Customize your HOUND from a huge array of options to create a walking arsenal of firepower and then take it to the field in both first and third person perspectives.
Wage war in 115 maps spread over three nations. Stunningly realistic battlefield effects draw you and your squad into the fast-paced fray. "

Extensive mech customization is expected for Chromehounds, simliar to what they've done in the Armored Core series

ch24lf.jpg
ch30wl.jpg
There is currently an online mech builder with a few basic parts from the game as well as a gallery where you can vote for your favorite design here

In addition to the normal single player story mode, Chromehounds features 2 aspects of online gaming. The first involves straight up ranked and unranked matches with up to 12 players across various gametypes: (as posted by Ziggymon)

- Standard : Defeat the opposing teams hounds or HQ
- CTF : Typical capture the flag mode
- Combas Keeper : A Territories gametype, keep as many points on the map in you're teams control for as long as possible
- Death Match : Competition based on number of enemies you're team destroys, penalties for destroying anything other than enemies or dying
- Unlimited : same as death match but unlimited ammo
- Survival : Typical survival, last man standing mode
- Keep the flag : Similair to 'Oddball'; points awarded for having posession of the flag the longest
- Break all : Competition based on amound of objects you're team destroys (buildings, tanks etc)

The second aspect of online gaming in Chromehounds centers around a persistent online gameworld. Players can form clans and join 1 of 3 in game countries to fight for. By fighting players from other nations and winning battles, the areas of a country will expand (or retract if losses occur), giving a country more power and money. Parts can be bough or used from a player's single player game. This game mode is supposed to cycle every couple of weeks with the work resetting during this time (assuming a single country has not taken over the world map before hand)

The current game map and country leaderboard can be found here (thanks EliteBattleman!)

Country Information
from the 360 Wiki:
There are three warring nations in Chromehounds: the Democratic Republic of Tarakia, the Republic of Morskoj, and the Kingdom of Sal Kar. Here's what the official site has to say about the mech types for each of them:

1. Democratic Republic of Tarakia
C. Hound Special Characteristics
Tarakian Hounds are average in both cost and performance. On the good side, they're easy to use and stable, but on the other hand, they have no defining features or particular strengths.

2. Republic of Morskoj
C. Hound Special Characteristics
These Hounds are like you'd expect: strong, robust, durable, and overall big. They also have large amounts of firepower and are well-suited to duking it out one-on-one in open areas. However, Morskoj Hounds are lacking in variation, and they have little to no mobility.

3. Kingdom of Sal Kar

C. Hound Special Characteristics
Employing many light-weight, high-performance parts, Sal Kar's Hounds tend to be few, but effective. Their designs are particularly complex. As mobility is the prime goal in Sal Kar designs, durability can be a problem. These Hounds are expensive, and like Morskoj's designs, they lack in variety.

Downloadable Packs
Sega and FromSoftware are going to be releasing downloadable packs for Chromehounds which will contain additional weapons, parts and camo patterns to use on the mechs you build in the game. Sega has announced the first of the packs on the official Sega Chromhounds forum which will be free as a thank you of sorts for dealing with some of the network issues that have popped up with the game after it's release. This first pack became available for download via Xbox Live Marketplace on July 19th and contains:

Light Arms
http://tinyurl.com/n8mdn
WP_SG003
A sniper cannon for fast, furious engagements. Features a smaller magazine to reduce weight.

Heavy Arms

The second group of downloadable parts has been released to the marketplace. Here's some shots and translated descriptions from the Japanese Chromehounds site (please excuse the Engrish of the translations, but it was easy to cut and paste, and somewhat entertaining to boot . . ) All weapons and the camo pattern are 100 pts, and the spacers are 60 pts.

What Do We Need To Do??

Buy the game!!
A demo has been released for the game and is currently on the Xbox Live Marketplace for all regions except North America. :( If you have an Xbox silver or gold account for another region (directions for doing this can be found on the internet), you can download and play this demo, as it is not region locked and is in English.

So, with all that information, discuss!!

(and please feel free to point out anything I should add, remove, change, spell correctly, etc. . . :P )

I thought I would post some current clan information here in order to help facilitate people getting into a clan. I'll post any special information about the clan that might be pertinent as well (like if it's a UK clan or associated with another squad outside of Chromehounds, etc.). The name in bold is the name you should search on when browsing through the clan list in game. For more information, like passcode for entry or current country being played, please visit the 360 Arcadians wiki page for each clan. The best idea for getting into a squad, is to check out the info on the wiki pages, then either post here or message one of the squad members, for coordinating a time to gain entry to a squad.

Also, apparently, for a clan to show up in the clan list, someone from that clan has to be online, which might make it difficult to join until more people get into the clans (or get online, which will probably be happening tonight), so, keep this in mind. (thanks for pointing this out Dogthulhu!)

    Currently registered Chromehounds Squads

Squad Name - Special Squad Info

Arcadians - general purpose, anyone from PA clan
P.R.O.D. - General purpose, anyone from PA, anti-jackass squad
Washs Warriors - Designated British clan / Europe timezone
Iron Skies - general PA clan, thought Crimson Skies wasn't manly enough
Vindication - PA individuals who are vindictive against reviewers who gave Chromehounds a bad score

Yeah, I go out of comm range to attack their base, figuring there was just the one guy in front of me to deal with and Neural will distract the other guy. Well the other guy came back and they double-raped me. When my little man spawn, I hear Neural over the comm talking to somebody on the phone.

Then I hear Chad say "You're a douche."

And he goes "No, I'm fucking DEAD. You couldn't do the simple task of distracting the guy!"

Other than unlocking them from Singleplayer, the best parts are to be had from the lottery.

Go into "Special parts" in the shop section. Experimental parts are usually pretty good, such as the movement chips the countries have. Select the chip and hope you win the lottery when it occurs at 1 AM Central time.

Supposedly you can get half of the parts in the game by S-Ranking all of the single player missions. The other half you get through the store and the parts lottery.

Thanks. I wasn't necessarily looking for a 'win' button, but I've been getting blowed up a lot, but that may have more to do with my Sniper getting forced into the Soldier role due to playing with a Scout and a Gunner.

I have only ever lost to pile scouts once, twice if you include the first time I'd ever seen one and didn't know what was going on.

Pile scouts are easily my favorite kind of enemy to face. First thing you do is add a mine layer to your hound, second thing is always keep an eye on your base.

It's rockets hitting me directly on the cockpit that stops me every time.

I never really understood where that line of thought came from. If the research reset each war, it cause a massive unbalance for any new players. They would have to wait for new parts to be researched while older players would be running around using all the highest researched ones.

so,the announcement in the official forums said something about:

    • Balancing battlefield endurance properties
    • Adjusting occurrence of special events

    anyone know what that means?

Well the second one probably has to do with spawn rates for those super hounds and special events in the news cast like getting more subsidies, parts being captured, etc.

Battlefield endurance properties is probably "For the love of god lets make the war last longer."

battlefield endurance properties, sounds like they are maybe adjusting the capture points for battlefields? so 1vs1 cpu pile farmers have to...well...farm more?

You're not so bad yourself, stud. :winky:

I will say that, in the three days I've been playing a few hours a day online, I'm having a blast even when I'm being killed.

I love how the power company hates me. Roughly twice a week, the power goes out, always at the worst time. Just now it went out when I started a 1-1 against some newb on a small map with perfect visibility. Sniper rage!!

Have they fixed pile mechs yet?

    Yep they work great! :P

Have you armored your hound yet? If not, S-Rank the third defender mission to get the diagonal spacers, which let you put a piece of armor right in front of your cockpit.
This got BOTP'd. Please explain. With pictures and diagrams.

    1. Place cockpit on legs.
    2. Place generator on cockpit.
    3. Put diagonal spacer on the front of the generator, and rotate it so it's facing down.
    4. Put armor plate on the end of the spacer.
    5. ?
    6. Victory!
