It was so windy over here in England once that it nearly blew my umbrella inside out, no lie.
the first full day my dad spent in England in the exchange program with Her Majesty's Royal Navy, there was rain, hail, sleet, snow, fog, thunder, lightning, 50 mph winds, and clear and sunny skies all within 8 hours

One of my scarier moments of my childhood was lying wide-eyed awake in bed with all the lights off while Hurricane Andrew bears down on my old Louisiana home.
Eventually I fell asleep and when I awoke I thought something was wrong, because a quick glance at my window showed it was dark out. Turns out it was about an inch and a half of moss and muck from the nearby swamp stuck fast to the side of the house from the wind.
Also while typing this I was reminded that my dad used to call that old swamp a "slew" but looking through most of the spellings I could think of nothing matched the definition of a swamp-like waterway. Any southerners got the word handy?
Yes. Let's stop talking about wind and instead give me more excuses to post lots of screencaps.
Since when did you need excuses?
I try to limit my Simpsons BS to related threads or at least only when folks directly bring it up. Otherwise I'd be posting shit in most threads about how what people are talking about reminds of some episode and posting the appropriate picture.

I've never heard it in a Southern accent, but "slough" seems to fit the definition. I've only heard it pronounced in a Yorkshire accent to rhyme with "now."

That is totally it Jedoc, thanks.
It's likely more of a cajun thing than just the south in general. Lived all over the southeast US growing up though so I'm never too sure where I pick anything up.

Missed this earlier, but if you don't take every chance you get to see the Blue Angels fly then there's something wrong with your soul.

Or it laughs at you when it's flying through the wind right at your face. Actually, that might a YouTube I'd want to watch - I love physical comedy.
Pfft, I'm near the fault line that lifted this whole country out of the sea, but hasn't had any major movements in the last 100-150 years
