Hmmmm... I thought we weren't posting in here in order to deny Buddy the chance to create a new thread. Guess not. :)

So, Stephen Appiah is training with Spurs this week. Also, Podolski's price tag is only £10 million, which is a little lower than I expected.

I think Bayern just want rid of him as he's not been very happy there for a while now. If that price tag is accurate though, he's surely got to be going in this transfer window.

  • oldmankenoldmanken Registered User regular
Well, would be a good signing for Spurs I think, as they need some firepower up front. Otherwise, he'll probably go to Man City like every other player in the world. :)

  • KagliciousKaglicious Registered User regular
True, plus podolski would like it if Spurs also got downing (which still could happen, even though boro refused his transfer request), meaning he wouldn't have to play on the left as much and can play up front like he prefers.

  • oldmankenoldmanken Registered User regular
I would be surprised if 'Boro sold Downing to Spurs. Their first offer of £6 million was just insulting, so if it were me I wouldn't even bother doing business with them.

  • KagliciousKaglicious Registered User regular
I also doubt that Downing would go in this window, but surely it's now inevitable that he's going in the summer. It seems like every window he's going but I don't think he's handed in a request before now.

I reckon if Drowing Rat fled the Sinking Ship 'Boro, he'd probably go to Liverpool, while Defoe will goto Spurs and hopefully Podolski. :)

So, looks like Spurs are going to get Defoe after all, as their offer for him has been accepted. So about a year ago they sold him and made £7.5 mil, and now they are buying him back for £15 mil... great bit of business.

Also, rumour has it that Arsenal has offered £5 mil + Bendtner to West Ham, in exchange for Upson. Not sure if that's the best deal, but I do like Upson.

Why would Liverpool want Downing while they have Riera?

Yeah, that's what I don't understand... Riera has been the best new signing of the first half of the season.

Beats me, he's not nearly old enough. :)

So, it's confirmed that Arsenal are in talks with Zenit over Arshavin. I just hope we don't spend £20 mil on him, as I think he is worth £15 mil max.

Are you kidding me? I often wondered if Jermaine Pennant would be picked up by any struggling clubs; I always figured he wouldn't be a very good investment.

    But Milan? Really? Hmm...

Don't get me wrong, though, I think Pennant is the shit. Drunk driving, truancy, punching opponents, and illiteracy is totally awesome!

    -EDIT-
Hull City, that's who! Apparently Phil Brown is interested in the "out-of-favor" striker. I would LOVE for Jermaine Pennant to go to Hull City and bring about domination.

For Hull City Pennant would be an excellent signing, as that's about the level I put him at. But the interest from Real Madrid, whom he foolishly demanded too high a wage from, and from AC Milan just boggles my mind.

  • yotesyotes Registered User regular
My perception of Pennant is too closely tied to Boudewijn "weird, shouldn't there be somebody out wide to take that ball" Zenden for me to judge him objectively.

On the one hand, he was a billion times better than Boudie.

On the other hand, I'm comparing him to Zenden which is like minus a trillion points. I wouldn't compare my shit to Zenden.

Yeah, that's what I don't understand... Riera has been the best new signing of the first half of the season.

So that would mean Liverpool don't want Downing then? It's the only sensible conclusion.

Pennant's agent must be working really hard to get a good contract out of Wigan:
"But Real Madrid and AC Milan want him, that's got to be worth another 20 grand a week. I'm totally serious. Hello?"

Kinda sad to see Dean Windass on the chopping block but the dude is 39. I wouldn't trust him to run 60+ minutes against most of the defenders in the Premier League.

Arsenal on verge of £10million Andrei Arshavin signing.

If that price ends up being correct, then that would be a steal of a deal! Would such a good deal be Ivan Gazidis' doing? Because if so, I'm really glad we got him in...

I would agree arikado, hell he help hull make the prem leap, hes been pretty decent off the bench for them too. I could see a cocacola team pick him up for sure though.

Most other clubs are better than Middlesbrough?

Liverpool might have been interested before the summer, but the likely fee of £15 million isn't good value for money in Downing's case. There's also the fact that Steve Gibson doesn't want to deal with Liverpool.

Which basically means he's gone come summer wgether or not Boro survive the chop. Also it's fair to say that Boro are awful under Southgate but that's what happens when you insist on buying nothing but strikers and field a keeper and back 4 with an average age under 25.

Why exactly was he expecting that to happen, anyways? They don't exactly have a history of greatness. They're not rich. They're just Boro.

I dunno, mabbe because they were half decent before Southgate became manager?

  • DiarmuidDiarmuid Registered User regular
I think Southgate's done ok at Boro, but this season is crazy, one win and you can make a Uefa cup place, one defeat and you're staring the Championship right in the eyes.

Under Steve McLaren they finished 14, 12, 11, 11, 7, now 14, 12, 13 under Southgate. It's not like he's dragged them down bigtime. Downing signed the extension after Southgate had been in charge for two years, probably should have known better.

O'Shea is a good utility player, to be honest. I would have him in the Arsenal squad, as he can play pretty much everywhere on the pitch... even keeper. :)
