    Holy shit, amazing news!

    e: Maybe I should sell SO2 now...

Maybe this'll make SO2 not feel so dated after playing 3 right? Right?
    Spoiler:

Seriously though this is kind of unexpected. I'll definitely be picking up SO1 because I've never played it but like I said, 2 feels all kinds of dated now. I'll probably still get it though and play through the girl's story since I played through the guy's last time I played.

They're both pretty much straight ports of 2, with 1 being remade in 2's engine. Considering 2 hasn't aged well at all, they're both a definite skip.

I'm going to just say that at least 3 didn't lie to me throughout the whole game and it eventually did let me get into some futuristic space stuff. Neon lights, energy *insert thing here*, spaceships, it had it. What did 2 give me that was futuristic? Windmills and submarines. Goddamn it. I got to walk on a spaceship for about 5 minutes and use my gun for all of 2.

I liked 3 better than 2. That has at least at least a bit to do with me playing 2 with the sound on though.

I also liked the gameplay of 3 better than 2. As in the way it controlled over certain other aspects of 3, like weapon making. I liked 2's better. The story of either didn't really do much for me, so that's a wash.

God, I remember resseting so many times to make claude/raina have the theif increase ability (dexterous hands or something?) then trying to steal the damn box from the guy early in the game that has a random item that can be god knuckles x zomg blammersaurs, and you wouldn't find something better till near end of the game.

I loved that game so much. I don't think I would not mind it as a psp port.

Seriously can't wait for this. SO2 was one of my favorite PSX games, and I still can't believe the number of dumb fucking things they did with SO3. Looking forward to SO1 as well.

Now if only we could get the Suikoden 1/2 compilation localized.

That's all really, I'm just amused by that.

Rena's story was the best path in SO2.

Because you get the twin headed dragon kid, Sephiroth clone, and Claude.

And then you get 3 sets of Bloody Armor, pimp out Rena, and beat everything in the entire game with minimal effort.

    God that was so fun.

I blame Battle Trophies. I'm a sucker for collectible stuff and alternate outfits. Also it was strangely satisfying to make items that made me a super god. However when I died to the first boss version 2 in the optional dungeon I quit out of shame. I don't know how I was able to kill the boss in the dungeon before it without taking any damage and then the next guy one-shots me.

SO1 is good, but not the best. It's probably the least sci fi of all of the titles, though I never got to spend quality time with SO3.

Like SO2, it largely concerns the inhabitants of a primitive planet, but unlike SO2 where you're a spaceman stranded, you're just a lowly primitive person who eventually crosses paths with space faring adventures looking for a cure to some disease, IIRC.

Glad to see both of these games coming state side. Day one for both.

Yeah, he was so melancholic too! Great character though. Don't forget Dias, or the sniper with three eyes!

You know, I liked SO2 but I really hope they improve the dialogue. Hearing Rena and Claude say "we're investigating the sorcery globe" so many FREAKIN times got really annoying after awhile.

Indelacio Celestia or whatever her bitch name was?

I don't think that was in a dungeon. You had to make some weird ass Violin after defeating the first version and you played it and she rapes you into infinity.

I'm a sucker for games that let you level past 99, so SO2 kicked ass. Never beat it though.. I had a lot of the best weapons, Orchestra, all that stuff, but it was just too damn long.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree there. I still enjoy SO2's graphics, I think they're quite lovely.

Man, I love this resurgance of classic games being ported to hand helds. Tis a beautiful thing.

  • kropotkinkropotkin Registered User regular
With this and Chrono Trigger coming it would appear the classic JRPG is making a bit of comeback on the hand helds. Then again they've been doing that for quite some time...

No, it's the optional dungeon in the dungeon you've already been to before. The huge tower that was something like 200 floors but in the main game you basically take the express elevator and skip almost all of them. I had to fight that very early boss from the jungle planet and he just destroyed me in one hit. Maybe it was a fluke because I really don't think I should've died that fast.

    BigSpoiler2-1.jpg
  • mrsnackroadmrsnackroad Registered User
No, Gilder, that whole tower is made of enemies and super bosses that are pretty ridiculously hard.

Like, the guidebook recommends not even touching the tower until you've beaten Gabriel Celeste at the bottom of the Cave of Trials, ridiculously hard.

...also, I REALLY liked using Leon - "Knowledge is power!"

  • GilderGilder Registered User regular
See that's the thing, that was the boss I beat without taking any damage because I made a bunch of those godly items that increase my stats by a ton. I had like super refined Orichalcum, Santa's Boots on everyone, the works. And then that son of a bitch hits me with a lead pipe or something and I hit the ground like a bag of bricks. I just went "I beat Gabriel without taking any damage and this guy drops me in one hit? I'm done."

    Seriously?

I want to play Star Ocean 3 again to get to that point... but, I'd have to play Star Ocean 3 again.

    That's... thats pretty ridiculous there.

  • GilderGilder Registered User regular
To be fair, I was acting pretty cocky after beating Gabriel and I just waltzed in like the big man on campus but I thought that there was no way a boss so early on in the dungeon of bosses would be that powerful. Sure showed me.

I'm also not exactly sure what I had equipped but I know it took me absurdly long amounts of time to craft and refine them. I definitely had some orichalcum and boots though.

    BigSpoiler2-1.jpg
  • mrsnackroadmrsnackroad Registered User
I actually went with Boots of Prowess instead of Santa's Boots - the Santa's Boots got me the Orihalcum I needed to refine the Boots of Prowess, though.

Naturally, those boots have a +5% boost to attack and defense - but, after being max refined, they'd be +30% to atk/def... pretty handy boost to have, especially when Fayt's best sword is refined to 2400+ Attack on its own.

  • SchideSchide Registered User regular
Are you talking about SO3? I don't remember having much trouble with the bonus dungeon at all. Then I got the thing which let you fight the final final boss and I just never bothered. I had super mega equipment though. I'd have to go check to see exactly what I had by the end though.

SO is a Super Famicom game and it was pretty good, but was never released outside of Japan.

SO2 is a PSX game, was released in the States, and is much awesome.

SO3 is an abortion of a unloved god of chaos, sent to this plane of existence to torture us in mind and body. Released on the PS2.

This is the only time I've agreed with you.

SO3's forging was fucking stupid. There was nothing "special" about the system, it was just broken and shitty and required far too much trial and error to get it (but of course anyone bothering with it is just going to reset over and over until they do get it right).
