hehe... somehow despite having a compass embedded in his field of vision, and a marker to denote the direction to go, Finn manages to make the party walk around in circles before finally reaching their destination. ;p

Sometimes the marker's more of a suggestion than a strict direction to follow. :)

    OH YEAH?

*narrates it so you have the party walking around a rock* ;p

Are Finn and Ousaniel in the same hole? I.e. Can Ousaniel help him out first?

sure, if you can find him inside it! it's 3 squares deep, and at least 4 squares wide.

So Finn gets a +2 bonus to whatever escape attempt he decides to attempt

"a good leader can make an okay group great..."

Okay, first we build a tunnel - slowly at first, so the Germans don't notice...

Wait. Maybe he'll just climb out.

  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
    That works!

It's kind of funny that Ousaniel has risked herself to assist you given your scores (and it being IC to do so) and you killed that first check so much. :P

Oh and the DC for these checks is 21.

It's heroic! :D And maybe a little bit dumb. But the last time she was in deep trouble, someone gave her a split-second headache and told her to help Finn. Soldiers default to orders in high-stress scenarios. Can we assess the damage and have her roll again, pending any assistance from those outside the pit?

Crap, how deep is this pit? Could I have used my Giants Gloves to toss Finn out so he wouldn't take damage per second? Or does moving through sand-trap mud stuff not count as something like water, so the slide any direction wouldn't be applicable?

And since we only made one save each, I assume we're both still taking DPS from being in the trap? Like, being crushed by sand-pit-mud-stuff, or whatever?

    Picture is Dave Dorman's (http://www.davedorman.com/)
  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
oh, it's 30 feet deep. THEY HAVE A SUBBASEMENT. *cough*

crushed and baked. the sand is very hot.

using the gloves would like, throw him horizontally into the walls of the pit. which, while I think is funny... Finn wouldn't like.

Does Endaren need an athletics check to successfully anchor the rope? Or is it ready to climb on?

  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
no, HE don't need to use your use rope skill. ;p

edit: you would need a roll. Sorry I just noticed that you posted this, not Anialos. ;p

Treat it as a +2 bonus. If he does roll to pull you, then it would count as a success if he is successful.

If Endaren was a 3.5 character he might have several points in "Use Rope" :winky:

    Okay, Finn is clear.

Ousaniel probably won't need it, but Finn does have Knack for Success, which can give +4 on any one skill check.

  • srboyceboatsrboyceboat Registered User regular
Yeah, I think we can get the rolls for the most part. It's just taking that 4th 10 damage that it turns out is so terribly unnecessary. If Endaren gives the rope a solid heave-ho to help me out, do I avoid the fourth tick of damage, or is that coming one way or the other?

I was about to ask the same thing. What DC would it be for me to just yank her out of there before she takes that next tick?

So, short rest here, or should we get inside and hope for the best?

Ousaniel's probably the best bet to guide us to the building, what with her +20 on perception, even if she is a bit beat-up. Maybe tie a rope to her so we can haul her out any other trouble she gets into?

  • srboyceboatsrboyceboat Registered User regular
That +20 might be super specific, depending on how Tasty handles it. Thorough Search lasts an hour, and it's supposed to give me a big bonus for a specific area. But, if Tasty's okay with it, I'm absolutely fine being the lead-in. If not, I'd have to spend another healing surge to get that +20, and those are in somewhat severe supply at the moment. Unless Eron has a ritual that can transfer surges or something like that, Ousaniel's a little too tuckered out from her travels and efforts up to this point to risk that. I mean, I can do it, but we're going to need to find a place to have a little nap shortly thereafter.

  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
I wouldn't have said you had 15 minutes left on it if I wasn't going to allow you to use it searching this area. But in general you would only get that +20 to search one area/room. :p

Yah, we need to get inside and let the more beat up members catch a good nap.

Well, that's terrible. Guys, there are landmines strewn about. If they're rigged with blastpatch, we really don't want to step on them. Because there is no way tasty set up landmines with level 14 blastpatch. He set those things up with the tons of damage.

Tasty, is it possible to roll perception or history to see a pattern? If they were set up by a military force, Endaren or I may have learned about this dispersal at some point, which might give us a bonus to avoiding them. The player asked. Politicking for the party's lives as hard as possible.

Are there mines inside the building, or are they strewn between where we are and everywhere?

    Picture is Dave Dorman's (http://www.davedorman.com/)
  • tastydonutstastydonuts Registered User regular
    - If blastpatch or a similar substance were used in this environment, it would be flying about in the wind... deliciously so.

    - You are able to see the mines that you can see with your perception check already.

    - As far as you can tell, the interior of the building consists of darkness and sand blowing inside. It makes an ominous howling sound as it blows in and out of windows. Or... is that the wind?

edit: Just to clarify, this means that you don't need to roll to see a pattern in them. Their positions are clear... you got a perception 33.

Are you telling me in a sideways manner we've all been inhaling blastpatch and are about to explode? I'm fine with this. That's a hell of a way to end a campaign.

Well, part of me wants to forge ever onward, but I'm a good little soldier, so I'm gonna pass it up the chain.

    History if that's better:: 1d20+5 6 Doubtful

Perception if that's even better:: 1d20+29 30 Wow.

Man... what the hell? it's almost like the RNG wants me wreck you guys.

Anyhoo, this may get transferred into the IC thread, but the mines are as follows (via dungeoneering):

A fragile container with equally fragile stems that, when broken will expose its primed contents to the air, causing detonation. The liquid within is likely alchemical fire or acid. Some variants have blastpatch in the stems, for that extra wallop.

Will hold for response from others before doing anything further though. :p

was Keegan trying to disarm one of the mines?

Yeah. Translation: "Mines? I can probably deal with that." ... ... "Hmmf. We may have a problem."

  • DenadaDenada Registered User regular
I'm assuming the problem was that I forgot to press C to crouch before approaching, then I probably left-clicked the mine instead of right-clicked.

Oh geeze, well, lets hope its not a chain reaction and we can avoid the rest of them...

No need to thank me guys. It's all part of the job.

    Acrobatics and Endurance:
    Acrobatics: 38 39 27
    Endurance: 12 17 13

I guess this is the trade-off for being an invisible gun-halfling in the last battle.

    I'm okay with that.
