i'll have a little honesty moment here- a few years back, i had pretty long hair. not below-my-shoulders long, but pretty long. i cut it at the insistence of pretty much every person in my life, and with the lens of time can now look at photos from then and see that, yes, i looked terrible. of course i looked terrible. if i had it now, i would still look terrible, like some sort of shock-haired sea cow. despite all that, i still kind of wish i had it.

I just get this image of some dude trying to be hard as fuck while head banging to songs about skeletons raping demons and angels on fire and shit like that.
But then I get a second image.
That same guy, who was wearing pleather pants and a sleeveless iron maiden t-shirt, sitting infront of a mirror in a pink robe. I see him gaze into nothing while he removes his claw rings, spiked bracelet, and skull earrings, carefully putting them back in his coffin shaped jewelry box, before heaving a sigh and picking up his hair brush to slowly countdown from 100.
It's like a weird mixture of dethklok and that scene in grease where the girls are having a sleep over and they're writing letters on pink paper, talkin about boys and just generally carrying on as girls tend to do.
99% of guys fail at it.
And if you think you're the one guy who's got it, you aren't.

I miss it sometimes.
Heck, even few girls look really decent with long hair, and men's hair is more likely to be ratty and split-ended than a woman's hair.
I have just-below-shoulder-length-hair and I wouldn't go longer. My brothers both had long hair up until recently. One cut his very short and has since received a lot more attention and he looks fantastic. The other has trimmed a couple of inches off his, and even that has drastically improved the quality and shape.
Don't do long hair if you're a guy, and if you do, maintain that shit. Trim it at least every six months.
Truth. Sure, it gets shorter, but it look so much thicker and healthier.
...I'm way overdue for trimming mine. Woo, split hair ends.
Not if its past a certain thickness. Then you just have to constantly suppress the urge to set it on fire.
That, and with the beard, I look like Jesus.
Personally, I think I prefer having it longer rather than shorter, but not really long.

I'll also agree with the trimming, for what it's worth. It's not necessarily long hair that makes a guy look bad, but long hair that is neglected. There are still plenty of guys who can't pull off long hair, but keeping it nice helps more than I would have guessed. Also, not pulling it back in a ponytail helps too. It may get in your face all the time, but having it down appeals more to the girls that like their guys less masculine. Ponytail guys are easier to stereotype as geeks. At least the guys I know look way better with their shoulder length-ish hair down than in a ponytail.

you would be surprised how many guys do not even know conditioner exists.
And massive truth about getting cuts twice or so a year + conditioning. Lopping off an inch or so every cut gets rid of the split ends and makes it way easier to brush.
Long hair is nice if you maintain it.
