I mean, they're the sort of guys who would just skip the sex and go straight to the cuddling.

Maybe have a pre-filled cup of bodily fluids so they can still fall asleep in a damp patch.

    Don't joke around about that.

I'm taking little pre-filled baggies since I won't have time to pleasure everyone individually at PAX.

    Guys do that?

"Hey baby! Get ready for the most boring sex of your life" *puts on Sigur Ros* "OH YEAH!"

I'm going to see Sigur Ros in december I think, which is pretty good.

If your roommate has a Gettin' Some Playlist, it is your patriotic duty to put Yakkety Sax about fifteen minutes in. Or the loser horn from Price is Right.

I hear these guys are super dicks to tour with. Then again, I'll never tour with them, so I guess it doesn't matter.

I was just listening to them yesterday, such a good band. I especially love the version of Njosnavelin they did for the BBC's Culture Show and Electric Proms.

edit: also, I saw them about.. 8 or 9 years ago maybe, when they supported Radiohead. All I recall was some guy playing his guitar with a bow and singing into its pickups. Just recently I saw a video of them playing Svefn-g-Englar and realised it was that, and suddenly it was the best thing ever.

Oh, anyone who has Audiosurf and a copy of Takk, I can't stress enough how much you need to try playing Glosoli in it.

There is a point where it feels like the game was designed specifically for that one song.

I still need to get that. Sigur Ros would be badass in that game, from what I've seen.

I feel like I am missing something. I'm a music person and it seems like I should be way into this band. I've tried many times but I feel like Sigur Ros is kind of boring and often sounds the same. What I've heard of the new album seems kind of promising but I still feel like it's nothing too new from them. I'm blaming this all entirely on me though, because like I said, I've got to be missing something. They wrote music for choreography by Merce Cunningham for fuck's sake, and he's fucking awesome. He worked with/had sex with John Cage for crying out loud, it doesn't get cooler than that. What do I need to do to enjoy Sigur Ros?

In other news, my studio put on a composition recital a few years ago of arrangements for percussion ensemble and Glossoli was one of the tunes we performed.

    Two things.

One: Have you listened to much Glass, Reich, Adams, or other minimalistic composers?

Two: How are you classifying Sigur Ros in your mind? Classical, minimalist, rock? Post-rock is a really weird mix of romantic/pre-romantic/"pop-contemporary"(Think Whitacre) and Rock. And really if you're wanting them to be classical then they'll sound unsophisticated, and if you're wanting them to be rock they'll sound completely not connected to anything.

    None of that is important.

Yes, I'm a big fan of those composers. Not Glass so much though. Nonetheless, I don't consider Sigur Ros related to those composers by any stretch and especially not Eric Whitacre. I can kind of see where you're coming from with the minimalist thing by how Sigur Ros kind of sits on stuff for a long time and has slow developing harmonic movement, but I don't really consider it minimalist. It's just kind of boring to me. Something like Violin Phase can hold my attention for quite a while, but it's a struggle for me to even make it through Ageatis Byrjun. (I probably butchered that spelling).

I don't mean to get too academic, maybe they're just not my cup of tea. I want to like them though.

To answer your second question, I don't really classify them as anything. If I had to compare them to anyone, I hear hints of Aloha, maybe some Bjork, The Verve, Arts & Crafts-type stuff, but that's a stretch too.

Man I hate when bands try to claim that building up really slowly in songs is being 'progressive'. More relevant to dream theater and the like, but that comment about slow developing harmonies just made me think of that.

Sigur Rós is beautiful. I've seen them live twice - a couple of years ago at Oslo Concert Hall, and earlier this month at the Øya festival (also in Oslo). The only album of theirs I have is Ágætis Byrjun, I should probably do something about that.
