[IC]Hunter: The Vigil - "The rain felt cold, like Heaven was freezing over."
Hay look it's my Hunter game! Frankly I think character summaries in the OP are silly, since the characters are represented by their actions and not like three-sentence lines.
The game is set in Miami, and the characters are based out of their Safehouse, some sort of gym/dojo thing.
July 24, 2007
The rain poured down from the sky, a typical Miami afternoon. Even more typical was the one-minute news-bite of the latest murder, a picture of the victim displayed next to the news anchor as she spoke.
"Early this morning, a man was found brutally murdered. His chest carved with what appears to be a long kitchen knife, he was then thrown off the roof of a twelve-story apartment building. The victim was found without ID, heavily armed, and we have been told that he was dead for several hours before the police arrived. No witnesses to the crime have come forwards, and the Miami Police are looking for information on either the victim, or the crime."
A typical Miami day, except for a few select people who did know the victim.
Terrence 'Tex' King. One of the brave few who had kept the Vigil. One of the many killed trying to hold back the darkness.
Kieran Blackfoot woke up in what he called his "little corner of the safehouse". A slightly small yet decent sized room that had formerely served the purpose of housing equipment. Sure some of the kendo swords and basketballs were still laying around. But since the place had been converted into a safehouse; the room now had some nice accomodies -a reasonably sized television,a small dresser, a comfy bed, and of course a Tivo..
How Kieran loved Tivos...especially as a Hunter.. Any odd news blips and one can replay the oddities within a moments notice.
It just so happened that today was one of those Tivo days. And it seemed Terrence 'Tex' King was going to be the star of today's Tivo fueled fun.
Kieran always left his television on at night and he always recorded the news.
Once Kieran had fully woken up and skimmed through the news bits to hear of Terrence's demise. An odd look crosses his face. He stands up, wearing on a white undershirt and his pajama bottoms and exits his room.
The tivo remote is still in his hand, and he begins to walk around with it tapping on peoples doors as he eventually makes his way to a large japanese style sliding door which he opens to reveal a large training space.
Henry Adam Graves was walking restlessly back and forth in the training room.
He mumbled something to himself, while constantly looking on the wooden floor.
The look on his face somewhat concerned.
Suddenly the large sliding door opened.
Henry looked at Kieran, than again at the floor.
Jack stirred from his sleep at the sound of a knock on the door of his 'room'. Getting up, he found his way to the nearby bathroom where he took the chance to splash some cold water on his face. Looking up in the mirror, he noticed the bags under his eyes were still there. As always. He didn't sleep well, and when he did his dreams were either terrible or nonexistent.
He dried off his hands with a couple of paper towels, making thorough use of the brown paper before tossing it into the trash. With that out of the way, he wandered back into the hall, returning to his room to put a shirt on before following the others to the training room. He rubbed at his eyes, trying to rid himself the the fatigue that still clung to him, "What's going on?"
Amy walked into the safehouse through the front door as usual, coming back from her day job early. She was upset. It's one thing to find out someone you know had died, it's another thing entirely to find out on the afternoon news while teaching her tuesday youth class; those kids couldn't know she knew who the man on the news was, for their own safety. She heard talking from the main room, carrying in a couple bags of lunch.
"Did any of you guys watch the news?"
She dumped the Chinese takeout on a folding table near the big screen door.
Zeke unlocks the front door and walks into the gym, dressed in a pair of baggy shorts and a rather garish hawaiian shirt. His gait isn't entirely even, and he doesn't take off his sunglasses once he's inside. One of his hands is occupied with a styrofoam cup of coffee, while the other is absently rubbing the back of his head.
He ambles through the gym until he locates the rest of the crew, "Things just got serious," He says as he seats himself on a pile of practice mats, "does anyone know what the hell Tex got himself into?"
Kieran taps his remote against his head as he stares blankly at the floor
"I'm going to guess a werewolf or something worse....tearing him apart and throwing him off a building seems too rash for a vampire....And I have no idea why any normal human would go to the trouble..."
Zeke takes a long sip from his coffee. He glances briefly toward the Chinese food on the table, and then shakes his head and looks away.
"There's lots of folks you could piss off badly enough in this life that they'd carve up your chest and throw you off a roof just to make a point," he muses "but I don't reckon Tex got on the bad side of anyone of that particular bent. I could find out on that, unlikely as it is. Not much point to sending a message if nobody receives it. These things don't stay quiet."
Zeke finishes off his coffee, then reaches into his pocket to retrieve a pack of gum. He pops a piece into his mouth, and chews it as he continues:
"I'm new to all this crazy shit, keep in mind, but what's getting to me is that it sounds like his chest was torn apart. I think we need to find out more about how he was killed. What we've got now is pretty damn sketchy."
Henry starts walking again. "We don't have enough informations to come to any conclusions." Looking around he pointed at the table.
"I'm sorry this probably isn't appropriate, but i haven't eaten in a while and i'm damn hungry. Could i have some?"
Jack didn't bother waiting for an invitation, reaching into the bag and pulling out a small cup of rice and a handful of soy sauce packets. He poured the soy sauce in, stirred it up and started eating, more or less using the chopsticks to shovel the food out of the cup and into his mouth.
Wiping some stray rice from his mouth, he reached into the bag again and retrieved an eggroll, leaning against the wall next to the folding table and beginning to eat it, "Chances are likely he pissed off some leech. You know how he was about them."
Zeke shakes his head, electing not to eat any of the food. He shifts his posture to avoid looking directly at those who are partaking. "The way I see it, we need to gather as much information as possible. Taking a look at the crime scene, or talking to the cops, would be a good idea. Cops aren't really my bag, though. If someone plans to nose around that close to what happened, Amy maybe should go with them."
Zeke stands and walks to one of the drinking fountains, bending down to take a long draught. Satisfied, he straightens up and wipes his mouth. "I can talk to some of the people I work with, see if there's anything being said about this."
Dirt under his nails and smeared lightly across his face, Jon walks in through the front door. He is wearing a Marlins' hat, sunglasses, a red t-shirt (surprisingly clean) and jeans. His work boots are slung over his shoulder and he has a surprisingly casual air as he walks into the training room with the others.
"Heard about Tex from the radio at the graveyard. I'm new, but I figured this was one of those urgent team meeting things," he says, arching his back and swings the boots to the floor by the laces. "It's possible I know the building owner and I can probably get some info from the tenants regardless," he drags his boots along the floor toward his room, saying rhetorically, "Long kitchen knife; what the hell does that mean?"
Spoiler:
Sorry if I wasn't supposed to post yet! I will edit/delete if need be.
"It probably means: something with huge claws.....or long kitchen knife. Who knows?", Henry says while trying to get some noodles from the chopsticks into his mouth.
"I'm going to talk to the cops, maybe i can even get them to let me take a look at the crime scene."
He finally managed to actually eat some of the noodles he was struggling with.
"I would realy apreciate your company, if i have to investigate it...inofficially", Henry says and smiles at Amy.
Zeke grunts as he returns to his pile of practice mats and sits down. "I'm gonna have to vote for huge claws. Somehow I don't see Tex being taken out by someone with a Ginsu. And the report said that he was armed at the time.
I can probably manage some kind of ID that'll get you into the coroner's office, Kieran. People come and go in those places all the time, and I know a guy or two. I'll need you to get a couple passport photos done. You can drop them at my PO box, downtown. Should be able to have something for you by tomorrow afternoon.
So Kieran and Amy are going to check the crime scene. I'll talk to my people and pick up the fakes. Jon's going to find out about the building Tex got tossed off. Maybe Jack could help out with that? Henry? Do you want to go with Kieran and Amy?"
Zeke pauses and takes a deep breath. "Sorry, I'm rambling a bit. We need a plan." he smiles crookedly, "Does anyone have one?"
Zeke shrugs as Kieran departs, and stands. Perhaps a little bit too quickly, as he winces and appears to totter for a moment. "Right. Well, I'll take care of my side of things." he declares. He then unceremoniously shuffles his way toward the front door, unchaining it and letting himself out.
"Give me a bit to get dressed," He glanced to Jon for a moment and waited for a response before heading out of the training room and returning to his own.
Jon, having washed and changed his shoes, listened to the others' plans. Nodding to Jack, he motions to the door, "We'll pick up the afternoon edition down the street to see which building it was." He wipes his nose casually with his hand and turns on his heel for the door.
"Okay then, i will have a talk with the police first and then meet with Amy", Henry says as he walkes to the door.
He suddenly stops and turns around. "Maybe someone should check out Tex's stuff, it could give us some insight into what he was up to." Turning around again, he heads for the door again and mumbles "Take care of you and don't get busted."

"Lovely way to meet the new day, eh?"

He grabs a chopstick and sticks it into a dumpling, subsequently drenching it in some dipping sauce.
As he eats it barbarically in one whole bite/swallow, he briefly mentions
"So how do you want to go about this?"
"I'm guessing I can make my way into the crime scene, if we want.."
Wiping some stray rice from his mouth, he reached into the bag again and retrieved an eggroll, leaning against the wall next to the folding table and beginning to eat it, "Chances are likely he pissed off some leech. You know how he was about them."

Kieran stands up...
"I'll go get myself prettied up for my photo op. And I guess...I'll see if I noticed anything weird on the news recording"
He pulls out his remote and salutes
"Cheers"
and then walks out of the training room and back to his "room".
"I suppose I'd better wash up."
She walks out, glancing back as she hits the door.
"Henry, call me with the location to meet. Give me 30 minutes notice, will you? We'll make our way to the scene on foot from there."
