Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
That is not a service I offer, sir. (things I hate thread)

Worked with him for two weeks, and he got me a raise because, and I quote
"I like working with you, man. You get in, do your shit, and get out, no fucking around."
[Insert apologies for misinterpreted jocularity]
Yeah I have to do this... when I buy new underpants oh yeeeah!!
However the day I left retail and moved into a job where I don't have to deal with customers was one of the best days of my life. My stress and irritation levels have gone way down, and I will never ever work retail again. It is a hell that I have no desire to re-experience.
about a week ago I was in AMPM, and this lady was going off on this poor girl. Telling her how she should learn English. I was like damn.

Sales ran Sunday through Saturday
People would come in at 7:30 on Saturday night, or later once we were open till 10, and demand to know why we were sold out of a sale item
I dunno man
Maybe it's something to do with you waited until the sale was over to buy it
"hey do you have any Wii's in stock?"
"Let me check, yup!"
"Sweet! gimme!"
"Sure, uh, wait no."
"Huh?"
"We can't sell them yet"
"WTF"
"Yeah, we have to wait until the ad comes out NEXT SUNDAY for the 11 Wii's we got in stock, because 'thats fair to everyone'"
"I hope you get super AIDS."
Man who the fuck cares if you get my $250 now, or next week...
So bitching about the people who were hired and are just doing their jobs
Fuck you
Also, I once went into a circuit city and every game, DVD, and piece of hardware was backwards on the shelves and it was like some twilight zone shit

i go into the store, there is a huge table like 4 steps in with spore stuff piled on it, and a huge display and all of the galactic edition -_-
Present them or I don't believe it.

i bet she has some nice ones
I occasionally will jump to a cashier's defence if a customer is being a particular brand of asshole, especially when they decide that threatening some poor sap who they happen to be bigger than is a good idea. I am 6'4" and about 205 lbs. There are not many people who are bigger than me, and I tend to defuse situations rather quickly.
Working retail for four years has given me a tremendous amount of sympathy for anyone who has to deal with customers on a regular basis.

and there's tricks to doing it right
you've gotta act helpless, start out with the assumption that it's their job to know what they are doing and they probably know more about it than you
even if you know exactly what the problem is, go in and act desperate and lost they can help you and feel important about their job
sometimes you can nudge them in the right direction if they seem lost, but let them figure it out on their own
because if your service rep is happy, you're happy
And he couldn't understand me, either
I was all set to rage about customer service should at least speak decent English by god when they transferred me to this dude with a very classy British accent
Got my shit straightened out for me in two minutes
I want that guy to be my tech support guy every time
So...lie to a customer?
It sounds to me like they were trained on the policy, hence they told you "we can't sell it yet"
those are udderly divinely fantastic my bovinely inclined friend
i cowldn't cowtain myself
People love it when you're a nice / knowledgable customer. Several times my friends and I have gotten big discounts, extras, and other shit from head shops after spending like three hours in there discussing stuff with the people behind the counter.
No excuse for treating them like shit. Best Buy is one of the most ridiculous stores in North America for stupid policies that their employees are pretty much forced to follow. I once lost out on a raise because I didn't follow their sales policy to the letter (present clipboard, tell them the three main things about Best Buy that makes us different from our competitors, then present the sale in a very specific manner). If the store hadn't told them beforehand about not being able to sell the Wiis, it's not their fault, it's corporate, and they don't deserve to have it taken out on them.
Yeah man that sounds like store policy. Whenever we got Wiis in at Target we couldn't sell them until the ad came out advertising that we had them
squirting milk all over the place now
