Best supervisor I ever had was the guy at the steakhouse
Worked with him for two weeks, and he got me a raise because, and I quote
"I like working with you, man. You get in, do your shit, and get out, no fucking around."

i hate it when i catch myself doing "customer" things that i hate, like taking forever to count change or asking stupid questions to a customer service rep, etc.

i always pay for my shit as fast as i can because i know the cashier probably had to put up with all kinds of bullshit they didn't deserve already that day and probably don't want me fucking around in the line

Sometime I catch myself thinking "hey maybe i should ask if they have any other sizes in the back..." and i'm like uuurgh

Yeah I have to do this... when I buy new underpants oh yeeeah!!

The best thing about being one of the most senior employees at Best Buy in a labour-market where everywhere was having trouble hiring and keeping employees was that I was given a certain amount of leeway in how I dealt with customers. It certainly made my job more tolerable when I could tell a customer that he'd have to find someone else to help him because I didn't feel like helping someone who was verbally abusing me. Or when a guy demanded a deal, then told me he was going somewhere else to which I could reply 'well, yes, that was more or less my point.'

However the day I left retail and moved into a job where I don't have to deal with customers was one of the best days of my life. My stress and irritation levels have gone way down, and I will never ever work retail again. It is a hell that I have no desire to re-experience.

Whenever a cashier asks me how I'm doing I always reply good and ask them how they are. Most times they huff about a customer that came in before me, then I tell them to have a good day.

about a week ago I was in AMPM, and this lady was going off on this poor girl. Telling her how she should learn English. I was like damn.

So there's these free tickets for a museum we give away every month and there's huge demand and a few thousand tickets usually run out in under an hour and one time a guy called and told me that it was actually a huge conspiracy and you had to be on a list to get the tickets and he was going to complain to the museum's board of directors because he'd never gotten tickets and neither had any of his friends and obviously we weren't actually giving away tickets.

I used to make retarded ass PA things at Albertsons. I'd do my shill on the hour like I was suppose to, but throw in something extra. One day it was 'Visit the dairy box, we got eggs'. The Manger would come and just give me a funny look and walk away. Also, every other day was my brothers birthday, who worked in the Deli.

Our delivery trucks came on Mondays
    Sales ran Sunday through Saturday
People would come in at 7:30 on Saturday night, or later once we were open till 10, and demand to know why we were sold out of a sale item
    I dunno man
Maybe it's something to do with you waited until the sale was over to buy it

I will never shop at best buy again, they hire too many morons. I tried to buy a Wii and this girl said that they were getting some in stock on a sunday, so she checked on a store closer to me, and according to her, YES they were getting some in as well. So i go there on sunday,
"hey do you have any Wii's in stock?"
    "Let me check, yup!"
    "Sweet! gimme!"
    "Sure, uh, wait no."
    "Huh?"
    "We can't sell them yet"
    "WTF"
"Yeah, we have to wait until the ad comes out NEXT SUNDAY for the 11 Wii's we got in stock, because 'thats fair to everyone'"
"I hope you get super AIDS."

Man who the fuck cares if you get my $250 now, or next week...

i called best buy the day spore came out, to make sure they had it in stock so i could go buy it from them, the lady who answered said that yes, they did have it in stock, so i asked if they also had the galactic edition and she said 'oh no, not at all, only the normal one'

i go into the store, there is a huge table like 4 steps in with spore stuff piled on it, and a huge display and all of the galactic edition -_-

I occasionally will jump to a cashier's defence if a customer is being a particular brand of asshole, especially when they decide that threatening some poor sap who they happen to be bigger than is a good idea. I am 6'4" and about 205 lbs. There are not many people who are bigger than me, and I tend to defuse situations rather quickly.

Working retail for four years has given me a tremendous amount of sympathy for anyone who has to deal with customers on a regular basis.

i try to treat service reps the best i can, because my life is in their hands
and there's tricks to doing it right

you've gotta act helpless, start out with the assumption that it's their job to know what they are doing and they probably know more about it than you
even if you know exactly what the problem is, go in and act desperate and lost they can help you and feel important about their job
sometimes you can nudge them in the right direction if they seem lost, but let them figure it out on their own

because if your service rep is happy, you're happy

I tried to write "but that" and my hands naturally wrote "butt hat", which is vastly superior in every way.

I actually ended up getting a significant discount on a mattress I just bought because I was so friendly to the sales rep. She also added a note to my customer file saying 'customer is extremely nice, please accommodate pricing wherever possible'. It was pretty sweet.

that's fine if it's policy, but train your goddamn employees on the policy. Telling a customer you have something in stock but can't sell it to them is a good way to piss them off.

The last time I called a tech support line, the first guy I talked to had an accent so thick it sounded like he was talking around a mouthful of food
And he couldn't understand me, either
I was all set to rage about customer service should at least speak decent English by god when they transferred me to this dude with a very classy British accent
Got my shit straightened out for me in two minutes
I want that guy to be my tech support guy every time

    So...lie to a customer?
It sounds to me like they were trained on the policy, hence they told you "we can't sell it yet"

People love it when you're a nice / knowledgable customer. Several times my friends and I have gotten big discounts, extras, and other shit from head shops after spending like three hours in there discussing stuff with the people behind the counter.

No excuse for treating them like shit. Best Buy is one of the most ridiculous stores in North America for stupid policies that their employees are pretty much forced to follow. I once lost out on a raise because I didn't follow their sales policy to the letter (present clipboard, tell them the three main things about Best Buy that makes us different from our competitors, then present the sale in a very specific manner). If the store hadn't told them beforehand about not being able to sell the Wiis, it's not their fault, it's corporate, and they don't deserve to have it taken out on them.
