Games You'd Love to Run/Play In

A few that have been on my mind lately:

Mutantants & Masterminds DCU Animated or Marvel Ultimate Campaign. I'm a huge fan of the Justice League Unlimited cartoon and the whole animated universe that has been created starting with the Batman Animated series in the 90s. I came across a DCU Animated homebrew sourcebook for M&M and it sounds like a great idea for a campaign. The last couple of seasons of JLU did a great job of juggling the whole "episodic but with overarching plot elements" thing. Same thing goes for the Marvel Ultimate universe. It's a little less "crowded" than the regular Marvel Universe and there's a lot less history to contend with. Plus, I could finally create Ultimate Speedball...

Spycraft Alias/Sneakers/Mission Impossible Campaign. It'd be a bitch to come up with adventures that I'd be happy with as a DM, but I'd love to run missions that had a real "caper" feel to them with the characters having to plan and execute a complicated break-in/heist to steal whatever information/technology they're after. I like the different classes in Spycraft and it'd be cool to come up with missions that really give everyone in the group their moment in the spotlight.

Everyone must have at least a few "dream games" they'd like to be a part of either as players or DMs.

I'd love to take Acronym X into a M&M game. I don't really think it'd be all that awesome to play in an existing comic universe, though.

I want a decent/serious Shadowrun team. (similar to your Spycraft dream)

Or even some players with a decent knowledge of L5R's mechanics (not the dicerolling part, but the culture part)

Something as established as the "regular" Marvel Universe or the DCU could be restrictive, but the Ultimate Universe or animated DCU still have a lot of uncharted space to run around in.

I'm not too versed in the Dark Tower series, but what I've gathered from the bits I've seen in other books (like The Talisman and the first part of Hearts in Atlantis), that could be a pretty cool setting to play a game in.

An anti-heroes game, looking in the direction of the Nocturnals sourcebook for M&M 2.E

I've been wanting to run that for a LONG time. Something akin to Batman, but the characters have very minor abilities. I almost had that dream realized with a Hellboy GURPS game, but it never fully realized.

A good, gothic horror fantasy game. Ravenloft, preferably.

  • I would kill an innocent man to play in a well-run game of Kindred of the East/Demon Hunter X.

Fuck it. I'd be happy with a game of just about anything, but heres a few I'd love to try out:

1: the origional dragonlance modules, with a decent GM, and everyone willing to play the origional characters.

2: A proper game of 7th sea. I played a PBP game on a free form RP Forum and had a blast, but would honestly really appreciate an opportunity to play a real game with a genuine 7th character.

I'd love to play in a Darksun campaign. A DM who is very familiar with the setting would be required, and I'm a rather poor DM.

This is on my wish list too although I wonder how happy people would be playing the established characters through the established storyline. I think I'd rather roll up new characters that fit the storyline rather than actually playing as Tannis or Flint.

A friend of mine who used to work for Steve Jackson Games gave me a copy of the In Nomine Core Rules a few years back, but he moved to California before we got the chance to set up a game. I'd still like a chance to try out my Cherub of the Sword . . .

I say the orional characters, because there'd be a much smaller chance of the party being made up of min/maxed characters, there being several clerics (remember: this is supposed to be about the same time the gods are coming back), or a plethora of knights of solamnia (there 63 in ansalon during the war of the lance according to wiki) or other such idiocy.

Plus there wasa really good dynamic built in for the characters that was a little bit more evolved then "your all at the local inn when..."

I get where your coming from though, and if the folks weren't into making das uber slayer I'd love to give that a shot.

We tried to do this except it was more along the lines of that one Middleearth RPG on the consoles. You know where you're not really the main Fellowship, but you're pretty damn close and you're running parellel/right behind them?

Except our freakin Kinder was a jackass (the player, not the character. Everything had to be about that guy). Even our DM tried to make us similar to the original characters by having said Kinder feel fear. (Staring down a dragon tends to do that to anyone). Player would have none of it.

Anyway, yeah. Maybe a mature OWoD Hunter game would be on my list as well. No crossovers, just straight Hunters.

I have two: One is a super-hero game based on worlds like The Tick and Mystery Men; the players are working-class superheroes, relatively low-powered. I've actually already started running this kind of game, sort of, so I'm very excited.

The other is a Pulp Hero game, which I really wanted to run after seeing that sourcebook for the Hero system. It's Indiana Jones kinda stuff; finding priceless/powerful artifacts, flying biplanes, killing nazis. Fun stuff.

A pulp game would be a blast. I picked up that Hero system book a couple of weeks ago. I'd love to incorporate elements of the Crimson Skies universe into a pulp RPG game.

God, too many. The tops are

1.) Pretty much any Mutants & Masterminds game, I am so not picky when it comes to being soopar.

2.) A new World of Darkness Hunter. Not like the Reckoning in terms of divinity getting your back, but normal people who like Reckoning, find out that there are monsters in this world, and decide to do something about this fact. Kind of like an entire game of Bystanders. I'd also accept Hermit-like hunters, in that they can actively see the monsters, but the trade off is that they're bombarded with enough shit to drive them insane. New World of Darkness. No powers. Just regular mortals trying to kill timeless creatures.

3.) Any Paranoia game, I am so not picky when it comes to my desperation to play Paranoia.

This is going to sound really weird, but I think an Animorphs-style setting would be a very interesting game to play in, or run.

It's too bad that I'm the only one who'd ever be slightly interested in it.

Having never actually played a tabletop (I'm buying the DnD Basic Game tommorow, having the first game next week, your stories got me....particularly Axe's Pavel story.) I had an idea for a comic a while ago I posted it on the Ghost of GnT forums and a few people said it would make a good game so I'm gonna post it here and see if you'd think it'd be worth me attempting to make a campaign for it:

Ever since the dawn of man there has been a near infinite number of religons, myths, legends and gods. The Greeks, the Norse, the Egyptians, they all had their own gods and beliefs, and they all have died out, their gods with them.

But....What if the gods did not die? What if when their reign came to an end they assimilated into humanity, subtly guiding us in our lives. Some of our major historical figures were infact gods in disguise. Hitler? Ares. Benedict Arnold? Loki. George Washington.(I think he qualifies, but just barley) King Arthur.

For millenia there had been a balance between order and disorder, right and wrong, yin and yang. (I haven't figured out how yet, so....Let's go with H4XS for now.) The side of "evil" has found a way to break this tenuous truce. Forcing this world to become once more a world of epics, and legends. A world where gods once more walk the earth. A world of one last Odyssey.

That looks more like dark fantasy with the odd element or two drawn from a fairy tale. I'm not sure abot DeVry or NoSalt, but I've been thinking of something based more on the fairy tales themselves. Besides, the fact that all they say about the design is that it's not D20 for once makes me suspicious.

edit- It'll be released in a few months ago! Another nail in the coffin.

I'd love to play/run a crazy martial arts/fighting game RPG. I've been trying for forever to run one in the Thrash rules, and another in a DBZ world (with Thrash or a freeform style).

But finding good RPers that like DBZ is just as hard as finding fighting game fans that can sit through the multi-hour character creation of Thrash.

Oh Thrash, why am I the only one that loves you?

It's definitely creepy stuff. Kids drawn into a world of twisted fairy tales, trying to survive and find their way back home.

If you want something dark and creepy, D20 makes certain assumptions that don't make a whole lot of sense. You can put it in a dark and creepy setting, but unless you redesign it to the point that it really stops being D20, it will be more of a heroic game than anything. The 'life lesson' abilities only re-affirm this.

Big kudos to these guys for doing something original in the fantasy genre, though. It seems kinda similar to Labyrinth or [/i]Never Ending Story[/i] with the whole kid trapped in a scary fantasy land saves the day and learns a lesson thing. The stand-alone still worries me, which is sad because this is the sort of thing that, in my opinion, would really do better in it's own system than in D20. Delays tend to signal bad things (unless it's just printing in shipping nonsense), and it seems odd that they're big point about the system is that it isn't D20- it makes me worry that they may be more concerned with originality than quality.

That sounds pretty fucking cool actually. Lots of possibilities for a dark, Neil Gaiman-ish game.
Might wan't a different system though, D20 is fine for a fun killing-shit-and-take-their-loot game, but roleplaying-based sessions in a modern setting... not so much. I'd say you could check out All Flesh..., Kult or World of Darkness: Browse the core books in a store and see if any of 'em fits what you're looking for.
Or check the intarwebz, lots of pages out there that lists zounds of free systems (categorized, if you're lucky).

Last fall while my daughter was in the hospital I took advantage of Ebay and some online stores, and picked up a huge stack of Deadlands books. I've been a fan of Doomtown since it was around, and love the whole theme. I'd love to finally play a huskster or shaman.

Actually, I'd also love to find a local game of L5R, Shadowrun, WFRP, CoC, Hackmaster, Spycraft, or Warlord. Got a couple bookshelves worth of RPGs that have caught my eyes in the game store or half priced book store, but it seems all anyone I know in the DFW wants to play is D&D. It's the same with CCGs here. Rarely seems to be anyone wants to try anything outside of Magic/VS/Yugioh. I just live in the wrong metroplex to be a compulsive collector.

We did that once, too except that we did the whole Cataclysm thing. That was an absolute riot.

And I played the Kender. I was allowed the immunity to fear, but that's because I didn't exploit it. I played it more like the Kender just didn't recognize that this feeling was bad and just kind of dawdled around. I never stared down a dragon or anything (although I did steal from one). Our DM was really immersed in the DL setting, too. He knew all the major and minor characters, and he had us doing things like being a part of the Kingpriest's armies at the Towers of High Sorcery.

As far as games go that I'd love to run, I'd really love to run Fates Worse than Death, Over the Edge and I want to get a decent game of DL set in the Age of Mortals going, but my group doesn't want to put up with the weirdness of the AoM.

I'd like to play in just about anything that someone hasn't come through and dunderfucked the rules. One of the people in my group likes to "streamline" all the rules. Basically, he hates it when he's running a game and someone does something he can't or didn't prepare for. So now he basically has us play paper doll actors as he railroads us through a storyline. It's about as fun as slapping yourself in the face with a dead salmon.
