Colorado, which, imo, is a shadow of the team that dominated in the late 90's and early 2000's
It's true, it's true. Every year we say we'll rebuild and "Playoffs, here we come!" But every year.......yeah.

This year should be interesting, though, with so many "hard-nosed" players. Going for a rougher team, I suppose.

The Avs have no goal tending worth speaking of. Its going to be a rough year for them. Unless they trade for Khabbibulin maybe. Chicago doesn't need him and they need to move his salary.

Goaltending has always been a rough spot for us since the glory days of Patrick. When we got Raycroft everyone here was kind of like, "Really?" I mean, Budaj has his hot streaks, and when he is on he is really on, but then he'll go cold for three games.

But at any rate, like I said, I'm very excited to see our new look this year. Much more physical play is expected, with the likes of Ledin, the two Cody's and Tucker. Maybe take some of the pressure off of Laperriere, and hopefully we won't be manhandled like we have been the past two seasons.

Mcleod is one of the most fun players to watch play ever. He might not be great but goddamn is he entertaining.

Also I really hope they play Cuminskey more. He had such signs of promise but needed more time in the oven. Hopefully he's a bit more balanced now.

People are poo-pooing the Avs, but they have a lot of young talent like David Jones, TJ Hensick, and I've been hearing some good (and bad) things about Chris Stewart.

And apparently Jason Bacashihua is outplaying both Budaj and Raycroft in training camp. Take that for what you will. :| I would love to have the Bulin Wall on the Avs.

I'm not expecting a lot from them this year but I think people are really underestimating them. Last year was an abysmal year in terms of injury and they still managed to have a moderately successful season. As long as they stay healthy and they get the goalie situation figured out (yeah yeah, I know it's a lot to ask) they should be okay.

From what I hear, Cumiskey has bulked up, like by 20 pounds. As in, muscle bulked. He was one of the fastest skaters in the West last year and the year before, and now he's supposed to be a speedier, beefier skater..

David Jones was looking very good last year, and I also enjoy McLeod. McCormick is good too, but McLeod is the better of the Cody's. Chris Stewart has some serious talent, but from what I've been hearing, he has little discipline and needs to mature. So I'm not sure about him.
And apparently Jason Bacashihua is outplaying both Budaj and Raycroft in training camp.

I had not heard this. Interesting, very interesting.

Look out for Ledin this year, from Sweden. He's supposed to be entertaining and a high-energy player.

And hot-damn, my first game from my 14 game pack is October 9th against Boston. Can't wait.

The Wild have lost one of their best goal scorers (Rolston) and haven't done much to replace those points, IMO.

It's not going to be a great season, lowlighted with Gaborik getting moved before the trade deadline. Ugh.

I've hated the Sens for years, since the Leafs were beating them in the first round year after year after year. it's part of being a Leafs fan.

The Sens are a better team now, and have been for a while, I'll admit that. Just gives me another reason to hate them.

OK, I have my first hockey draft of the season tonight and I am not prepared at all. Suggestions?

I plan on picking two goalies in the first four rounds. This is a keeper league too, so there is even more pressure on me to pick well.

Yea, that's gonna really hurt the pens even strength. They'll put Malkin on the point on the PP, so that will actually probably be better, but they're still in trouble on the blueline without him.

They should me more concerned with just getting into the playoffs, nevermind deep.

Luongo will be back east as soon as his deal is up at the end of the 2009/2010 season for sure. I'm sure he'll have a contract signed at like, 12:01am on July 1. His family is still down east, he didn't really want to move out west to begin with.

I think the Sedins will both sign 4 year deals with the Canucks, hope they look like they'll improve, and if not, will bolt after that deal is up.

So once again with 10 days before the season I have my irrational hope that the Panthers will make the playoffs. We are set in goal with Vokoun and Anderson and we have around 17 D including some actual GOOD defencemen in Boumeester, Ballard, McCabe and Allen. Now all they need is Horton, Weiss, Booth, Olesz, Matthias, Frolik, Stewart, Kreps to take a step forward in their development. And for Zednik to come back healthy from almost dying on the ice.

Yeah. So there might be a couple of questions up front. But Washington has Theodore in net, Tampa is going to try and play 5 forwards on the ice at all times, Atlanta doesn't look good and Carolina doesn't look any better than last year so there is a window of opportunity here in the Southeast.

If not they trade Bouwmeester for more young pieces and in 3 years we will be a beast of a team. I'm just happy they have a sole AHL team this year.

Luongo's wife was back in Florida (where she is from) last year only because she was going through a complicated pregnancy and wanted to be close to her family. His family is here in Vancouver now. If he didn't really want to come to Vancouver, he wouldn't have signed a four year contract here after the trade.

Sure, there's a chance that he'll move back to the Eastern conference, but its hardly automatic. How the team does this season is probably much more of a factor than location. And the season pretty much rides on his shoulders with the team talking about playing a more up tempo system.

Well it's why they play the games. I think not having Jacques behind the bench instantly makes them a better team since their forwards will actually cross the red line to go in the offensive zone, not to make line changes in the 2nd period.

I really don't see the Panthers making the playoffs. At most, probably two teams from the Southeast could make it, and Washington, Tampa and Carolina are superior teams to the other two. Yes, Washington has Theodore in net, but he turned his career around last year, if he keeps it up they won't have a noticeable drop off in goal tending quality from Huet.

  • roywhitbyroywhitby Registered User regular

Remember guys I said my hope in the Panthers is completely irrational. They only missed the playoffs by 3 or 4 wins last year and I think with a new approach and better seasons from their forwards plus their already good goaltending and what is potentially a top 5 D in the league could make up those wins. There is always one team that makes the playoffs that no one expects. Why not the Panthers this year?

No one expected Montreal to make the playoffs last year, or Carolina to make the playoffs the year they won the Cup. I'm not saying the Panthers are going to finish 1st in the East or win a Cup but they should be gunning for the Southeast division this year. And if they crash and burn, they crash and burn. I just want them to have some real expectations this year for once.
