    I don't understand the Canucks.

They blow out the Flames 6-0, and then two games later GET blown out by Washington 5-1?

First Eastern road trip of the year, and the coach changed a winning line up for no discernible reason.

The Habs looked downright dominant for large chunks of tonights game. And the Ducks being winless so far amuses me greatly.

You're leaving out the fact that Washington is fucking awesome. ;)

Seriously though, other than the weird loss at Atlanta, the Caps have been scoring goals like crazy. Of course tonight we have the awesome Ovechkin/Crosby match up. You know, the one that every single person I met made fun of me for saying Ovechkin was better, and the media gave Syd handjobs everytime he took a dive, and then in the end Ovechkin totally wiped the floor with him, and the Pens fans gradually went "Well....Malkin is better anyways."

    Yeah. Bring it on, Pittsburgh.

Ovechkin wiped the floor with Sid while losing, what, 7 of the last 9 games between the two teams?

And, yes, Malkin is better than Crosby. Always has been, and always will be.

Better at scoring goals yes, but I would say that both Malkin and Ovechkin (less so) don't have those intangibles that a truely great hockey player has. For example, I would never name Malkin or Ovi captain.

And this is from someone who hates Crosby, seriously, fuck him.

Ovechkin definatley has those intangibles, and will make a great captain someday. He was actually offered Captainship and declined it, because he felt his English wasn't good enough yet to actually effectively communicate, and nominated Clark. He's got that amazing ability to just make every single player around him better, just with his natural instinct. Players like Brooks Laich, Thomas Fleishmann, Boyd Gordon -- all of them has seen massive improvements in their productivity just by getting on the ice with him.

And the best part of Ovechkin by far is that he doesn't need anyone to come and protect him. That guy can take it, and dish it out, and then score.

    I love watching the Leafs.

They don't have defence. They have pure fucking blind luck. In a span of 2 minutes, NYR hit 3 Leaf goalposts.

Whoah, overtime penalty coming to NYR!

Did you guys know that you can watch certain games online @ yahoo?

I just learned this yesterday and it's pretty fucking sweet since I don't think we get shit for game service in Kansas.

5 seconds into the start of the game and the Leafs take a penalty. Come on guys, you're slowing down.

Yay Detroit won a home game finally. Also: Hossa got his first goal after being snakebit for a little while. Yay.

My cousin made this game: Gem Pop. It's legitimately fun, particularly for people who enjoy Bejewled, Dr. Mario, Tetris, etc. kinds of games. Only two bucks! If you try it out, PM me with what you think of it.

Whoa. CTV is running a report that the NHL is seriously considering adding a second NHL team to Toronto. On the one hand, yay not a new team in states which don't know what snow is!

On the other hand, we don't need competition in not winning the Stanley Cup. Get your own city for a losing record!

That would be really, really stupid.

Doesn't Toronto already have an NHL AND an AHL Team?

Much as I'd like the Jets to return, I just don't think that Winnipeg has the population or money to support an NHL team. IIRC, their ticket sales weren't great back in the mid 90's, and tickets now are going to cost way more than they did back then. Also, the new arena they built is too small.

The only way I see Winnipeg ever happening is if the Asper's decide they want a team.

I could have sworn it was bigger, but yeah I just looked it up and Wikipedia says the capacity is just over 15,000. That is way too small. That's the reason they're building a bigger arena in Edmonton.

Winnipeg, Hamilton, Quebec, I really don't care where they put. Just don't give a city two teams when there are markets out there that would love to have an NHL team and could support them. It almost like Toronto is trying to be like New York. First they step up their efforts in the area of gun crime, and now this.

    Yeah...

Either the defense really sucks or Luongo sucks. The offense is fine this year, but they're just letting in too many goals!

What's sad is that if the Canucks suck this year then Luongo is probably gone. Overrated or not, it will be really, really hard to replace him with someone decent.

So the Panthers are 3-3 after winning in Ottawa last night. I'm fine with this. They are a lot more fun to watch this year since they actually attack the other team. Here's hoping they can keep playing well, stay in the chase until Christmas or so and then have their usual good Feb. and Mar.

    They... they try hard.

Well, they are the youngest team in the league. It's too bad they suck so they're never on TV in Canada. There's a chance they'll still make the playoffs this year. Not a great one, but it exists.

Just got back from the Coyotes vs. Capitals, the first game I've ever attended. Hell of a lot of fun, especially since the home team won (even if they're the slow kid at recess). Some highlights:

*The puck blew apart in the first period. I used to watch a lot of hockey but I don't think I ever seen it happen. And it was down by the goal I was sitting behind.

*Seeing Ovechkin get laid the fuck out in the third period.

*All three goals were in the goal I was sitting behind, so lots of action all night.

Wait, so the puck like, broke? I've never seen that before in my life.

Also, my Oilers I think are starting to feel the horrible fucking schedule they have at the beginning. After a horrible effort wednesday in Chicago they played really well for the first half of the game against Colorado before the wheels completely fell off for the last half.

I have seen a roller hockey puck bust apart, I don't ever recall an ice hockey puck though. Although, I might have seen one chipped here or there in my day.

Is it weird that I am more interested in my fantasy hockey players doing well than wanting the Flyers to win? I am in four fantasy hockey leagues (3 yahoo, 1 espn). I have only ever done yahoo leagues up until this year. I am completely obsessed with the ESPN league and don't even care about the others. I don't know what it is. I can sit there all night and stare at the updating ESPN scoreboard.

It broke in half. The best part was then two players tried to play the two halves for a few seconds before the refs figured out something was wrong.

My fantasy team did well tonight.

Stillman, Samuelsson, Weber, Rozsival, and Vokoun did me right. Tkachuk, well, decided to stop his goal streak.

Not NHL, but my local ECHL team had its home opener tonight. I had almost forgotten how bad refereeing can get. Not that the outcome of the game was decided by the refs or that it was particularly one sided, but it was just completely horrible. I was actually impressed when the ref stopped the opposition from making a line change after icing the puck.

Good ol' ECHL - it took the locals two years to work their way up to being a farm team for the AHL.

I think someone threw a stink bomb on the ice or something at the Flyers game. There was something thrown on the ice and there was fog and shit happening. Oh well. Carter got an awesome deflection for the OT winner.

Someone actually threw something on the ice though. Apparently it smelled pretty bad down there and made its way up to the announcers booth.
