Ubisoft game prices

Something that I've noticed at some of the video games stores in Sydney, is that upcoming video games by ubisoft, namely Far Cry2 and Prince of Persia, are slightly cheaper than most other upcoming games at the moment and from previous occaisions. It's only by about $10, these games being $90, most being 100 (although Fallout 3 is 120). I was wondering if this was the case in the us and the uk. If anyone's noticed ubisoft being slightly cheaper. Thanks

Ubisoft create and publish their own games reducing the middle man on costs.

Games over in Australia are still ridiculously priced anyway. $120 for a PS3 game? No thanks.

It's called the 'having the better beaches' tax. And it's a pc game. Most console games are over $100 though. And its not so bad once you get used to it.

Shouldn't the "having the better beaches" tax be mostly countered by the "Everything is poisonous except some of the sheep" rebate?

Seriously, is there any kind of exchange rate between Australia and the US, or is that $120 given the exchange rate?

I just could not imagine spending anywhere close to $100 on a video game unless it was Rock Band/Guitar Hero.

Ouch, so they're still on average $17 more expensive there than here. More tolerable, but still too high for me.

lol, Guitar hero WT is $330 here at EB.

    288 at another place.

We laugh in the face of danger and extremely poisonous death machines. And its everything is dangerous except some of the sheep. Which makes things slightly easier. It's a bit easier to wrestle 10m crocodile without having to worry about its poison giving us nasty rashes.

It's because of a lack of competition between markets or something. Which is a shame, because a vast amount of the world's games workers come from Australia.

Yeah, it isn't too bad though. JB hi fi is pretty cheap. Like $79 a game. Not that bad.

We always have playasia too if we cbf paying that high.

shit, brb, my pet kangaroo has gone walkabout to wurandidji!

Jb is the only place I buy now, they always have copies and are cheaper ($79) as opposed to $120

The enemy of my enemy is my cannon-fodder, we are NOT friends.

match JB's price at EB, that way you get the 7 day return policy :) pretty good way to do things imo.

I'm through paying Oztax on games. EB and GAME can suck my meaty one. I get all my gear from Play Asia.

Not that this has a ton to do with anything mentioned here, but Ubisoft is also doing something wicked bad-ass and upgrading all pre-orders of Far Cry 2 and Prince of Persia to the limited edition, rather than charging an extra $10 -$20 for it.

Now if only they'd polish most of their PC ports a little more before rushing them out the gate.

  • mooshoeporkmooshoepork Registered User
wtf? really? I was going to pre-order the ltd FC2 to get the bag.

    Are you in the US?

It might only be here in the states. Then again, the ltd edition for the rest of the world has a lot more stuff.

Including a bad ass crate-styled wooden box that the US version probably won't get.

  • mooshoeporkmooshoepork Registered User
Aight, as far as I can tell. the ltd edition has:

a wooden box, that seems to be made out of cardboard, a making of, a map, a tshirt, and an art book. If you pre-order at EB, you get a nice bag and a drink bottle, that seems to be made out of metal. The bag is nice.
    Spoiler:

edit: From the land down under mate.

The bag looks like a plastic water canteen. Though I may be looking at the wrong offer.

Yeah, I'm not sure. The bag looks okay too. Hard to tell the quality though. I'm on the fence.

Yeah, that definitely looks like a standard plastic water canteen that you can get from camping stores, or my school's cadet corps.

Us Americans get a fancy box that may or may not be the wooden one, some bonus missions that are most likely in the PAL SE as well, the cloth map (which may or may not be made of cloth for us), the making of disc (I think), and the art book (I think; it may possibly be abridged for the US).

The Prince of Persia SE has a small art book, a making of disc, a soundtrack disc, and a holographic case.

  • mooshoeporkmooshoepork Registered User
well, at once pre-order place you get the bag and bottle, at another you get 4 "exclusive" missions...doesn't seem to make much sense.

edit: can only find "pre-order" prince of persia to get a making off dvd and artwork. Seems to come in a fancy case too. No mention of it being LTD. Maybe we are getting bumped up?

I didn't know that was out so soon too.

edit: this catalogue says it's out nov 1, but the wiki says December?
