Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

I like circuses and I like flying. If only we could combine the two.

Holy shit look at this damn thing

Look at it!

MPFlyingCircus_ComplColl.jpg

"WARNING: TOXIC JOCULARITY ENCLOSED. Inside this decorative carton lurk four seasons of Monty Python's Flying Circus, two NEW-to-DVD documentaries, two Monty Python LIVE performances, and six "Personal Best" compilations. The whole great mess - Spam tins, parrot carcasses, blancmanges, and all - has been safely digitized, compressed into microscopic "funny bits," pressed onto 21 shiny discs, and sealed within this whimsy-proof receptacle.

SO DON'T OPEN IT! All right, if you must. But beware: there's new material you can't repeat verbatim (yet). "Before the Flying Circus" employs rare vintage footage to explore the influences that shaped six young lunatics into the world's most innovative comedy troupe, while "Monty Python Conquers America" documents their tremendous, yet astonishingly unlikely, American success. The six "Personal Best" collections present the best sketches and songs, as selected, arranged, and hosted by the individual Pythons themselves. And, of course, "Monty Python Live" shows what happens when absurd TV sketches are inflicted on live audiences. Now stop reading and put a disc in your DVD machine. This bloody box of buffoonery can't watch itself.

BEFORE THE FLYING CIRCUS presents an inside look at how Monty Python was born and features interviews with the Pythons, rare personal photos, home movies, University era cast recordings and much more.

MONTY PYTHON CONQUERS AMERICA chronicles the Troup's meteoric rise from its humble U.S. beginnings to changing the face of comedy as the Yanks knew it! Hank Azaria, Judd Apatow, Jimmy Fallon, Carl Reiner, David Hyde Pierce, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and many others iscuss how Monty Python changed their lives.

DVD Features Include:
  • Weblink to PythonShop.com
  • Meet the Chaps
  • Pythonism Glossary
  • Gillianimations Art Gallery
  • Preview Upcoming Episodes
  • Troupe Career Highlights
  • Post-Python Troup Highlights

  • Behind the Scenes of John Cleese's Personal Best
  • Terry Gilliam's Featurette "A Retrospective of Python's Animation"
  • Personal Second-Best Featurettes from Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin
  • Six 15-Question, 15-Ton Megaquizzes

For sale on November 18th, but you can preorder the whole damn thing on Amazon for 105 dollars.

That's like 5 dollars a disk

Monty Python is hit or miss.

This world is a dark, dark forest. And if you open up a man, and look into most of their hearts, you'll find disgust and evil. Your own parents, your mother and father, would slit your throat just to get ahead. And when you find a wife, you watch her. And you don't believe a single word that she says. Because, at the core, people are shit.

I've always wondered why something that is considered a British institution never appears on TV anymore except in shows titled "Remember comedy in X year" or "Top 100 X". There is probably a reason but I'll be arsed if I'm gonna go digging for it.

One thing that I have been wondering is why is Python thought of as a nerdy thing in the US?

probably because they lived through it and it's like 'i dream of jeannie' reruns in the US

because of the type of people who praise its genius and quote it incessantly

Oh right yeah. Well I'd go along with that except there is a bad habit, especially of late for older shows to get rerun constantly that aren't too disimilar. MPFC is actually that funny anyway except for some choice scenes.

I used to be able to get old tapes of Flying Circus from the library and I think the first time I ever saw an episode was a sunday afternon on PBS when I was like 10.

The first time I ever saw anything Monty Python was at a friend's birthday party (his parents were from England) and we watched Hollywood Bowl. It was amazingly funny, I will be buying this.

*Edit I was expecting a FAMILY circus thread, this is much better.

okay a lot of that monty python stuff can seem pretty dated, but really the show has a large amount of the best sketches ever done on TV

too much monty python analysis going on

  • Bob The MonkeyBob The Monkey Registered User regular
monty python is horrendously overrated. except life of brian and the holy grail, which are only mildly overrated.

    it just isn't very good

covering-my-ass-edit: i appreciate that it's very important, groundbreaking and trendsetting. except when the trend that came before you (peter cook and dudley moore) is considerably funnier than the one you're setting, that doesn't count for much.

zweiten edit: this, you see, has me in tears.
