Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

-> Find your name on the list below. If it is not there, then we have a problem! PM me as soon as you can!

-> Wait for a PM from me providing your Santee's information. I should have them all sent out by EOD 10/21. If you do not receive one, then (again) we have a problem! PM me as soon as you can!

-> Forum stalk your Santee! Do not ACTUALLY stalk him! This is as far as I know illegal and I will testify against you in a court of law.

-> Buy your Santee a present! The goal here is to make your Santee as happy as possible! Challenge yourself to find out what s/he likes and send an appropriate gift of happiness!

-> Ship your present to your Santee! Double, triple and quadruple check the address, and make sure your package has a return address! Also leave a note telling your Santee who you are so he knows who to thank!

-> Receive a gift from your very own Santa!
**************
EMAIL ME WHEN YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR GIFT (email address: gandtsecretsanta@gmail.com)
**************
This is a new step. This saves me a load of time later on, so please do it!

-> Post pictures of your haul! The more pictures, the better!
This is a good example of a great picture post!
getdropbox.com, imageshack.us, photobucket.com, and flickr.com all provide free picture hosting so you have no excuse!

SHIPPING TIPS

HOLY SHIT I GOT SOMEONE FROM A DIFFERENT COUNTRY
There should be a section in the OP called:

Q: How I ship outside US of A
A: United States Postal Service (USPS)

Really, it's the best if you're looking to not pay $60 for shipping. The proper customs forms are on the website, the post office has the proper plastic window guys to put the forms on the boxes. The package will get there and you won't have to sell your organs.
By the way, if you are sending a gift from the US to another country, if you mark on the package that it is a "gift," your receiver avoids paying taxes on stuff when it arrives. This is the case for a lot of the stuff that I have bought from Asia. Nothing is more annoying than having to pay for your gift. :(

These people speak truth! (and thanks to whomever else provided this info) Be sure and use USPS and be sure and MARK IT AS A GIFT!

CAN I SHIP SOMETHING STRAIGHT FROM AMAZON OR SOMETHING?
Yes you can, and it's a good idea to shop at the Santee's home country's Amazon site (www.amazon.ca for instance) if you want to save a bit on shipping. Be sure and provide a note upon checkout saying who you are, though!

BE SURE AND SHIP WELL IN ADVANCE
Get your act together NOW and try and ship your stuff by Dec 10th or so to make sure it arrives before the crazy Christmas rush that always happens at the latter half of December.

SHOPPING TIPS

Interesting Shops:
www.thinkgeek.com - general geeky stuff. Shipping can be high so be sure and shop around. Google for discount coupons.
www.play-asia.com - junk from Japan. Nearly everyone likes the little toys they have. Google for discount coupons.
www.buy.com - one of the best places to get used games, books and DVDs.
www.square-enix-shop.com - for that Final Fantasy or RPG fan.
www.bigbadtoystore.com - the absolute best place to get action figures.

Things to Note:
360 points are not cross-country compatible.
Most consoles are region restricted. The Nintendo DS is a notable exception to this, though.

Stalking / General Shopping Help:
If your Santee has a unique forum handle, be sure and Google it. You never know where else s/he might post.
Keep an eye on the systems he owns if you're thinking of buying a game.
If your Santee has a PS3, don't forget it can play Blu-Ray movies.
If your Santee has a XBox Gamer ID, it's not hard to figure out what games he has / likes.
Be creative! We have lives other than video games! Is your Santee taking up an instrument? Does he want to start painting? Does he like tabletop games? Does he seem to like cars? This is your chance to get an interesting gift they hadn't thought of, yet!
Does your Santee have a favorite game, ever? Consider something related to that! Toys, old complete copies, art books, etc. are always fun.
Do you have something in your city / state / country that your Santee doesn't have access to?
Interesting candies, foods, posters / prints, and other various knick-knacks make for good box-stuffers.
If your Santee has a unique name, you never know what you'll find out by Googling him or her! They might have a twitter account or something!

If you need to contact your Santee through a Santa Proxy, the following forumers have provided their proxy services:

FireWeasel
Wezoin

On the one hand, I can probably gather up some awesome swag. Also, depending on the price, I can probably also track down some games that are a pain in the ass to find without resorting to eBay prices. Plus, I don't normally get Christmas gifts from my ... well anyone.

On the other hand, I really don't have a lot of time outside of school and work.

    Decisions, decisions...

Edit: I also still have never found out who sent me a bunch of DVDs two years ago. I gave City of Villains last time, but I can't remember to whom either.

True, I hadn't considered such. I'm not sure if it's worth worrying about unless we have username collision.

So uh, when you sign up, post in this thread! Step added to the OP!

If I do end up joining this, something tells me I'm going to get a box and a pen. For the record, I want neither. Unless the box is full of awesome and the pen is made of solid gold.

Oh ho ho. So begins the fun of Secret Santa-ing!

That said I'm a classic video game collector. Atari-era through N64-era. I own 28 consoles including handhelds and duplicates (yet I still don't have a 32x or Sega CD). I find most of my stuff in garage sales.

I love Final Fantasy and Nintendo (Zelda and Mario mostly). I do not have an XBox 360, and I just bought (it hasn't even arrived yet) a PS3 just so I can play Resident Evil 5 when it comes out, but other than that I'm not sure what to do with it until then (other than watch Iron Man on Blu-Ray over and over again).

    I like hand-crafted stuff.

I have all the Penny-Arcade books I can handle :P

Yeah, I need to avoid PMs as much as possible, because they get full very quickly and signing up through the form auto-puts things into my spreadsheet, which is less room for error.

I'll PM confirmation though no problem, in case someone decides to sign up under someone else's name in the form.

edit: and I can PM the Santee information, too, if that's the preferred way of doing things. I'm impartial to that.

Maybe I should describe what I like? Red and sparkly stuff, pens with glitter and fluff that light up (no-one pinches them at work!), love home made things, diamonds (no, really!)(kidding). I can't use most game controller thingies, but can use the DS stick thingy. I LOVE Portal, but am slow at it (don't care, I've completed it all by myself). I like books (even though they're gay). I like fair trade stuff.

Liquidlogan will definitely get a box and pen from me! Or maybe a painting of a box and pen. Anyone else will get a painting and some other stuff (except Lewie, who will get coal)(if he's lucky).

Signed up. My santee is going to get an awesome gift that I already have lined up. I put a little bit of shipping information in the 'address' box for my santa because I'll be in America until new years so I need it shipped elsewhere I hope that's ok.

Also, because of this I can confirm the gift has arrived but not post images of it until like the 5th January. But as soon as it arrived I will confirm that my santa is not deadbeat but I cant open it (even after christmas day) for a while.

Cause of this I'll be an Easter Bunny no worries.

Oh right, might as well start dropping tips early on so I don't forget later on.

I'm cool with books, DVDs, and games. I have a DS, a 360, and my PC. I enjoy graphic novels like "The Watchmen" (which I own) and other Marvel prints (most of which I do not own). I'm a nerd for music but I prefer not to get a music related gift, I have plenty to work with for now. My shirt size is XL. Uh...what else...
