Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
If that woman's cleavedge made one more person pick the game up off the shelf, it was a net positive for microprose. And to be blunt, if taking her top off could have increased sales enough to get a sequel, I'd endorse it 100000% because I like playing great games.
I will admit that scary video games scare the piss out of me much more so than movies. For me it's
video games>literature>movies
Literature makes me paranoid. Movies can be a little tense and are damn fun/entertaining but with video games i'm sleeping with the lights on clutching a baseball bat hoping to make it til morning.
Fatal Frame II scared me so much that I gave that sum-a-bitch away. Recently I got drunk and installed silent hill 3. It was all good until I started to sober up then I realized the error of my ways. Even when there's a pause screen I expect something to ruin my day. It's awful.

I thought the first Saw was pretty much shit. That's why I find it incredibly odd that I've enjoyed them since then. I guess maybe I just got past the idea that they were going to have some neat twist or actual horror in them, and realized they were just pretty much torture porn popcorn movies.

The twist are just m night with a slight basis in reality.
lol he was there the whole time but you would have had no way of knowing that. AREN'T WE CLEVER !?
No.
But look at how gorey this is! Plus this trap is brilliant. You can live if you...EAT YOUR OWN FACE. WOW I BET YOU NEVER EXPECTED US TO GO THAT FAR DID YOU?
blah.
Only the first movie pulls a deus ex on you, the others have twists that are great, but you can figure out if you're paying attention.
Spoiler one or two of them for me. I end up raging so hard while I watch the Saw movies that I black out bits and pieces.
Saw 2
Spoiler:
takes place over 2 timelines, but most people (including the cops in the movie) think it's all happening at once and to a lesser extent, the chick from the first movie is in on it.
Saw 3
Spoiler:
is about a grieving father who must save those around him. Most people don't realize that the woman with the shotgun collar keeping Jigsaw alive is married to the man. Not to mention that the whole basis of the 3rd film was to test his accomplice over the man & wife.
Saw 4
Spoiler:
The big reveal of Saw 4 is that its timeline runs concurrent with that of Saw 3, whereas the opening scene of the movie makes you think it is a sequel, when in fact, it isn't.

I was kind of hoping I didn't see at least one of the saw movies...oh well.
Still there's fuckall when it comes to clues. The mystery aspect comes from things that you could not possible know and that the characters could not deduce.
tension + gore + a surprise = saw
You could just as easily come up with a good Saw movie as these guys.
Fatal Frame II scared me so much that I gave that sum-a-bitch away.
It's also very sad. I loved Fatal Frame 2.
My final moment with the game was when I ended up shitting a house showing one of my friends how to play. I thought I was in a safe room so I was explaining the controls and everything. . .
"Okay so when you need to take a picture of a ghost you have to bring out your camera, you just press R2 like thi...HOLY FUCK OH GOD WHAT THE HELL OH SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT KILL IT FUCK WHAT THE HELL IS THAT OH MY GOD OH MY GOD "
That's not true, I figured out Saw 3 and 4 on my own, before the big reveals.
I'll admit that I didn't give them my full attention since I was anything but enthusiastic when watching so I can't debate you on that. I can understand 3 but what tipped you off to 4?

See, that's the problem with most of the people who go see the movie, or hate it.
They won't pay attention to the plot, or how it interweaves between the other movies.
And many of the people who see the movies, don't know what the hell is going on, so they tune out the story and just go for the visuals.
Actually, the twists at the end of the movies are done quite well, Hostel has nothing to do with Saw and was written by Eli Roth before the first was released, and only in Saw 3 were some of the traps uvwinable.
But hey, I don't think I could change your mind.
I admit to bias since Jigsaw is just so adept at avoiding police whether it be in the first one where he was caught and escaped in a horribly stupid fashion or the beginning of the second with the lame ass traps there.
And in the third one with the dumbass husband who never thought to question what the hell the device around his wife's neck was before killing the only guy who knew.
Whoops.
The whole point of the 3rd movie was that the husband was a rage-filled d-bag and only thought about himself.
Not to mention that the other things you mentioned are straight up opinion.
Well of course it's opinion, I'm not trying to argue facts.
But really the husband was such a rage-filled d-bag yet he continually tried to save the people he felt wronged him, and even got one out before he was killed in a lame fashion.

It is very hard to fight rage black outs. Also I edited my posted from before, what tipped you off in Saw 4?

Not only was there a severe lack of cops in the 3rd movie
Spoiler:
Kerry dies right away and Matthews is only in it a little bit
and the 4th movie was purely about the police made some ssense to me. Not to mention when they find
Spoiler:
Kerry's
dead body, a coroner assistant says it's been there for only a few days.
Other bits, like when
Spoiler:
Hoffman is holding a teddy bear and about to leave the office and is asked if he has a daughter, he replies "No. It's a short story, believe me." Now, there was a kidnapped girl in Saw 3. It just sent alarm bells through my head.
They have a reunion party, featuring everyone from every Saw movie.
I would watch this if there was cake. And unicorns.

I disagree. My problem with the SAW series is that after the first movie the plots were garbage and they were basically gore pornography.
The problem with people who don't like what I like is that they are stupid, or aren't paying attention.

spectre, I'm not gonna read your response until morning, but are the plot threads and twists in the Saw movies detailed on the respective wiki pages? you've got me interested, I'll admit.

I can respect your decision to enjoy the series. Unfortunately most folks don't share your validity.
Since she's Japanese, she enjoyed doing Sadako impressions every time she got out of the shower and shitting me up.
She enjoyed Audition greatly and kept going 'kiri-kiri-kiri' at inopportune moments for quite some time after.
Yeesh.

They're not, especially the first one.
Everyone seems to think that the 1st Saw was really gory, when it actually had very little.

1 was alright, 2 sucked.
I would watch 1 again, but only if I had to.
I am not a fan of horror movies, though, and my then-girlfriend was always trying to get me to watch them.
Wait nevermind I don't know any ladies.
