With this year's elections done and dusted, I'm jonesin' for some political intrigue and have settled on reading up on the (rather contentious) US presidential election of 2000.
Is there a defining text on this subject? If so, please recommend it, along with any other books on the same topic worth reading.
Too Close to Call, by Jeffrey Toobin, is probably the standard. It's written in a journalistic ticking-clock style, and is relatively objective. The HBO movie Recount was based largely on Toobin's book.
There's some good info in The Nine (also by Jeffrey Toobin) that deal with the decisions made by the Supreme Court regarding this election. Although the book as a whole doesn't deal solely with the election.
