The Really Quite Reasonably Sized [Punk] Thread

Because the only Punk thread I can find in D&D is for '07.

So I've always been a fan of punk or ska-punk music, but I've never gone to what I'd call a good punk concert. It was always some scrubby shit my sister would drag me to so my parents would let her go.

So when I went to the Star Fucking Hipsters (listen to Two Cups of Tea, it's a better example of their music) concert, my mind was pretty much blown. That a band could be good, and that I would be at a concert to that band and not millions of yards in the back was a really weird concept to me. SFH is a really good band, though you need to get in the mood to listen to Until We're Dead.

Another one of their songs--
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_NntmN1C98

However, to some degree the real gem of the concert (mostly from the unexpectedness of it, I had already known SFH was pretty good from the friend who told me where they were playing) was BIG Attack (Fascism and Get it Together my suggestions here). They're a far easier band to listen to, and the vocalist's voice, though I couldn't hear it in the concert over the guitar and bass, is what you'd get if Joey Ramone and Elvis Costello had a baby.

Starfucking Hipsters are pretty cool - I really liked Leftover Crack and especially Choking Victim. Good stuff.

Propagandhi finished their new album the other day. Really excited to hear that.

    Huh.

    I did not know this.

I really liked Leftover Crack and Choking Victim as well.

I missed a NOFX concert in Baltimore because of my stupid god-damned job. :(

They probably won't come back to the east coast for like three years.

I would find that acceptable considering the what is/isn't punk argument is annoying anyway.

Someone's going to flip out at you considering Blink 182 punk.

    That shit was fun.

I can think of few punk shows I went to that weren't hella fun. Even when the band wasn't that great. Never actually went to a Blink show, but a buddy had bootlegged a couple and damn, did it at least sound like it was a shitload of fun.

Just to give this thread a chance, I'll go ahead and admit I was kidding about the Blink 182 thing. I mean, they do have some songs I like and I used to listen to them, but I was mostly blue-dotting and seeing if I could bring out and identify the punk snobs early. I think this would be beneficial to the long-term health of the thread..

EDIT: Oh, and you're doing it wrong. NOFX concerts are something you quit your job for. What, you've never heard of calling in sick?

Depends. Do you listen to them from a boot leg cassette screaming from a mono speaker while you jam nails into your eyes, or are you a sellout?

I don't listen much to punk per se, but Paint It Black and Das Oath are great. PiB are fucking cockteasers though, playing their awesome riffs (there's many) in each song for about 8 secs.

    just gonna put these here

    Why, those were excellent choices.

They also led to a fun "six degrees of YouTube separation" game I just played, by clicking some of the "related videos" (and then further down into videos related to those).

I wound up on an absolutely absurd video of Social D from like 1980.

That must have been back when Target was all cool and underground and shit. Back before Career Opportunities, when they sold out and went mainstream.

And hey, I like me some Dead Boys.

Speaking of songs that would eventually be covered.

Or, if you want to be able to hear it worth a damn...

Though I guess this particular song is a little less punk.

Hey, aren't punk songs supposed to be short?

These guys didn't get the memo.
    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

Though I don't think the song proper starts until like halfway through part one.

I would come up with a big analogy about how you can only have five fans and live out of a van to be good punk, but I'm too lazy.

Listen to Where The Crosses Grow. Most metal lyrics.

We march with ruins of death
    Destroying everything
This is where the crosses grow
This is where the ruins lay
We stand upon the trampled earth
    Drunk of destruction
    Hear them Cry
Raise your glass to the sky
