i mean The office can get uncomfortable, but Extras... *shudder*
I think that this is some kind of English thing. Like really painfully awkward situations involving other people is comedy gold over there. I just can't watch it when it gets too bad.

the most painful episode of extras was the one with sir ian mckellan and his play and gervais having to play a gay guy and having his old high school buddies come and god, i could not watch that episode the whole way through
But I'm not actually a wizard. I only pretend, you see.
The part where he stopped being gay on stage and completely ruined the shit out of the play was bad, but I don't even think it was the worst. The time when he didn't know the makeup lady's name was worse, for me. The time when he bought the stupidly expensive dress for Maggie was worse. The time when he tried to impress his new neighbor by having Maggie act like a fan was so bad that I actually haven't seen the whole thing.
Gervais and Merchant write some of the greatest excrutiating scenes I've ever cringed through. It's like they have been through or can imagine every painfully embarrassing situation imaginable.
The one where both guys were jerking off to the goddamn pen was hilarious, though.

I thought the most hilariously painful scene was the end of the Samuel L. Jackson one. Oh god, so painful.
The end? No no no. What about when Maggie's trying to have sex with the guy she's dating and she tries to hide the golliwog, gets caught, and ends up making it have sex with a barbie doll?
It's like they have this routine:
Character 1: "Wait, you're acting weird, what are you doing?"
Character 2: "No I'm not, everything's fine."
Character 1: "Look I can see you're clearly doing <X> and that's weird, what the hell is going on?"
At this point, the entire rest of the scene is Character 2 digging a progressively deeper hole while acting weirder and weirder by the minute, with occasional camera cuts back to Character 1, sitting in silence with a poker face, leaving the viewer to imagine the horrible judgments that must be being rendered behind the stiff facade.
And the worst is when Character 1 tries to be understanding because then Character 2 gracelessly escapes the situation only to fuck it up even worse next time. It's like that mercy shown by Character 1 is actually just prolonging the torture.

Yeah, that show doesn't tend to cringe quite as hard as Extras, but there are a lot of cases where it's like I just bit into a lemon thinking it was an orange.

Have you ever seen the bit where him and a girl are walking on the street and there's this homeless dude sitting there? It ends up being he only has like a 20 or something, gives it to the guy but then comes back and asks for it back or some shit... it was awesomely awkward.

Yeah, it's a great show and super awkward at times, but I don't find it as cringe-inducing as Extras or The Office (UK) because a lot of the awkward situations stem from Larry being a fucking asshole, whereas a lot of this shit in the former two shows is just cruel and painful to watch.
The main difference I see between watching an episode of The Office and an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm is with The Office I'm usually going "Oh god why is this happening that's terrible oh god" and with Curb it's like "What the fuck is wrong with you Larry, why are you such a prick"
Yeah, that! It's the lack of empathy that changes things. Like Always Sunny, they get screwed over all the time, but you never feel bad because they're such fucking assholes.
Yeah, I think that that's correct. The first one wasn't the best. The issue with pilots a lot of time seems to be that there's a disproportionate burden in setting up the characters and the world, so the actual story tends to be weaker.
I've seen few episodes of always sunny, but one I did see was the one with danny devito doing a lot of acid, standing in a bin and thinking he was stuck in a toilet. It was a very good episode.

I am with you totally Rane.
Fuck those Jews.
With their fancy clothes and their dancing.

What, like the squirrel?
GodDammit.
That's my guess anyway. I guess it's like playing quarters only instead of smashing up your knuckles you use things that don't bleed.
Brits are so smart!
Basically
But the Horse Chestnut is the conker.
I am going to break something
A chestnut?
What does a Jew with boner say when he walks into a wall?
Hamlet will be Hamlet
An ineffable tragedy of the human spirit that still resonates, even today.
I haven't, but I shall soon.
Yes! *airpunch*
8-)
and yet, I do not watch television
explain that!
Because I'm awesome like that.
What are you, Shibby clone #4?
No, I just know bonK. Also, that's a damn good way to spend an afternoon. Also, I don't even really know who Shibby is.
Orik: Okay. Hopefully I'll be working mornings so I can have time to actually... y'know, do PAX.
