So, the more observant of you may remember my thread a while back about how I have problems eating regularly.
This is pretty much associated with that. I need to start eating breakfast because I am fucking myself over, nutrients-wise. I have an incredibly bad habit of waking up and not eating anything, which screws up the rest of my day unless I conciously catch myself doing this.
Now, as a kid, I used to have cereal and milk every morning. Easy to throw together, and not too unhealthy if you have the right stuff. BUT I'm lactose intolerant so that doesn't work very well. (also my roomie likes to drink all milk that enters the house, but that's another story and I don't really mind.)
So, I want to figure out a breakfast that is nutritious, has a low prep time(since I tend to be rushed in the morning, sleeping habits etc) and can get my day started.
Rules: Nothing with dairy. I'm good on pretty much anything that can be prepped in less than 5 minutes. Other than that, I'm all ears.
You can make scrambled eggs in the microwave if you're "really" in a hurry, but you can make them on the stove in about 5 minutes. Throw in a little bacon, maybe a slice of toast and some fruit. Good place to start and easy to make.
Jimmy Dean makes these "Instant Breakfast Scramble" things. Check the frozen section of your loacl gorcery store. It's basically potatoes, onions, peppers, and sausage/ham/bacon depending on the make and model. Toss it in a pan with some olive oil and sautee it for about 5-6 mins then scramble an egg into it as well if you like. Whole process is under 10 mins usually and it's a real meal not a quick fix. Each bag has about 5 servings worth in it.

Cut a banana in half the long way and spread some peanut butter on it. I prefer crunchy for this. It is really good and filling. You could also make a peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich. That's a little easier if you are eating on the run.
i usually don't eat breakfast either, shocking i know. i typically wake up nauseous which makes finding apppetizing food nonexistant and i have to force myself to eat when i need to. no matter what i have, i will always be hungry an hour later for what i call real breakfast, even if i eat "breakfast" then with clockwork i get hungry at 1130-12 even i just ate brunch time
Hmm. I've never been a fan of eggs, but they seem to be a popular choice.
What's a good way to do eggs to make them taste good?
I like to make them 3 ways: scrambled, omelette and toast sandwich. The first two are pretty self explanatory. The third one is just break one or two eggs into a pan and cook them normal, except break the yoke open and let it run out onto the whites. Cook it, slap it between two pieces of toast with whatever items you want. Eat!
When I was building muscle mass I would have leftover steak in the morning. Breakfast doesn't have to be the traditional staples of breakfast; it can be what you didn't finish the night before.
Realistically, breakfast should be the most calorie rich meal of the day since you have 12+ hours to burn it.
I support oatmeal as well. You can mix it with water, and it comes in all sorts of tastes and styles. (Including high fiber :^
When people ask me how old I am; I just tell them I was a part of the Great Console War..... we won.
I love having an omlette in the morning, and I usually HATE eggs.. .really hate eggs. But this is delicious.. I throw two beaten eggs in on medium heat, salt, pepper, garlic powder, grated cheddar cheese (doesn't have to be much or it'll be reaaallly runny, but I like a bit extra), and mushrooms, lots of cut up mushrooms. Takes like less than 5 mins and it's delicious. I'm sure you could make a bigger one, but I'm a small gal so I eat little. lol.
Also, someone said it doesn't have to be a 'breakfast' food, it's true. You could throw some reheated leftovers from dinner on the stove/in the oven for like 5 mins and have a warm meal, throw in back in the tupperware to go.
Cooking is so fun, cooking is so fun. Now it's time to take a break and see what we have done. Yay, it's CAKE!
Jesus, I like a big breakfast as much as the next man but are you guys honestly suggesting bacon and eggs is healthy on a daily basis? Most mornings two slices of wholemeal toast with spread of preference and a glass of juice is perfectly sufficient to see me through to lunch. A bowl of oatmeal is definitely plenty.

Apparently eggs are pretty much always good for you. Bacon, not so much.
For breakfast I make myself a smoothie (with milk, a banana, some frozen berries, a scoop of whey protein powder) and couple of pieces of toast. It's easy enough to make every morning, I'm pretty sure it'll cover you as far as calories and whatnot are concerned, and it is pretty easy to change it up with different ingredients when you get bored.
I got a single serving smoothie maker dealie (like a magic bullet sort of) for Christmas a few years ago, and would recommend one to anyone.

You're not getting nearly enough calories in the morning, and no protein. Eggs are fantastic for you.
I eat a large breakfast, a large lunch, small snacks in between, and a small dinner. I'm really active so my body usually burns through this easily
a cup of oatmeal usually with peanut butter and honey but I mix it up
two eggs (hardboiled or fried or whatever)
Fruit, like a banana or apple or orange or grapefruit
Toast or bagel (dependent on the eggs I eat)
Juice or milk and tea or coffee
Sometimes yogurt
you don't need protein in every meal and honestly if you are just going to work/do non strenuous activity, thats probably fine. especially if he is regularly eats lunch.
hell i usually don't eat anything and i am fine and I ride my bike to work.
Peanut butter is godlike for breakfast. My wife spreads it on slices of apple; I like putting it on whole wheat crackers. Either way (or with bagels, toast, banana, etc), it's a good way to start the day pretty quickly.

This isn't really good advice.

Yeah um, the advice this guy if looking for is -what- to eat in the morning, not that he shouldn't eat at all 'cause it's fine anyway!'.. Everyone needs a good breakfast, it's healthier, and keeps you at a better weight too.
I also second or third or fourth or whatever peanut butter. yummy. I also like putting jam and butter on toast with milk and then having eggs too.

This is good. If you've got a good appetite, you should have this with some muesli or cereal on the side. I'd do this sort of thing more if I wasn't so lazy and just went milk + muesli.
In regards to soy milk, you may want to try a few different brands, since the taste can vary (often in relation to how much sugar is added). I'm also lactose-intolerant, so I've been drinking soy for most of my life and it took me a while to settle down on a single brand that I liked and didn't have much in the way of added sugar.
I've never seen eggs made that way. I've grown accustomed to eating them slightly burnt so I don't know how I'd be able to adjust to this sort of thing...
I like to eat a bagel in the morning with some ham salad spread on it if I have any laying around (and I usually do. Ham salad is one of my staple foods, which can't possibly be a bad thing), and some almonds and blueberries. Love me some blueberries in the morning.
i dont even like matisyahu and i dont know why i picked this username
His technique looks good, but I prefer the French technique I learned from watching Alton Brown.
You bring a pot of water to a boil, right? Put your skillet on that. You get a very even, very gentle heat. Mix up your eggs in the pan directly, and put in a splash of cream. The best scrambled eggs I ever had were made using this method with a good splash of whipping cream, kosher salt and fresh dill. Obviously this is not a healthy solution. Using a splash of skim milk does however also provide a great improvement to the texture as well (though nothing comes close to whipping cream) and the dill won't hurt you. Also, I like to move the eggs around much more slowly than Ramsay does. I like bigger pillows of egg matter.

Or hot cereal. It takes about 2 minutes to make.
Another vote for this. Very quick and extremely nutritious. Throw some fruit in there too.
Not nearly enough calories or protein in the morning. Take that and add 2 hard boiled eggs and you're set though.
Not or oatmeal. And oatmeal.

I normally buy precooked (I'm sure someone after me will groan) bacon and heat that up with it.
Throw down some toast and a glass of juice and boom, you got a good breakfast,
Except slice of Whole Wheat bread and added Honey, also make sure its not Skippy, Skippy freaking sucks.

As far as breakfast meat, sausage<bacon<ham/canadian bacon in terms of nutrition.
On the odd occasion that I make scrambled eggs, I add some barbecue sauce. And then some bacon. It always works out well.
I would suggest a tabasco-based hotsauce instead.
