Buying Wii Fit

LavaKnightLavaKnight Registered User regular
I tried a search, but both "Wii" and "Fit" are under the required minimum word size. Apologies if this is a redundant question.

My parents are going to get my little sister a Wii for Christmas, and wanted to get her Wii Fit with it. It looks like it's crazy popular, however, and prices seem a little steep. For instance, it can't be found for less that around $140 on Amazon marketplace, when the MSRP is $89.99.

Now, looking at the gamestop website, I see it's going for $120 new in a bundle. Is this the only way it's being sold, hence the inflated price, or is GS just trying to squeeze more money out of people? Or is it really just hard to find?

What would be the best place to find it? Call around to stores and hope they get new ones in, or take chances with the expensive online prices?

Thanks for the help. I'm excited to help recreate in my sister the feeling I had Christmas morning when Santa brought be a Genesis.

Yeah, if you want to be 100% sure you get one for your sister, probably the best bet is the $120 bundle. Circuit City (I know) has some wierd thing where you have to buy two accessories on-line, and they'll sell you a board.

    Isn't that illiegal?

Farscape is pretty much the best at anything

it seems though like the bundles are a good bet mine had wii ski, the charger for it, and intiailly a sleeve, but that got cancelled, all probably things i would buy anyways

Go to a store early on a Sunday morning and there is a decent chance they'll have one.

That was going to be my next question, whether or not Wii Ski and the sleeve are worth $30-$40.

Actually, it looks like the vanilla Wii Fit + Board are in stock on Circuit City's website, but I'm hesitant to order anything from Circuit City right now.

Good idea. I'm sure they'll have some left over from the Thurs./Fri. sprees.

i bought my wii in february with wiialerts.com. basically you sign up for email/text/phone notification for when a certain wii product comes into stock. you then have to follow the link it sends you and make a purchase before it runs out of stock again. i can say it actually does work and since i cancelled my account in march, i have never gotten a spam email, cellphone call or text message (i used a controlled email account for it and my personal cell phone).

heres the link to their page for wii fit alerts it seems like the last time there was one open for just 89.99 was the 22nd and whatever store that was only had it in stock for 6 minutes

    http://www.wiialerts.com/get_categories.php?cid=2&cname=Wii%20Fit

if you want to garuntee it, you can just get the circuit city bundle, they may run out if you wait

I did the wii alerts thing (or some flavor of it) - it texted me when Amazon had them in stock, I hopped online and bought it. Pretty easy, but it's not as handy if you don't happen to be near a computer right when it txts you.

the wii fit is a complete waste of money, just FYI

it's fun for the 1st few days and then it'll just sit in a corner collecting dust

There are various sites that post weekly ads for Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, etc. in advance of weekend sales. Find those, figure out when stores will have Wii Fit, then camp out for a couple hours beforehand to make sure you get one.

The Best Buy here in Columbia Heights DC seems to have Wii Fits when I go in on Sunday afternoons after they've gotten them in stock.

Either that or buy a bundle or pay above retail on Craigslist.

Is the northeast just up to it's elbows in all things Wii? I can go out and buy 4 in at least 5 Boston area Gamestops right now for around $90. These things are everywhere.

I... Don't know what to say to that.

OP: Supposedly Sam's Club will have some Wii Fits on Black Friday, so you might want to research that.

Cool, thanks for the info everyone. It sounds like they're not impossible to find yet, so I think I'll look through the ads and try to get one in town, and barring that, try out the Wii alerts to get one online.

I don't really want to deal with getting a Sam's Club membership and have to wait in line on Friday, so I'll check the other options.

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic here so I'll explain some things about retail to you. Stores put out their weekend ads, you'll normally get them either Saturday or Sunday. In those ads they'll have the wii fit product in them. When they do this, they make sure to carry, and refuse to sell until then, at least a few of the product so they have them for their ad day.

Basically you're more likely to find an item like this on a Sunday then on a Friday. Due to them getting them on Friday but being unable to sell them until Sunday.

Isn't the 80 dollar one the regular bundle with game and board? If it is I could walk into best buy near me and buy a stack of them.

I pinky swear that we will not screw you.

Yup. You could probably make around $30-50 each if you bought them all and ebayed them.

No, I didn't mean it to be sarcastic. I meant something along the lines of what you said, but I wrote it in an inadvertently sarcastic tone. It's good to know exactly why, so thanks!

I know. If I had some extra money around I definitely would, but I'm getting married in Feb and there isn't a whole lot of extra cash right now.

I pinky swear that we will not screw you.

You can also ask the manager at a Gamestop when they expect more in and show up early that day. It's how I got my Wii in the first place.

If that woman's cleavedge made one more person pick the game up off the shelf, it was a net positive for microprose. And to be blunt, if taking her top off could have increased sales enough to get a sequel, I'd endorse it 100000% because I like playing great games.

Your sister will probably think that you're trying to tell her she's fat. Maybe she is fat in which case she will be extra offended.

this reminds me of the time I bought my ex girlfriend an excercize dvd for her birthday as a joke. she opened it and gave me this blank stare. I was just like, "seriously". she hit me for a while until I gave her her real present.

Well, she's only 10, so I doubt that. I think she really really wants it, and I can't deny her that great feeling Christmas morning.

I asked for a Wii Fit for Christmas. I think it looks fun, then again, I think Samba De Amigo is pretty much the best thing ever. I think that puts my taste about on par with that of a 10 year old girl.

I really wanted a wii, and my parents really wanted wii fit. Since I'm hopefully leaving the country in a few months my parents went in 50/50 with me for a wii, and they got wii fit. When I was looking at prices at ebgames website they only listed bundles. When I went to ebgames to get everything, they had like 10 wii fits sitting right behind the counter. The wii fit its self only cost like 70 or 75 or something. So they do sell it on it's own. They probably just only advertise as the bundle to get you to buy more.

    So to answer your question:
If you come out to the boonies you're sure to find one and it will only cost you about $75
My parents love wii fit and use it every day.
I actually enjoy wii fit and use it every few days. I'm 24 years old and have a normal BMI. You don't have to be fat to use it. They have strength training excersizes on it. I can see a little kid loving some of the balance games on it. And your parents will love the yoga.

I got mine by calling gamestop everyday. They finally got a shipment and held one for me for an hour.

Just try calling stores and asking when they will get more. Call again the day they should arrive.

When people ask me how old I am; I just tell them I was a part of the Great Console War..... we won.
