Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Hi everyone, I need some help. I'm wanting to buy a DS Lite. I figured it would be great for some long plane flights i'm going to be taking come christmas. So, I've got a few questions.
Firstly, with the batteries being rechargeable is the input 100-240V allowable, or is the voltage fixed for the US voltage of 110-120V? Would I need to buy a step down converter to charge it in South Africa (200+V)?
Secondly, and my main question is, which accessories and games do I get?
This is the list I have so far:
DS List Onyx Black
Accessores:
Sennheiser MX 450 Earbuds (b/c i don't have any headphones)
HORI DS Lite Protective Filter
[Travel Bag for the DS Lite of some sort, recommendations?]
Games: These are the ones I was thinking of to start off my collection
Mario Kart DS
Kirby: Canvas Curse
Advance Wars DS
New Super Mario Bros
So, is this list ok? Maybe you guys could recommend a travel bag for the DS Lite and then your top 5 games for a person starting with the DS?
I have Animal Crossing: Wild World, and I don't see what all the fuss is about. Picking pears, or apples or what ever, fishing, picking up seashells... half the time I feel like I'm cleaning little virtual apartment. Maybe I'm missing something.
Trauma Center is awesome.
Mario Kart is fun. I've played the shit out of every Mario Kart release though, and I think I'm getting tired of it.
Nintendogs was fun for like... 5 minutes.
I have 4 games for my DS, and I think 3 are dull.
I was thinking about picking up Advance Wars. I've heard it's pretty great.
Final Fantasy 3 comes out soonish.
Clubhouse Games looks great.
It's amazing even if you aren't a fan of rhythm games. I'd say it trumps Advance Wars in terms of quality. You might also favor Ouendan over Mario Kart if you aren't in to online multiplayer.
Meteos is also very good.
KCC is essential even if the traditional Kirby turns out to rock. Canvas Curse, Trauma Center, and Ouendan are the three greatest proofs of touch-screen dominance.
Welcome to the party! I recommend a hard case over the soft first-party ones. Those soft ones aren't going to protect you from anything but scratches. I have this one. I got mine at Circuit City for like $10.
I would also say, don't bother with a screen protector. They are annoying unless you don't mind air bubbles on your screen.

Are you playing it too much? Animal Crossing has always been kinda a small doses game, you play it for a half hour a day at most. At most, an hour.

The north american and japanese DS / DS Lite ship with the same wall adapter, which is good for 100-120V. At least, that what I gathered from the looking at the back of mine just now. For anything higher than 120V, you'd need a stepdown converter.
The English version of this game finally came out, so that could be an option, rather than importing. I don't know how much they changed it, but it's getting comparable reviews at least.
Mario Kart - if you like mario kart, you'll love this. Best version yet. Great multiplayer.
NSMB - Excellent mario brothers action. A mix of all the good stuff from all the side scrollers. Mechanics are close to the original SMB.
Phoenix Wright - Soo good.
Contact - Great, unusual RPG.
Brain Age - Fun little puzzle game, Good sudoku.
Others:
I didn't like kirby very much. Once the gimic of using the stylus wears off, it's a pretty mediocre game. Short and easy too.
Trauma Center is good in terms of the gameplay, but gets unreasonably hard at times. So much so that it ruins the game for me. They really need to work on fixing that for the next versions.
Mario Hoops is alright, but not really worth buying.
Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! is excellent, but you need to really like the beat matching games to get the most out of it.
and her knees up on the glove compartment
took out her barrettes and her hair spilled out like rootbeer

As for the power supply, you'd need an AC adapter built for your voltage. The DS is the same, you just need the correct adapter to plug into it.
but if you really want to be extra special safe, you could just get a different charger meant for countries of that voltage
Traditional Kirby, but with two screens.

Brain Training is great until you get to the tests that use the microphone.
It doesn't like the word 'blue' for some reason.

You have to pronounce it as "broo".
I swear. I'm not being racist.
