the universe is only like 15 billion years old but it is around 50 billion light years across whereas if the matter from the big bang moved at the speed of light constantly it should be like 30
all galaxies are moving farther away from each other
the way i picture it is that the universe is a grid that the squares on are getting bigger

They did an experiment recently proving that buckyballs (molecules of 60 carbons in a soccer ball shape) do the same thing to a lesser extent at very low temperatures.
