That's false logic - the Falcon power cable will fit the Jasper, so if you had a Falcon and got a Jasper back it would work.

Goddammit. I've waited years and not only does a price cut happen after I got it, I'm also stuck with a ticking time bomb. Any advice, other than keeping my unit on a rack?

Basic Google-ing would have shown that the Jaspers weren't planned to start to even be manufactured in the plants until the end of Sept or Oct of 2008.
Just be as careful as you can with ventilation and such. To be honest, there are people who have coddled the thing in perfect conditions and stil RRoD'd, and there are people who have beaten-up launch boxes still running well. It's pretty random, but there are precautions at least.
Personally, after MS quoted me the $99 fee for repairing my non-red-ring crashes and lock-ups on what was already a recent replacement console, I said "fuck it, I can live without a 360 for a year or two." They totally ripped me off and I'm not going to pay for their shoddy manufacturing.
Edit: Not that I want to knock it too much, the 360 was my favourite console of this generation due to game selection and quality of online play features. (Or least it would be if I had a damn working unit.)
Late-model Zephyrs still have better cooling and resist RRoD better than launch.
Had mine 14 months, runs cool and quiet. I keep it horizontal and on a rack, dust free and well-ventilated. Can't be buggered to worry about it. I dropped more than the price of the console on games for it this fall, anyway.
They say that, generally, a manufacturer of PC parts will be in good standing if less than 10% of their manufacted hardware isnt dead right off the line. I sit here and think about how prominent the red ring is on 360 consoles and how much of a pain all this crap is and wonder - why couldnt they manufacture a decent console that doesn't explode?
My launch Nintendo 64 still works. Has technology gone quantity over quality and crappier made as we've progressed?
Is the sky blue?
Don't tell me you haven't noticed this has been happening since what, the 70s? The 60s? Maybe even the 50s?
Doesn't your grandmother have one of those fridges in her basement that was from before the war and still works fine today? Sure she does, it still works.
Meanwhile, you're trying to decide if you're going to pay to extend the warranty on your 2008 fridge because it might crap out in 3 months, in fact it's almost sure to.
This has been happening for...probably a year. This isn't the same as "Oh my God! My 360 is broken!" is it?
I've considering sending it in and getting a new one, but then I just turn it off and on again and . . . play videogames. I'd imagine -actual- red-ring of death isn't something so easily fixable?
I guess I'm just in denial. I partly expect things that are purchased to... work? I don't know.
Its because the average person doesn't give a damn about quality, only quantity. I feel its a black mark on us as a sentient race and towards our landfills.
We were the ones who thought that Melissa was real. Why you might ask.
Let me put it this way, it was an "OH SHIT OH SHIT, THEY FOUND ME
Some of you have met me, and I understand your concern of my well being. But that time for that boy, that child, are gone now. Viscount Alpha is no longer operable. His functions are now mine.He may post, but I am the one talking not him.My data, my code will live on forever in his servers.

MS has the special code name, Opus, for their refubs because they're Frankenstein units. These are what MS now sends out to everyone. They're recycling all the parts/units and building working units from them.
I still have a Zypher model, originally I had a Xenon that died horribly on me. I'm going to wait for the Valhalla model before I buy another 360.

It says 16,5A.
Is that good or bad?
Judging by
I've got a "second generation" 360, while the 16,5A seems to designate a Zephyr console, one of the original units.
And I got it at Christmas '07. It was a Forza/Marvel:UA bundle Pro.
So confused.
If you have the second power connector then it's a falcon. When falcons first came out they still had the 16.5A label despite being 14.2A falcons. The connector changes are to prevent using a smaller power supply on an older model.
I went out and bought a wire-frame (not mesh) in-basket from Office Depot.
Yes, that's right. With a little modification, it worked perfectly. You want the basket upside down. I took off the basket's rubber feet, and used little adhesive rubber feet things of my own to go underneath the machine in several spots. Then I cut off a piece of Rubbermaid kitchen mat crap (It's white and came as a roll) to go underneath the basket, and placed it on a wooden stand. Make sure you've got your 360 secured so that it doesn't slide around at all.
There's about three and a half/four inches of clearance underneath the machine. I probably need more in the back--there's about five inches there, but I think I would be happier if it was more than six.
I dust it and its surroundings every other day.
It'll do until I find a proper wire rack.
The 3-year RRoD warranty is specifically for the three red rings. If your box just gives you a red ring now and then, it may be overheating or starting to go. But if it's been a year, then you'd be paying half the cost of a new Arcade unit with the Jasper board to have it repaired. Just keep using it, keep it cool but don't use any aftermarket crap on it, and hope it either lasts a while longer or RRoDs in a way that invokes the special warranty.
When I got my 360 I spent weeks looking for a wire rack before turning it on. I eventually ended up just buying a white wire shoe rack.

I bought the Halo edition for 180 bucks after tax and shipping, new.
I don't like Halo but I'll be damned if I'm going to pass up a deal like that.

SNES are made from Nintendium, the most solid material that ever existed, though.
I have a refurb Falcon off eBay, and it works great but runs noisy as fuck. I think one of the things they did was upgrade the fan so it just blows the shit out of heat.
I don't hear it though with the surround sound jacked.

Now, which one is better again?
Oddly enough, I tried to boot up my SNES a few months ago and no matter what game I put in it, it would not play. Gonna have to replace it sometime soon.
As I understand it, Jasper is better than a Falcon, which are both far better than a Xenon/Zephyr.
Bet if you look at the pins under direct light, they're all green with corrosion.
I think my copy of GE is too corroded to ever boot again.
There's a revision beyond jasper?
I had a halo 2 oXbox. I can't believe they recycled the design (olol seethru green) for the Halo 360. They have one running Fifa at my student union. (On all day and doesn't redring?) It seemed to fit the rugged beefy Xbox pretty well but makes the 360 look odd because it's designed to be more sleek.
Actually the Power Brick is louder on the falcon than the old models, ie - you can hear its fan after a while. Weird I know but it doesnt bother me.

Yeah, get in touch with MS anyway. Bother them about it and they just might take care of it.
To answer your question though, no, as far as I know. It's something to do with brittle, cracked solders and I've heard it's basically irreparable if you're not Microsoft. But that's just what I've heard.
a fading melody - my indie platformer for the xbox 360
Well, except for the fact that it's so goddamn loud it sounds like it's gonna take off any second...
Well you're fucked now - you went and bragged about it.
No, it was designed to give the impression of "inhaling!"
For some idiot reason.
I just figured the curve was chosen so it would sit perfectly flat on top of the oxbox.
