Not sure if I talked to you guys about how my grandpa was in the Raiders, but I recently found out more about his unit and what he did and stuff.
i'm waiting to get the report of his missions and islands he was assigned from my dad
That's pretty cool.
he used to go onto islands before the battalion would invade with units of 3 men. they would be the only forces on an island and the only supplies they would have would pretty much their uniform, their knives, a gun with like one ammo clip and would have to get everything they needed from the land. their job was to just cause a bit of chaos and kill the leaders and fuck up their resources in order to get the island all freaking out and unorganized before the rest of the raider battalion moved in full force. i'm looking for a book on them to buy and get for my dad because history about them really isn't that wide spread. the Raiders were disbanded after the 2nd battalion due to a bunch of reasons within the marines. for instance, the rest of the marines hated them because they didn't like the idea of a special force within a special force.
they especially didn't like the 2nd battalion which was Carlson's raiders. my gramps served in that
