360 rejects oXbox games & updates [Resolved]

So here goes. My mother gave my 13yr old nephew a 360 for Christmas, it was a 20gig pro. I plugged it into my home network to update everything for him. The new dash board installed and everything was fine. I then popped Fable: The Lost Chapters in since my nephew likes that game and never got a chance to finish it.

Well it tells me that it needs to download a patch, I click ok. It downloads tries to install, the screen goes blank yet the 360 doesn't actually reboot. It goes back to the screen telling me it needs to download a patch again. It's like its stuck in a loop. The game actually starts up and runs through the intro but the controller doesn't work at all for it. I've tried clearing the cache and that didn't help.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT; in case someone else ever has this problem:

Being signed into live allowed the patch download & install to work.

Edit:

Also go into the memory --> Games -- and see if the game is there. Delete and retry first is what I should say.

Tried it, didn't work. I'm looking into flashing the firmware now. I probably should have installed the oXbox software before updating the dashboard.

Don't flash the firmware. It was purchased near Christmas? It's still under warranty.

Take it back and get a new one that works.

I thought there might have been an option to flash the firmware from MS. I was wrong, I'm not going to try that. And no this one was a replacement my brother got when our last 360 died. He never bothered to use it so it's just sat on his shelf unopened. It's just out of the one year warranty.

Go to the system blade and then select memory.


Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?

There are no blades anymore. I updated the dash board to the newest version. I do not like the new update. And yes I cleared the cache right away.

I decided to format the HD just to see what would happen at this point. And now I get a new error message. It tells me the 360 can't play it and directs me to www.xbox.com/games. I haven't called their help line yet. But depending on what is required to get it fixed I'll probably just play the hell out of it and induce the RRoD. I decided to check, this thing is a Zypher model on top of it. D:

Alright, I went through the steps in getting my nephew an email account just so I could make him an Live account. Signing in and then trying Fable The Lost Chapters, the patch downloaded and installed properly. So now we can play oXbox games on this 360. Now to get him so good games.
