MP3 links in Firefox (can be closed)

Whenever I click a link ending in .mp3 in firefox it loads up a black window with (no video) in the middle and no audio controls. This makes listening to podcasts rather annoying, as if I want to pause for any reason I have to download it to my desktop and listen from there.

Is there a good lightweight extension that'll give me some basic media controls if I click an mp3 link? Thanks.

You could try FoxyTunes, which can control your other media players on your computer as a bonus! It adds a little "play" button next to an mp3.

Thanks, I remember I used to run that on my old computer, I'll have to give it a shot.

Nope. Doesn't work, I still have to download the file if I want to be able to pause. The controls at the bottom don't work on stuff played in-browser.

Go to the preferences and click "Applications." Scroll down to MP3 (and any other ones you want to change) and click on the right column, which should drop down a menu with several options. From there you can choose which plugin or outside application you want to handle that format.

It was amusing to have Massachusetts as part of our country, but now, of course, like so much of the coastal nation, it no longer qualifies as America.

Thanks a ton. VLC was the defaulted app, I changed it to windows media player and it works perfectly now.
