Valentine's Day '09 is creeping down the street, leering at your pockets like a horny hobo.
This one day of the year, along with anniversaries of every shape and kind, has both plagued and overjoyed people all over the commercialized world. If you're with someone you love, it's an opportunity to kick things up a notch for a day and night to re-affirm your undying love on steep credit and Hallmark's watch. A truly genuine holiday.
For many men, it's a frustrating double standard where the expectation is on us to shower a fine lady with affection until we meet an invisible bar of standards, which we unknowingly raise each and every subsequent year until she's found sleeping with her boss for a raise, spent mostly on ice and Carlos, the strapping pool bo...sorry, pool MAN you limp dicked trout. However, if she's into the whole thing and you do well, she might reward you with some of the hottest damn lingerie you ever see, so keep some faith!

For the rest of us, it's the cheerful reminder that we're single, possibly lonely, and in the not so rare case quite drunken and desperate. Clubs have special events, bars fill to the brim with unfortunate souls, and you get to live with that feeling until it's burned from your soul for another 365 days. Then again, people could just not give a fuck, but that'd be FAR too sensible.
That might all sound stereotypically negative or cynical, but with the right approach Valentine's can be a wonderful and truly memorable experience. If you're lucky.
That all being said...what are some of the memorable Valentine's experiences you've had over your lifetime, both good and bad? Do you have any big plans for this year's event or want some opinions on what to do for him/her? Did you enjoy the Valentine's exchanges in elementary school, or did you ever get any unique cards? Has a friend or acquaintance ever upstaged you so bad he just HAD to suffer?
It's the biggest standardized expectation outside of diamond rings and possibly Christmas, and it's coming for your hard earned pennies, salty tears, and other valuable creams.
