The real problem with the Oscars is that the academy has a huge amount of criteria for films that have little to do with merit. Let's face it the films that win are manufactured to win, there are actors who only choose to do movies later in the year that will qualify them for an Oscar nod. I'm not discounting that many of these actors and directors are really good at what they do, but the whole aspect of vying for an award as an only reason to make a film is just ludicrous. I think the biggest reason that the Oscars are so useless is because every time they break the trend and nominate something outside of their comfort zone, it's treated like its a goddamn miracle from heaven.
