Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

for what reason
We could. What's the fps on most airsoft guns, rate of fire, clip/magazine size? Do those little pellets get effected by the wind a lot? How much does it hurt relative to paintball? How are hits enforced? How is cheating handled?
All these little questions in the back of my mind.
If a guy refuses to go down, keep shooting him.
edit: it is good that Pony is here because I have to go. see ya chat.
What if he's wearing a bullet proof vest? Or he's so wacked out on cocaine he doesn't even feel it?
Your character would be one of the Good-Guys, if you were wondering.
Maybe Plato had a 14 year old impacted against the side of his skull and now he doesn't talk so great.
Yeah. I mean, you are looking at around $100 for a cheap marker, mask and air source (and you will want upgrades, eventually). And then around $15 in field fees, $10 for Co2 for a day and then $30 for 2000 paintballs which, depending on how you play, could last you a month or so.
Seriously: beautiful.
It sounds like staying up all night to watch the sun rise on skyscrapers.
The album version is even better.
I mean, if you got a pump, conserved paint, used cartlets...
Yeah it would still be pricey.
It wasn't too expensive.
Did you give people welts with them too?

- What's the fps on most airsoft guns? Depends on the gun, and you can change the setting manually. Most people in my experience shoot at around 350-400 FPS.
- rate of fire? Again, depends on the gun. AEG (electric rifles) tend to have fully automatic firing modes, although how many it is putting out per second i couldn't say. GBB (Gas blowback) guns are typically pistols and use propane or some other compressed gas to fire, and are semi-automatic only. Shotguns and other "springers" require being pulled back or cocked after each shot.
- clip/magazine size? You can get magazines for most weapons in either realistic Lo-cap (holding as many rounds in a magazine as a real gun of that type would hold) or gameplay-friendly Hi-caps (which can hold literally hundreds of rounds)
- Do those little pellets get effected by the wind a lot? Depends on the gun/fps, but over long distances (over 100 ft.) the effect of wind can be large.
- How much does it hurt relative to paintball? Less individually. Airsoft BBs are smaller and contain less energy than a paintball, even at close range. They might leave tiny welts, but generally lack the large bruises that paintballs leave. At close range they have been known to break skin or knock out teeth, and I have personally had an airsoft pellet lodge itself into the skin of my forehead when i was shot at under two feet from the gun.
It's important to note that while they hurt less individually, airsoft guns are mostly fully automatic and getting "lit up" by a full-auto burst at short range is not fun and generally considered unsportsmanlike.
- How are hits enforced? Pure honor system.
- How is cheating handled? By having a good community and keeping in mind we're all playing to have fun, not to "win". The community I'm involved in has reputable referees and any sort of accusation of cheating is taken seriously. I have seen once a player be declared "persona non grata" and being banned from games being set up at our forums, because he was caught cheating.
Thanks for the detailed response pony.
Dude that equipment would be so shitty he might as well not even play unless it's a special gametype or something.
Realistically, your looking at probably 300 bucks for a low end mechanical marker, like 50 bucks for a case of paint, if you get nitro it's like 150 bucks for a tank, or 50 for crappy co2.
And then you gotta keep buying balls and refilling air.
Oh yea, and you need a mask, like 50 bucks more.
It is his best book.

Is it about a group of uniquely endowed children who have to save the world?
Edit: It is about a pretty normal adult guy who has to save a small, crappy kingdom but is ill-equipped to do so.

A smart parts ion which is like, a very solid electronic gun, maybe bottom of the high ends is $220.
airsoft BBs against exposed skin sting like a motherfucker
even having a little bit of fabric there can make a difference
most guys i know play in full BDUs
Paintball facemasks are rare to see people using (usually it's just goggles) because the mask makes it difficult to hold your gun up to properly sight your target
but i have also noticed that while people tend not to wear paintball masks they usually have other face coverings, like balaclavas and ski masks
i wear a balaclava, but only in winter. gets too hot to wear it indoors for any length of time
personally, i often play games in a tank top without a mask, but i'm a freak in this regard
if I wake up at 8, I can make $50 for almost no work. if I don't get up for that I can sleep til 11:15 and then just have school.
I have to wake up earlier right? that's like spending $50 just to stay up a little later...
just need to sort of say it out loud.
I spent like 400 something on my tippman x7, which is a low end mechanical marker...
Heh, yeah, you are a crazy dude. You wouldn't be able to see any flesh on me.
Come on, you can miss a few hours of sleep for fifty bucks.
son that sounds to me like you got ripped off
then again i haven't played paintball in like ten years
Sounds like you got ripped off? I wish there was a nicer way to put that.
It's not really a rip off, it's a solid gun that could probably shoot underwater if I wanted to. And it has a response trigger so I can shoot either semi or full auto if need be. amazingly consistent.
Of course I also spent 200 bucks on a barrel kit with 5 different bore sizes which helps the accuracy a lot.
i frown on that
you don't need body armor for chrissakes and it just makes knowing when you are shot that much harder
you should always be able to feel being hit, then there's no argument over whether you were shot or not
bad enough that when adrenaline gets pumping you can get shot and not even feel it, when you've got god damn armor on it makes it worse
This is why I prefer paintball. Regardless of what you wear, you will probably feel it, and everyone will see it.
My marker held up in the hail this weekend, which made me really happy, I'll admit I was worried about that a little bit.
Heh. I'm looking at a $30 barrel right now.
YAY!
They come in a little ammo box and everything, and the streamlines will shoot in EVERYTHING Nerf sells but the crappy ball-guns.
