Encoding AVIs

Looking to purchase an encoder, so i can convert avi to rm, or mpegs. I've seen a lot of crappy free ones out there, but need a good one.

Any suggestions?

    Winavi is pretty good. Its what I use, though I've found that it can sometimes screw some up if you are batch encoding a number of files.
