Same here. I was a big fan of Disaster Report and Raw Danger on the PS2. So looking forward to getting Disaster, was a huge reason I got a Wii. Fatal Frame IV would have been a nice bonus too.

PictoChat lets you scroll up and see what others wrote/drew, and you'd need to page down to keep the prior message off the screen, so if you played it with PictoChat you'd be on the honor system to not look.

Y'know, like if you played it with paper.

EDIT: According to IGN it does lots more. It will generate a starting sentence if you want, it saves all data to the internal storage, remembers and tracks players, and when the game is over it displays everything so everybody can see.

As I was tinkering with my DSi's internet settings it occurred to me: future DS titles won't have the internet settings programmed into them, instead it will read from the DS itself, like with the Wii.

Keeping that it mind, would it be foolish to assume that we may see a unified friend code system in near future?

The reason that there's been none in Europe is because I think we're getting them monthly (or fortnightly). We'll be getting the same amount, though, just instead of a game a week we'll get 4 games on one day or 2 games on 2.

Nope, friend codes are generated using the console and game in pairing.

I honestly wish Microsoft let us have a 'public' display name and a seperate account name. Even though Nintendo's system is the least frilly of the 3, it's the most secure. Nobody has any chance of stealing my account. Versus the Xbox where account stealing is a goddamn business.

Old DS titles did the same thing. Early firmware modifications ran into this problem, that prior to Mario Kart DS there was an unused portion of the DS's firmware space, which it turned out was the internet settings. That's why every online DS game has the same connection interface.

My conjecture is that the issue with WEP/WPA is just that old DS games "expect" to see the old WEP menu; some aspects of the firmware were apparently hard coded in the software, which is why the old games can't use WPA.

So are you saying it would be impossible (for future DS and Wii titles, I know there's no way to change the past ones) to allow for a single code to be used per platform?

In theory, they could, but I don't think they're suddenly going to change their system. Gamespy is the one behind it, anyway.

I almost made a separate thread about this, but I figure it might as well be here, especially since this isn't a first page thread anymore:

After months of being put off of the DS because my Lite was somewhat busted (the touch screen wouldn't calibrate correctly), I decided to go ahead and buy a DSi, and my love for the system is renewed. But since pretty much all of my DS games were lost to the dangers of a college dorm (stolen? lost? I'm still not positive, myself), I could use some recommendations.

Here's what I got when I bought the system:
    - Dragon Quest IV
    - Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
    - Final Fantasy IV
    - Bangai-O Spirits

I'd like something that uses the touch screen to good effect, since I had to deal with a broken one for so long and I'd like to feel that my purchase was vindicated (:P), and though I realize there are plenty more great RPGs on the system, I think I'm covered on that front for a while (I may crumble and buy Chrono Trigger in the near future, though). I'm considering Rhythm Heaven, but I had the original Rhythm Tengoku on the GBA, and I wasn't overly impressed with it, but if you all think this newest one is a good improvement, I'd probably take the leap. I also hear good things about GTA, but the screenshots and such I've seen haven't quite sold me. And though I'd like Pokemon Platinum, I just don't think I have the time to sink into it right now.

In other words: I'd like something fun, touch screen-oriented, and not too time consuming for my beautiful new DSi. What do you all recommend?

GTA is wonderful, don't go strictly on the screens. It is of decent length but can easily be played in short segments. Very addictive.

I know you said you're covered on the RPG front but Dragon Quest Monsters Joker is really awesome, great graphics for DS, it's like pokemon with equips.

I like Rhythm Heaven. I haven't heard that it was a big improvement over the GBA one. Mileage may vary I guess.

Also OMG touchscreen use + best game on the system? Elite Beat Agents. Now.

Additionally, The World Ends With You is an action RPG with great touchscreen use and is overall a lot of fun and highly recommended on this forum.

Picross DS is a wonderful budget-priced logic puzzler, similar in thought process to Sudoku. It is also like $20 new or less IIRC. You can try a good demo of it here though it may be tough to learn with no prior instruction. (I can't be arsed)

Tetris DS is a generally good decision.

On the DSiware side of things, skip Warioware and buy Aquia, it is a slick puzzle game with well produced sound. If you like Dr. Mario you may want to save your points as it is likely that's coming within a month or two.

I'd have to second The World Ends With You. You seem to like rpgs, and that one is defiantly touch-screen intensive, as well as being one amazing rpg.

Ah, I had Elite Beat Agents (and both Ouendans), as well as The World Ends With You before all of my games disappeared, so I'm not quite sure I want to buy them again in the event that they turn up (not likely, but you never know). They were great, though.

Oh yeah I forgot Layton and the Crystal Chronicles (either of them). Echoes of Time is newer and shinier and can play online alongside the Wii version but I haven't played it. I have the older one and it was a lot of fun, Kingdom Hearts-esque gameplay.

I loved the first DS Crystal Chronicles (which is also a casualty of my unfortunate situation, I'm afraid :x), so maybe I'll pick up the sequel once I have more money.

I know this is not exactly related but I was wondering any idea how much a used ds lite is?

My DS lite is having issues where it's shutting off when i move the screen or the top screen is showing a blank white screen.

I would like to get another one because I am not ready to pick up a DSI yet.

You don't need screen protectors if you don't stab your screen with your stylus. I don't know if it's just me who's careful or everyone else who's insane, but I played a lot of TWEWY, Ouendan 1 and 2 and EBA and my screen still looks fine, almost new.

It's very easy to get carried away in Ouendan/EBA, especially with those freaking spinners. If you can restrain yourself and keep things light, you'll actually do better, but when you're whipping through a game on Elite Beat Divas and you're cranking through spinners, you can score a hole through the entire bottom screen if you're not careful. :)

    Gentlemen.

I need an awesome case for my DSi. By awesome I don't mean look or feel or anything, I mean zippered with pockets and storage for like 10 games.

All I can find at Wal-Mart is a crappy little wallet thing that leaves the corners of the DS exposed and holds 3 games. I have also seen a big starter kit at Gamestop that has an almost decent zippered case in it but again, not a lot of game storage and I don't need all the extra starter stuff besides.

What can I do? (punch, kick!)

I haven't found anything like that; the cases I always see with room for more than 2-3 games are those bulky-looking briefcase things they sell at GameStop. The case I'm using is the BD&A DSi System Wallet, which is very nice. I never have a need for more than 4 games (3 + 1 in the DS) when I'm on the go.

    9232788cv2a.jpg

What I use at home for the rest of my games is the Hori Game Card Case 16, which is only $9 and holds 16 DS games in a sturdy, compact, hardshell case. It's maybe a little bit larger than a GBA SP, but keeps all of the games solidly locked in place. You could always combine the two.

Didn't someone link a clear plastic case that holds 4 games (plus 1 in system) in the lid a few pages back?
