Dawn of War 2 is the newest RTS set in the grimdark future of the 41st millennium by Relic. Described as taking the best parts of the original DoW combined with Company of Heroes, this game places an emphasis on quick action over memorizing build orders and perfecting your pixel clicking. And by that I mean that there is no base building.
The game has two distinct portions, with the single player campaign being a completely different beastie from the multiplayer. The single player campaign is for the SM only (though campaigns for other races seems like an obvious DLC money maker *hint hint*). It's a persistent rpg like squad based tactical game with emphasis on building up and using a handfull of squads for the whole campaign. For more information you can see this link, beware the minor spoilers.
In the multiplayer portion of the game you can choose from Eldar, Orks, Space Marines, and Tyranids. As time allows I or someone else will provide individual write ups on the various races, but for right now just remember that all you need to do in order to win as Eldar is to mass banshees. Unless you are on my team, then you should try something else.

Da Eldar are right sneaky gits. Claimin to be some ancient mighty race, deyz just a buncha sissy ponces. If yer up 'gainst dem, ya can just send 'alf da boyz 'ome. Stillz ya gotz to be a little careful, dem Eldar love der "speshul-aye-zay-shion" an' tend ta be really good at somefink but rubbish at everfing else. Dem Eldar also like ta shoot ya den run before ya can give em a right propar smashin.

Da bugz are right fun. Dey alwayz have lotz o' da runty wunz dat make great crunchin noises when ya 'it em wif ya choppa. Relyin on lotz and lotz of dem to provide a good scrum ya still gotz to keep yer eyez out fer da big wunz, deze bugz got lotza tricks an seem ta make da smalla wunz fight betta. Me favorite part iz takin dem really runty wunz, da "rippahs" and seeing if ya can eat der head 'fore dey can eat yurz!
Multiplayer
MP is handled via GFWL, there is a partial list of people's gamer tags below but the best way to meet up with people is via the G&T vent server. Check the sticky in this forum for the server info and how to donate for it's upkeep. Trust me when I say that the game is a LOT better when playing with/against fellow PA folks. 3v matched games when your team mates are pubbies might just be a special plane of hell.

The single player is among the best I've played in a long time as far as RTS games go. I just wish it was longer.
Also, I was one of those that was worried about how 'gear' and drops would work, and if it would be good or crappy. I'm glad at how well it turned out.
Either way, the Imperium is fucked.
It doesn't matter who wins, we lose.
I remember a fluff thing about nids and orcs on a world where they just continuously fight and it has some super ginormo orcs, and some freakishly powerful nids.
Sounds fun.
The orks fight a neverending swarm of 'nids and grow larger and stronger and meaner. Eventually one side will win, and that side will fuck someone else right up the pooper.

Esentially if the Tyranids win against the Ork planet, the Tyranids take in the Ork DNA and become nearly unstoppable.
If the Orkz win, the amount of tough fighting will make everyone on the planet as powerful as a Nob or better, breeding a huge quantity of super tough, relatively super smart orkz who can organize a Waagh to fuck up the Imperium.
the thing I'm waiting to find out is how much the launch day patch is going to mess with my multiplayer strategies. In beta I would win much more often than I would lose. I expect that to be a bit different at least until I figure out and adjust to the tweaks.

The orks grow from fighting the tyranids. The Tyranids evolve from fighting the orks.
Whoever wins, everyone else is fucked basically. The only option at that point is exterminatus.

The two armies will have gargantuan fleets as well, so good luck sending in a ship to their systems to perform an exterminatus on several planetary systems

Only because everything leads to exterminatus.
Once they fix the population bug maybe. Right now 1v1 is either against scrubs, which is no fun but ends before the population bugs matters, or against decent players which gets ruined by the population bug.
That's why you camouflage your exterminatus ship to look like an ork one, and hope the tyranids aim at the ork ships shooting at the nids.
Then again, that would probably be heresy, so sucks to be a human. Then again, that's pretty much 40k.

Warp travel. The Emperium have been known to suicide ships in to vortex torpedo hostile planets. I dunno, the Orks just aren't...smart? enough to really be as big a threat as the Tyranids/Necrons. They tend to get distracted easily and are super vunerable to someone just popping the head of the Waagh. I'd be more scared of some weird Ork/Tyranid hybrid thing under the Tyranid hivemind's control.
Edit: I remember reading the Orks led a Waagh into the Eye of Terror once. That's clever.
