Man, it took me like 5 minutes to download all that shit.

There are no laws about whether or not someone can play a game because its rated M.

    dang

I had always sort of assumed there was some sort of law regarding distribution of m-rated games

    I guess not?

Nope, not for movies either. Anybody can go see a rated R movie or buy a rated M game legally, regardless of age. Stores just chose to ask people for their ID to make sure they are 18 because it makes them look responsible.

    ...this sounds like shenanigans
can i tell the bitch at the window to fuck off next time she ids this 24 year-old

There are people out there who are actually stupid enough to think you can't legally sell an m rated game to a minor?

    reposig.jpg
  • Darkness MundusDarkness Mundus Registered User regular
That was more for rated R movies.
(every time they card me they're suggesting I'm 16 and that makes me angery)

  • tuggatugga how neat is that thats pretty neatRegistered User regular
selling M rated games to minors is a store policy thing, not a legal thing

Selling or making porn available to minors is illegal though in some states, right?

  • Darkness MundusDarkness Mundus Registered User regular
I did a quick googling. No real information in regards to any of that shit in the first few pages so I gave up.

  • tuggatugga how neat is that thats pretty neatRegistered User regular
yes but the definition of porn varies as well

    11750-1.png
  • msuitepyonmsuitepyon Registered User regular
Man, there is no federal or state law preventing the sale of M-rated games to minors. It's just a company policy.

  • bentbent Registered User
    It's illegal in Britain!

Germany, Australia I think, serveral countries have laws against selling mature games to minors. This isn't just a USA release.

Anyway last night the queue was down under 100 and I got in very quickly, there were plenty of servers, in fact about half them them were empty...

290,000 people have registered since it went open beta

    Update

    Ripped shamelessly off of EvilAvatar.

Those trying to play Quake Live may have had some serious issues with the whole playing aspect of things. Long, brutal queue times have been there since the open beta launched a week ago. Now however, word is that everyone should be able to actually get in there and play a game without waiting in line to do so. This news comes from a Tweet by Quake Live:

    Quote:
Yesterday's changes have worked out really well, we have turned off the site queue.

  • FandyienFandyien But Otto, what about us? Registered User regular
Shit, awesome. I've gone to the site and sat queued for awhile but haven't gotten a chance to play this yet.

That'll make class substantially more tolerable.

I was wondering why they even had a queue when there was always like 50 empty servers.

  • ArtreusArtreus Registered User regular
So now that it is in open beta are there new maps? Iplayed it a bunch in January but it got old after a while. Not too much variety.

I doubt it. It seems to be all run on servers run by id.

Also tdot. It is basically quake 3. If you liked quake three you should like this version. It will run pretty well on even old machines I should think.

  • ThatDudeOverThereThatDudeOverThere Ymir owns. He fucking owns!Registered User regular
I have never played any quake game, that's why I'm asking.

Ooohh. Well. It is a pretty awesome game to just pick up and play for a little bit. I heartily recommend it as the Quake series is fucking awesome.

There are currently only the original Quake3 maps plus a few made specifically for the release of QuakeLive. As far as I'm aware there is no way to play your personal Q3 maps since ID controls the servers. There was talk of including more community created maps at some point but I'm not sure how far along that initiative has gone.

  • tuggatugga how neat is that thats pretty neatRegistered User regular
Ok the queue times were there so thousands of people wouldn't log in simultaneously and most of the queue was some half million people that downloaded the game the first week

And as far as custom maps go you'll most likely have to rent a server to make your own maplist and rules

I'd has said this on multiple occassions

so how would I go about doing that?

couldnt i just host it on a seperate comp for me and friends to lan on?

or do i have to rent from them?

No.. it is still a good gun. It just isn't completely unbalanced for multiplayer gameplay.

  • jwalkjwalk frosty Registered User regular
    Um, ahh...

There's no more queue, the stats are even working now too.

There is no server, just the client. You can't run your own server, they are all run by iD or whatever host they are using.

  • tuggatugga how neat is that thats pretty neatRegistered User regular
in the future you can run your own server for a fee

    you're fucking retarded

game ratings are not a legal issue, they're a store policy issue

lots of things are on the internet and are free and are illegal in places and legal in others

like porn: in oklahoma, where i live, hardcore porn is illegal by law, but can i still find it on the internet if it is free? of course. are the cops gonna bang on my door cause i like to see scat porn with a hint of bestiality and arrest me? probably not.

i know we arent allowed to discuss it, but the guys at pirate bay (sort of) get away with what they do based on the same principle
