Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

    this isn't that terrible
    yeah

half the point of these shows is to find a comfortable middle ground between funny and not funny that you can ride for years

    so he's not doing terribly

Weren't the first two years of Conan awful?

The first year or so of Ferguson was terrible, too.

Give this man time, and I think he could actually be successful at this show. He just needs to actually understand the homages he's making to Letterman and Conan, rather than just churning out poorly-plotted segments that don't have the proper elements to be entertaining.

thing is if he doesn't improve quick enough, he'll most likely be gone

tv in 1993 is much more different than tv in 2009

Look, here's the thing. Late night shows are historically at their best when they push network boundaries. Letterman in his prime scared the shit out of NBC. Conan's producer always had his head in his hands for a reason. Carson made pussy jokes. You can't come out of the gate yelling "fuck you suits!" But, knowing the people behind the show, there's some seriously subversive shit coming. So for an utterly safe, nervous, rookie performance? Hell of a job. I look forward to the next few years of this.

I am giving this a chance just because Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht will be on eventually. I have to think Fallon had a lot to do with that.

It's a bummer that Letterman has only had fleeting moments of greatness over the last decade. If they just played reruns of the Late Night era Letterman every night, I'd probably tune in.

They're doing Draw Barrymore on Friday, so I guess I'll tune in for that.

He really wasn't handling those tough situations well. He can't insult himself like Conan, or I guess blame his african band player like Leno.

Lorne Michaels put his trust into Conan when no one else would, and he did the same for Jimmy.

I loved it all, except for Lick it for Ten. That was atrocious.

It was way more mind boggling that somebody decided a dorky writer would totally be able to carry a show for like fourteen friggin years.

Yeah but Lorne Michaels put his trust in Jimmy Fallon when he was on SNL too
    And he sucked then

I hope Jimmy Fallon and Robert DeNiro sit there for 20 minutes just going "little bit" back and forth with the scrunched up face thing.

Fuck this, they could have gotten somebody better.

    I can't think of anybody better off-hand.

It's too bad Mitch Hedberg is dead. The show would be way worse but I would watch it literally every night.

DeNiro was meh, along with the Space Train bit and lick it for ten. I liked everything else though. I could see this being great if Fallon manages to stop acting like a completely nervous wreck the entire time.

The binge is when he memorizes the whole thing before coming out on stage. What you've got there is the purge.
