Without said circumstances its largely irritating to everyone who isn't a CS junkie and not worth all the hype. And I'll sock anyone in the junk if they argue that I'm being unfair and should install some outdated version of the original CS to play it "for real."
Half Life 2 is like... basically one of the best shooters ever made. You can skip the original, alot of people love it, but honestly just read a wiki page, Half Life isn't that great, especially compared to Half Life 2 or, Christ, the pair of absolutely jaw-dropping episodes they've dropped since HL2's release.

HL2 and its episodes are so fucking worth it
With a good team on a medium sized server its so much fun but I absolutely loathe it on the 24 player servers. I die or kill one dude and then die and then I spend the next three minutes watching some other faggot twirl a Deagal in his hands while he runs around the map capping more dudes in one round than I've killed in the last 30 minutes.
