The Foley trilogy of books is worth reading (although the last one isn't very good).

I found it interesting to note the evolution of Mick's relationship with Vince during the three books.

So apparantly RAW Live is coming to Moncton in September. Only two matches confirmed so far...
    Spoiler:

Hmm...I've never been to a live wrestling event before. Shame they aren't doing a RAW taping here or in Halifax though. I would have loved to go to that.

Can we kill Triple H already.

It will never happen. In 30 years we will have Triple H nursing home angles.

    It's time to play...pant, pant, pant...The game!

Make him the manager of Raw or something if you want to keep him. But he can't wrestle anymore.

So I've just spent the last hour or so reading on Jim Cornette's "commentaries" on his website. There are only three of them, but each are lengthily pieces. I'll be straight with you guys: The old man's full of piss and vinegar but he's dead on (mostly) in all three of his writings. As I read them, I couldn't help but feel Cornette's anger for the current state of wrestling. His words are carefully chosen and great detail is taken to make his points as explicitly clear as possible. I can't help but wonder what the industry might be like if people like Jim Cornette were still in charge. It would be a different industry altogether.

    The "Write" Stuff

The Slippery Slope Of Hardcore Wrestling

    "Character" Actors

Man, I'd love to see him talk about this stuff in person. That'd be a hell of a promo.

Thanks for the links, Cornette said 100% of what I've been thinking these years.

The Character one is the one I disagree with the most. It's also ironic he writes all this stuff considering he's with TNA, but I dunno how much actual say he has with them.

And those matches spoilered for the Sept Raw? God, I hope they're just place holder, cause if not it's going to be a couple of boring months. Does anyone really give a shit about either possible feud?

Yeah, I saw them and was sort of meh about them. Kofi Kingston is another name they were promoting though which surprised me. I'll probably go just because I've never been to any live wrestling event before. At least tickets aren't ridiculously expensive.

God, Jim Cornette is just a crabby old man longing for the "good old days", isn't he?

He's worse than Star Wars Expanded univese fans, and I should know, because I am one, and I bitch and moan with the best of them.

I mean, he makes a fair few points, but he also makes wild generalizations and false dichotomies and sprinkles on a dash of outright lies, and of course blames Vince McMahon for everything that is wrong in modern professional wrestling.

Worst of all, most of his complaints are of genies that cannot be put back in bottles. Even if kayfabe should be restored, it can't. Even if writers should be replaced by old-school bookers, there's no way said writers. who after all are in positions of no small influence in the company, would allow it. Even if hardcore is shortening careers and ending lives (and I must admit I'm kind of on his side there), remove it and you could lose too many fans to be sustainable for any promotion that doesn't have the word "Entertainment" in the name.

In short, he's bitching about shit that not only is he not really working to change, as TNA is almost as guilty as WWE, he's bitching about shit that can't be changed. It's like insulting a thunderstorm. Ain't gonna do much.

I really think getting mad at guys for socializing with each other outside the show is stupid. Are these people supposed to just give up their friendships because one of them plays a bad guy on TV?

Wrestling isn't real and everyone knows it. Wrestling fans can still enjoy it because they are willing to just watch the show and accept the fictional world being shown to them, the same way a person watching Heroes or 24 knows what's happening in those shows isn't real, but can still allow themselves to be pulled in and attached to the characters and story. Guys like Cornette need to accept the fact that everyone's in on it already and things can't be the way they were.

As true as this is, I think his point about the wrestlers treating it as if it were real making it a better product is a good one. The characters on 24 don't know they are characters, thus there are believable. Wrestlers breaking kayfabe ruins the fantasy, even though we all know it's not real.

But they do stay in character...on the shows themselves. Any real life stuff that's brought in tends to just be transitioned into kayfabe, like the way Punk is bringing up Jeff's drug problems.

Or hell, even parts of ECW?

I really, really wish I could watch a damn show on WWE and believe in it again.
I was listening to an interview that Jason Powel did of Konan. And Konan said something that kind of resionated with me. "Wrestling is something that you watch and you hope it gets better. And then you watch eight weeks of shit". From a certain prospective, he's right. Smackdown has been fantastic recently but on the whole, it feels like there's still alot to be desired from our "sport".

The thing is, that even though we may hate it, we're a small minority, and by large most of wrestling fan's are happy with the product. It's always been this way.

We complain and groan about the same people hogging the main even, but for the large part the crowd still loves those guys. We may want hour long matches, but the crowd will chant boring eventually. Etc, etc.

    Man, the crowd LOVES Seth.

I think it's either because A)He looks like a Grant a Wish foundation kid getting his lifelong dream, or B) He's the perfect "geek " hero.

    or both, Kyougu.

He was just far too cute. I mean, I cant even. I spent the first five minutes of the show laughing.

And then realized, that Seth Green is taller than me.
