Ha! I was looking at the cover thinking; "Man, his style is really similar to cakes avatar"

I read the whole thing from cover to cover last night, I think it's the best, most concise thing on the figure I've ever read. It's like a hundred page book with all the fluffy art rubbish removed and condensed into 30 pages.
Though Tam would not approve of the typos and spelling mistakes found within.

so uh, I magically learned finally how to use that squiggly line thats suppose to represent the movement of the figure.

But the torsos are very sloppy, I need to rework that i'll be drawing alllllll night long

dont see anythign wrong this torso atm to be honest, i thought it was styled a little bit like Dysneys Hercules which is smooth lines connect it with curvier smoother lines.

Anyways, yes. My tablet is alive again. But I was curious how drawing a made up portrait goes on sketchbook. I'm pretty happy with the fact I only had to fix the noses position. Although the hair is uneven and I forgot to add half of the right eye. woops

    IMG_1179.jpg

oh and I tried adding some form to the gesture thingy like the tutorial was talking about (the one on the left has form I just kind of doodled after that)

coloring skin is HARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD I've spent like 2 hours on this drawing, its basically my reaction towards breaking my tablet (before it magically fixed itself somehow)

although I still need to do the back part of the hair... I'm going to play around with the skin once I finish eating this delicious chocolate cupcake

    oops

yay I've never colored with photoshop before

edit: ( I watched mully using some crazy brownish pink thing for skin before coloring it so i'm trying to do that)

zzzz after editing this a bajillion times I can also count this face as being expressed when I see the thousands of horrendous errors whenever I finally decide to post a stupid drawing here then look it over

needs more neck definition. really though you should try messing around with multiply and overlay brushes for the different shades and highlights on the face

  • LoomdunLoomdun Registered User
I will randomly click multiply and see what it does as soon as I start working on it again

edit: oh and heres the little 3 step process I use to making hair if anyones interested, blob, color, then line depending on what type of hair it is

edit: i'm sure i'll figure out the skin eventually

Hum, after playing around with this for another hour, the face began to take shape. But I realized the only reason why doing hair fast and doing the face took longer is because once again I dont 100% understand the shape. And therefore I spend more time correcting then I do actually making the drawing. So I suppose i'll just scrap this, and keep studying in my sketchbook/doodling in photoshop

Well today I found out something very interesting that will greatly help me learning in the future. I never really thought about it until I went back to looking at the nose/eye. What seems to happen is people who first start approaching it and singling out the eye/nose trying to get the shape down are already creating a symbolic shape. Mainly because the slope of what its being placed on isn't occuring. And what happens is when practiced alone then applied back to the face, you create a object thats 50% symbols and 50% actual shape.

After re-looking at the eye/nose/lips and reapplying it but thinking with the entire face, I then noticed that the sides of the nose and the edges of the eyes were made into symbols because of this.

anywho I don't know why I type so much but I suppose I feel its a bit helpful to jot down these thoughts on something I can read over.

    IMG_1189.jpg

The noses I circled where the first attempts, The edges where actually symbols. Then by applying shape (where the arrow points, I created a entire nose by mere shape rather then symbols that felt like shape

anyways after drawing that portrait I looked over the head portrait things finally and thought "what the hell why didn't I look at this sooner"

    IMG_1206.jpg

sooo I doodled a bunch of heads to get use to all the new information and heres something I did without mistake, i'm really happy where i'm coming along with everything. The eyes are finally proper sizeee and all that good stuff

Once you learn to structure the head like that, drawing faces becomes 200% easier.
