Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Also, re: Mike's list of games not to play on a train: darts.
Organizer of the Post-PAX Party. You should come!
Satellite Theater for life!
hmmm . . . think i'll bring my magnetic dart board
ps: does anyone have operation?
I swear to god I remember either myself or somebody else playing Catan last year.
Maybe.
If you bring this, I'd be all over it. I have Cities and Knights, but have never tried Seafarers. Are you planning on bringing it anyway? I'll try to pack my set if you don't, but I don't know what my luggage situation will be yet.
I think I'm at the point where I may pack a second bag just for board games. If that's the case, then one box for Catan won't be that much of a hardship. I'll load up my small rolling suitcase sometime this weekend to see what fits.
Oddly, I've never played cities&knights, and I'd love to get in on some of that... No worries though.
Seafarers adds ships, water tiles, and a pirate that functions like the robber, while splitting the map up into islands separated by water. There are a bunch of different scenarios, some of which have modified rules like a fog of war that reveals the contents of a tile only once it has been explored. Overall, it's the same game with more interesting map variants.
Cities and Knights changes a lot of the rules, adding a three new commodities, movable knights, more interesting development cards, the ability to purchase city upgrades, and yes, the barbarians that pillage your cities. In my experience, it's rare that the players will actually let that happen, as my group tends to play fairly defensively.
How long does a game of Seafarers usually take, SlickShughes? C&K is a great addition, but it does boost the playtime to something like 4-5 hours. Also, do you have any of the 5-6 player expansions? I only have the base games.
Don't worry about the ladies shirt, just get her a mens medium, she reckons they fit her better so it should be right.
It appears it is the fairer sex that may be crossdressing.
I'm very impressed with the organization and excitement you guys exhibit, and it has rubbed off on me in a big way--gross, I know.
As for the important stuff: I play videogames in every genre and enjoy German board games (Ticket to Ride, Lost Cities, etc).
See you guys when the #14 hits Sacramento!!!
Welcome! Another PAXTrainer is always good news. We've had a bit of a breakdown in the organization recently due to economic difficulties for some key members, so if you could look through the lists of nice things to bring and share with your fellow train riders, that would be handy. Anything from more snacks and power strips to an LCD or speakers would be appreciated (The TV especially, as I don't think we have one yet).
Just make sure you're wearing one of these.
Wow. I think I may be able to help with that, actually. I have a 26-inch LCD Bravia that I'm not really using right now. My question is, where would I store it during PAX? It would be quite the load, especially since I haven't yet solidified a floor to crash on the Thursday night we arrive in PAX-land.
Any suggestions?
P.s.... As for your secret Rebel FM reference: nice!
I'm 22/Male/Nice-Smelling/Non-Creeper, and a veteran of the Starlight SB->SEA run (I remember when there were only 3 or 4 outlets per car...fun times) Snacks and power cords are my main contribution - I know I have at least 2 power squids, and with a little help I could make a Costco Run and grab a metric ass-ton of snacky goodness for the ride up.
In terms of gaming, I have a few PS2 games and 1 controller, and one of those Pacman Plug-and-Play boxes (this: http://www.gameluv.com/media/users/cath52/0407-pacstick2.jpg) - 4 versions of Pacman should make for a fun few hours  Maybe I can find a DS before I go too...
That's about it - with any luck I'll see yous guys when I get on in Santa Barbara!
I might have a place for you to store the TV on Thursday night, I'll get back to you ASAP on that
Oh man...my roommate has one of those Safe, Soft, Fun Bowling Sets, I'll see if I can't get him to part with it...

George, Ben (big Ben), and some of the other faces you know and love from telling you to quiet down and hide your beer two years in a row won't be there this year. We have people to pick up the slack, but most of us aren't getting on until the bay area, so it's going to be a much more self-policing environment on the way up. Luckily, if the last two years are any indication, people haven't actually needed to be told to take it down a notch until after 10 PM or so when people are going to sleep. By then, most of us should be onboard.
On the conference call, we briefly discussed movie options. Movie nights have been huge hits previously, so no reason to break a good tradition. Right now we're looking at a ton of British movies, including Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and two movie-izations of Discworld books. Or, I'm also bringing as many rifftrax as I can fit on my mp3 player, which I can just plug into a 360 to play. The most popular rifftrax options among the staff call seem to be Tron and Red Dawn. But I have almost every one, if there's a particular one you want to see, mention it.
The room-share thread is probably your best bet. If nothing else, I'm sure someone in here could repay your TV-kindness with a room-share on thursday night.

Yeah, 10 smackers on delivery.. I'll do my best to grab a crap load of $10's for change purposes.
I'll also have all seasons of futurama plus the movies and south park on my laptop for killing time.
Specifically, the Pratchett stuff is Hogfather and The Colour of Magic.
