Because this was a problem last year and I suspect that Amtrak hasn't become any less anal about it; Amtrak doesn't allow you to drink alcohol that you did not purchase on the train. If you choose to do so please do it discretely. If keeping it out of sight is a problem for you I would suggest that you check out these links

these sites offer a variety of inconspicuous covers for your beer cans

    http://www.ezcom.com/hideabeer.htm

or if you would rather make a cover your self

That or just bring the same beer that Amtrak serves on the train ;-)

You may bring aboard your own private stock of alcoholic beverages subject to the following limitations:

    * You may consume private stock alcoholic beverages only in Sleeping Car accommodations for which you have a valid ticket.
    * You may not consume private stock alcoholic beverages in any public areas.

Obviously what TimeCruiserMike posted above goes without saying for things like beer. The other variety of beverage(aka hard stuff), just premix your drink of choice into a inconspicuous container before you board and you're set.

Hey, Tek, think you could put me down for a small shirt instead of a medium? I'll PM this to you too, just in case. Thanks a lot for putting the money down and all that.

I realize I'm totally last-minute and all, but is there a way I could get on the shirt list? I need an XL, and have no problem fumbling with quarters on a moving train...:P

I'll be going through and double checking counts here in a bit and plan on submitting the order today, or at the very latest Monday.

Also, Staff shirts are looking grim, as they would cost more.

I'm not a fan of the Light Steel color, and I think the white X might not be strongly visible. I'll buy a men's shirt if the base color is Sand or Smoke Grey. (I think the current design with the combination of black and white would stand out best on Sand, since it's a medium tone.) I believe I'd be men's size small, but a size chart would be handy.

    I didn't forgetcha Yamara..
