The Netflix Thread (even on PS3!) - Now playing: Ink
[STRIKE]is an online DVD and Blu-ray Disc rental service, offering flat rate rental-by-mail and online streaming to customers in the United States.[2] Established in 1997 and headquartered in Los Gatos, California, it has amassed a collection of 100,000 titles and approximately 10 million subscribers.[3] The company has more than 55 million discs and, on average, ships 1.9 million DVDs to customers each day.[3] Netflix previously claimed to spend about $300 million a year on postage. On February 25, 2007, Netflix announced the billionth DVD delivery.[4] It topped the ForeSee Results’ Top 100 Online Retail Satisfaction Index with an American Customer Satisfaction Index score of 86, well over the industry average of 75.[5][/STRIKE]
But we don't care about that. The purpose of this thread is to explore the excellent "Watch Instantly" feature that provides nearly a wide and varied away of television shows and movies for members to watch. There are often request for suggestions on what to watch so hopefully this thread will provide some insight into the confusing but pleasing bright red world of Netflix.Use this thread for discussion of the television and film offerings available. I will compile a top 10 (maybe a bit larger) list based on all of our opinions and include it in the OP so people won't have to search through a large thread.
There will also be a movie or series of the week sort of thing going on based on user input. Kind of like a book club with less reading.
The film follows the journey of eight year old Emma (Quinn Hunchar), who falls into a coma after she is kidnapped into a dreamworld by a mysterious monster, a drifter, called Ink. In the real world Emma is hospitalized by the coma, but in the dreamworld she is being used by Ink as a "pawn in a metaphysical war being fought between the forces of light and darkness.
So. Uh start throwing out suggestions. I'll edit them into the OP when there is a general consensus. Also go watch The edge if you've never seen it it's a fun little ride through the wilderness of Alaska.
They have an amazing amount of documentary/biography content as well for the Watch Instantly section.
I damn-near had a heart problem when I found that they've got a lot of History Channel/PBS stuff. Modern Marvels keeps me awake during slow days at work.

Can we talk about their bullshit upping of the Blu-Ray rates here?
Yeah that is bullshit. I'll probably go from 3 to 2 movies because of it
I assume this isn't about the $1 hike last October or so, is it?
They just announced they're making it $4 extra (instead of 1) for Blu-Ray
One could possibly see this as a subtle way to funnel viewers towards online viewing rather than the physical DVDS; though they really do need to find a way to get much newer and more popular content on Watch Now. My queue's TV series are dwindling.

You are receiving this email because you added unlimited Blu-ray access to your account for $1 a month. The number of Blu-ray titles has increased significantly and will continue to do so. As we buy more, you are able to choose from a rapidly expanding selection of Blu-ray titles. And as you've probably heard, Blu-ray discs are substantially more expensive than standard definition DVDs.
As a result, the monthly charge for Blu-ray access is increasing for most plans and will now vary by plan. The charge for monthly Blu-ray access on your 2 DVDs at-a-time (Unlimited) plan will increase from $1 a month to $3 a month. The price of your 2 DVDs at-a-time (Unlimited) plan is not changing and remains at $13.99 a month.
i don't mind $3 a month.... $1 was pretty fucking insane.

Blu-rays cost like double what DVDs cost. While the bulk of Netflix's costs seem to be postage and such, the actual cost of the discs to meet increasing BR demand has to be taking a bite out of their profits. I can't say it's unreasonable to pay less than 50% more for discs that cost nearly 100% more.
Though I may have to drop down to 2 because of this as well. *shrug*
I love Watch Instantly, though, and the expanding selection there will help ease the pain. I haven't watched one on there in a while, though...I think I've been planning on watching Man on Wire for like a month.
i don't understand how people have enough time to watch 3 movies in the 3-4 days it takes to get new movies....
With us it's more the shotgun approach...the wife isn't great about knowing what she'll want to watch in three days, so I usually try to make sure we have a couple different types of movies around so that something will sound good to her. Sometimes we'll keep one movie for a week or two while rotating the other two.
It's also good if you get something that sucks ass, because when you stop it thirty minutes in you've got two other options instead of just one.
EDIT: I, on the other hand, can usually get in the mood to watch whatever we have...I could easily do with just two out at a time.

No. They're now adding $1/disc on top of that. So if you have a 3 disc plan, you now have to pay $3/month extra for Blu-Ray access.
Which shouldn't surprise anyone, given that Blu-ray movies cost more for Netflix to buy. I don't see the problem here, except in the sense that people never like being forced to pay a more realistic cost for things that were once free/cheap (like the huge issue a lot of people took with many internet sites charging for things that used to be free back in 2000 or so, because the true cost was finally starting to eat at their bottom line)

Blu-ray movies typically cost about 30% more than the same content packaged on a plain old DVD, so it makes sense for Netflix to try covering its costs a little bit. A few subscribers may opt out of the new charges, but I suspect that most of 'em will stick around.
Sukiyaki Western Django is the first movie I watched using the Instant service
The director of that film is so crazy
But it's a wonderful movie-watching experience
Yes, Miike is definitely an insane person. Now try watching Audition, Ichi the Killer, Imprint, Happiness of the Katakuris, and some of his other stuff.
If that woman's cleavedge made one more person pick the game up off the shelf, it was a net positive for microprose. And to be blunt, if taking her top off could have increased sales enough to get a sequel, I'd endorse it 100000% because I like playing great games.

Everything from BBC is gone tomorrow. So you people have a few hours enjoyment at best for that stuff.
You sure? I'm not showing an expiration date in my instant queue on The Office. If so, that sucks, because I keep meaning to finish that.
I might be wrong. I know Doctor Who, Coupling, and Red Dwarf are coming down. I might have just had a few unlucky searches.
I only show Doctor Who Season One as expiring tomorrow. Guess I lucked out, since the only season I hadn't seen completely on TV was 3 onward, so I still have a chance to finish that.
Edit - Okay, WTF - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly expires tomorrow, and it just showed up for streaming like a week ago. Haha, April Fools, Netflix? (Yes, I know, I should own it already, but I can only find low-quality versions that still have the mono audio track.)

You know, I just realized I never saw The Edge. And it's got Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin, how can it possibly be bad. I know what I'm doing tomorrow night.

Sure. Feel free to discuss the place in general.
But i'd like movie discussions to be paramount.

Suggest away sir.

I've been meaning to watch it but I couldn't get beyond the opening. Does it get less. . .I don't know wankish?
The opening is the worst part of the movie because it heavily focuses on Quentin Tarentino
It gets way way better
Also no one should ever watch Ichi the Killer or Visitor Q
Absolutely no one

everyone watch American Movie so you can tell me the impression you got of the guy and we can maybe debate or at least discuss.
Funny. It's been in my instant queue for probably a month now and still hasn't been watched.
There are many others like it, but this one is mine.
The Ice Pirates
Actually a lot of the movies from that "Best Worst movies" thread are probably on there.
Damn, I can't finish House of Cards!?

If this is true I may cancel my membership in protest!

Also, that's really sad about the BBC shows. Why is that? I watched the majority of Red Dwarf on it, so it's a sad sad day.
Are you serious? Damn it I was trying to finish Doctor Who.
The guy was crazy obsessed. He was neglecting his kids to pay to make the movies, and he had no concept of how to get things done in a timely fashion.
