Did you know Nick Cage's role was originally written for Eddie Murphy
then Murphy bowed out and then Chris Tucker was attached
CHRIS TUCKER
you know, this wasn't really that bad of a movie. i love alex proyas, so i'm a bit biased. if you can get past the awful acting of nicholas cage and the kid. the ending was pretty interesting, and totally came out of left field
holy shit, a disaster movie that actually has the world end and doesnt have one dude like stop the disaster somehow

and really, aliens? recreating the story of eden?
Yeah it wasn't horrible. I went with a friend essentially to make fun of it, and it was very easy to do. There was cliche after cliche. But it looked very very nice, the special effects were excellent and Proyas is a great visual director.
as for the ending
I really wish they played up the religion thing more. Like the "aliens" had wings, which made them look like angels, but that wasn't enough for me. Was it god who saved the children or was it some benevolent aliens who previous generations had mistaken for god? They're both interesting ideas, but not explored enough I don't think.

to the ending:
i kinda like how they didn't give you a definitive answer. like if you saw it through religious eyes, it was more about faith and believing and pre-destination and the aliens as angels and all that jazz. on the other hand, it could all be explained by the aliens being super-advanced and sciencey and appearing before and being mistaken as angels. its an ending thats gonna be interpreted based on what you personally believe, i guess. idunno, i don't like to think too hard about a nicholas cage movie. it was just a neat idea
seriously, its sad when you hear nicholas cage is starrign in a movie and it immediately loses credibility. does he realize he can never ever be taken seriously as an actor ever? and i would do such naughty things to rose byrne

I think he just does films for fun, now. He doesn't really care, it seems.
yeah, but then you remember stuff like raising arizona and leaving las vegas. or even a bit more recent stuff like matchstick men and adaptation, and you're just like what the hell, you got some chops. its kinda like how robert deniro just don't give a fuck nowadays and will appear in pretty much anything.
