Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Tweenbots! (Not the kind that BusterK & fightinfilipino like)
Tweenbots are human-dependent robots that navigate the city with the help of pedestrians they encounter. Rolling at a constant speed, in a straight line, Tweenbots have a destination displayed on a flag, and rely on people they meet to read this flag and to aim them in the right direction to reach their goal.
Your fuckin' family's dug into the Southie projects like ticks. You, however, grew up on the North Shore, huh? Well, la-di-fuckin'-da. You were kind of a double kid, I bet, right? Huh? One kid with your old man, one kid with your mother. You're upper-middle class during the weeks, then you're droppin' your "R"s and you're hangin' in the big, bad Southie projects with your daddy on the weekends. I got that right?
Man, I would definitely help them on their way. I have this weird sympathy for stuff like that.
Kicking them would be like kicking a puppy, you just don't do that.
Agreed.
I'd even feel awkward leaving it before it reached it's destination. I'd probably spend all day wondering if it needed my help again and feel like a jerk.
also, the Tweenbots project is a neat idea, but i can't help but wonder how these things didn't get flagged as possible IEDs, either...
because this is new york, not baghdad.
also this park is right between NYU and lower east side and as such lots of fun things happen there all the time. tiny robots aren't really that out of the ordinary.

Also New Yorkers aren't idiots
Like Bostonians
bostonians would establish a moving perimeter around the robot. when it happily reaches its destination, they'll open fire.

You're a terrible person who should feel terrible.

Just left standing, watching as this poor little thing determinedly rolls off into the distance with no idea where it's going.

The other robots
The one with 'Please call my family'
That's just freaky, especially if there's a motor to move the head.
I don't mind helping no lost robot get from A to B, but I'm not falling for that whole 'Help me find my family' trick again...

Well, have they put any out in Boston....
Seriously, though, unmanned unmonitored robots are something of a social security risk.
On top of that, I just see these things getting stolen.

not only would we have helped that robot on its way, we would have taken it to a pub and bought it a beer
Then I would comeback to see if it needed more help.
