So it took me hours to read through this thread, but I was highly amused. I'm usually a Graphic Violence lurker, but I'm a slave to Squeenix and JRPG's in general, so I needed to post. Legend of Dragoon is an awesome game. Probably the best SCE rpg on the PS1. And whoever said Final Fantasy VII looked better than Dragoon is out of their mind. It was also another one of those games where
a main party member died
, but the battle system picked up once you got full access to your dragoon powers. Albert was my favourite for some odd reason. Fucking Gust of Wind Dance. Funny glitched happened to me during the last boss battle on my first playthru; Dart become invincible after Kongol and Albert were Ko'd.
For reference of my PS1 RPG collection, I still own physical copies (and game saves) of:
Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, Tactics and the 2 remake games; Legend of Dragoon, Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, Valkyire Profile, Star Ocean: 2nd Story, Vandal Hearts 2, Suikoden, Grandia, Chrono Cross, Breath of Fire III & IV, Xenogears, Wild Arms 1 & 2, Threads of Fate, Grandia 1 & 2, AND Legend of Legaia.

I'm just kidding, Metal Gear Solid is obviously the best game ever, but I just wanted to talk about Vagrant Story. I mean, maybe if we talk about it enough, we'll get a sequel.
Still, the story line was awful and super-cliche, you see every big "twist" coming, the characters are all completely forgettable, the combat was slow and the interactivity aspect of it was something that Super Mario RPG had done much better five years prior, the game looked horrid even beyond release (and debating whether or not it looked better than a game that came out three years prior only helps solidify this point), the soundtrack was nothing special...it was just condensed mediocrity.
really the whole point seemed to be that we had no idea about programming and balance issues so everything was ridiculous and every accident a treasure
Beyond the Beyond is about equal to what the average 13 year old makes with RPG Maker
I'm lucky in that I only rented it once, not long after I got my PS1. I wanted to see if other RPG games were as good as FF7. Luckily for me, Persona 1 and Wild Arms took away the bad taste BtB left in my mouth. I dunno about you guys, but back then, seeing RPGs with guns and grenade launchers was the coolest thing I've ever seen.

The "secret intro" to Beyond the Beyond was some true CGI magic. Still ranks as one of the greatest game intros of all time. I really wish I could find it on youtube or something.
ugh, beyond the beyond was just awful. so mediocre.
also, the best intro is from wild arms dangit
yes, yes... I was being sarcastic. The "secret intro" to BTB was utterly terrible, so terrible the devs decided you had to enter a code just to view it. But I still wish I could find the video online somewhere.
well, i wasn't talking about the intro so much as the whole goshdarn game. but yeah, i have vague memories about that intro, and yeah, its still the same poopyness as the actual game.
if you're gonna make a secret intro, at least throw some boobies or something into it, like rings of power for the genesis. naughty dog indeed
Man, I made the best games in RPG maker. Most of them featured my friends in humiliating situations. I even recorded "music" for them where I would just make random noises with my mouth and apply weird effects.

Best game on the PS1 or best game ever?
Right, guys?
Is Vagrant story worth it?
There's a double entendre somewhere in there.
What's wrong with you people
I....I actually bought this
FFVII was my second RPG, the first being Dragon Warrior on the NES which I never really invested time into
I was completely hooked to RPGs at that point, desperate to find my next high
I was willing to play anything

The FMVs were nice though, I suppose.
I forgot about that one.
I made a small room with a little pond in it. I think I somehow walked out of the room into blackness and got stuck though.

THIS is unquestionably the best intro ever in a video game

if you disagree you are wrong. that is all.
He just shot the cue ball and it hit all the other balls, IN MID AIR, and killed a demon.
Best game ever
This is the best intro.
they should have just stuck with the original, it was basically perfect anyway
the PSP version and the 360 version were bogus, though.
