Barcelona to Madrid and back

So, I'm currently in Barcelona, and need to get to Madrid on Tuesday, and return on Wednesday.

As of right now the only way I've found of pulling this off is a train that costs 100+ euros.

Anybody got any tips for the frugal Spain traveller? Train lines I should look into, buses, cheap airlines even?

Hitch-hiking is really easy in mainland Europe.

There surely has to be cheap bus lines running between the two cities. I took a regional bus from Segovia to Madrid for about 8 Euro, and the trip was about 100km. According to the google it should cost you about 25 Euro to do your trip, if you can get a ticket

Hmm, hitching is a little too risky for me. Both because of... well, the safety risk, but also a tight schedule.

Bus lines around those prices is exactly what I'd like to find, but I really have no idea where to start looking. Google has not been particularly helpful. I'll probably try to find some tourism information agencies or something tomorrow morning.

    Thanks!

All I did last time was go to the main bus station and buy my ticket on the spot. This was in low season though

    Try Vueling:

A really cheap airline (think JetBlue). Even cheaper than trains.

Cool, thanks guys. I think I'll be going with the bus since it's cheaper... I found out where the bus station is today. Hopefully I can get a ticket without much trouble.
